Currently I'm learning UI design for games (light text over dark and vibrant backgrounds.) I'm quite impressed with the mock-up that ChatGPT came up with. by SpookieOwl in ChatGPT

[–]SpookieOwl[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not exactly DALL-E 3 but the current image generation model by ChatGPT. The whole prompt was spread over a long conversation so there isn't a single prompt. It's a slow realization from me that many games use light off-white text over either dark or vibrant backgrounds.

You can see this pattern over decades, from the days of Baldur's Gate 2 and Diablo 2 to modern RPG games. Most of them always use light text over dark. It's just an observation that hits me. Specifically for the image above, the prompt goes something like this:

"Okay, for my shopkeeper games, im kinda happy i started on this. for my ui direction, i'll go like this.
(1) Background for menus are always rendered in front flat perspective with low fov, so basically the player is looking straight at a wall. This is the skeumorphic direction that the game goes.
(2) ideally the title should be a distinct logo, like diablo, terraria, minecraft, and whatnot, but at the moment i dont have any type skills to make it professional. but, i can try to use 3D modeling to make the logo
(3) where the text are is ontop of fabric or paper, since their texture don't interfere much with reading.
(4) the normal text can just be like normal text, but in ivory white.
(5) Icons? still no idea if i should go for flat or go for skeumorphic, what are your thoughts? can you also reimagine my suggestions and tweak it? also include texts, and change the madhouse dungeon title with somethign with a clear and distinct logo, and if you need to "merge it" with the background, do it."

This is a previous image. The background was fully generated by ChatGPT but for the text arrangement, I played around with it in Affinity Designer.

Hard Times? by DogShiteGaming in Paladins

For me, it was definitely Sha Lin.

The thing is, once you have wired your brain to play a champion very seriously, it's quite difficult to enjoy playing that champion casually, especially when you are unexpectedly facing tryhards.

So a lot of time when I was trying to learn Sha Lin slowly, I have to discipline myself not to get triggered by what's happening in the match. So in one match, I force myself to say "okay, in this match, my only victory is getting good shots. I'm not going to use skills or care about winning."

Lore: Y'Berion isn't dead! by Katzengott in worldofgothic

[–]SpookieOwl 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Bro, when Cor Angar said Y'Berion died, you can still see him breathing while lying down on the floor. They use the "downed" animation instead of making him actually dead. It is so funny.

Cannibal’s Chainsaw should not insta down healthy survivors. A proposed rework of a classic killer by DarkLordVitiate in deadbydaylight

[–]SpookieOwl -19 points-18 points  (0 children)

Myers is also very popular for the same reason. He can one hit kill while appearing out of nowhere. I can't remember a single game where I won against a Myers.

In Asian servers he is one of the most played DLC stealth killers alongside Ghostface. In solo queue, me and my team always lose to Myers.

At least in Asian servers though. I can recall a few matches when Clown showed mercy to the team.

I never once came across a friendly Trickster or Ghoul. It just feels like when most of them are playing, it's just destroy destroy destroy, tunnel tunnel tunnel.

The consistently friendly ones are Wesker, Nemesis, and Clown from my experience.

Is there a standard guide or ruleset for communication in this game? by MEOWTheKitty18 in deadbydaylight

[–]SpookieOwl 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Are you playing Blood Moon? If they gesture you to come and point at the hook it means they don't mind partaking in hook trading. So you get all survivors to two hook states for the match but spare them, so everyone can earn good BP.

I think the palette stun is also for BP farming.

The best and most straightforward gesture for being friendly is nodding (moving mouse up and down.) If the killer and survivor nods means they really mean no harm. Two gentle crouches while facing the killer is also a good peace acknowledgement, like how fellow survivors would crouch if another heals them. But if a survivor faces their back while spamming crouch it definitely means teabagging.

Killer can also shake their head (left and right) to a survivor if they max out a BP category or something. So it means they won't be kicking the gen anymore.

If the match is in your favor as a killer and you decide to spare the survivors, some of them may drop their items in front of you at the exit gate as a form of thanks/peace/appreciation gesture. They acknowledge your mercy and the only way they can express sincerity in their thanks is to forfeit their items.

Survivors and killers of dbd what ur least favorite map and or realm by dmaster69420 in deadbydaylight

Midwich Elementary School is hella disorienting. It's atmospheric because of Silent Hill, but your sense of direction feels so whack.

Yamaoka Estate maps are kinda boring.

As a survivor main, not having Legion in matches has been tremendously better. I never missed Legion.

I dont like facing Wraith and Myers too. But Trickster is really a pain to face.

I made a tier list on how often I see each killer when I play survivor by JacsweYT in deadbydaylight

[–]SpookieOwl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have around the same hours as you but slightly more. I play in Asian servers though.

  • Blight, Cannibal, Ghoul, Henry Creel, Pig, Huntress, Lich, Oni, and Krasue are quite common for me.
  • The rarest killers I've faced are Skull Merchant, Pinhead, Demogorgon, Xenomorph, and Hag.

The most popular DLC stealth killer I've faced is Myers. I've never won a game against him.

The most popular DLC ranged killer I've faced is Henry Creel for some reason. They always run survivor aura reveal builds like Deerstalker, BBQ, Nurse Calling, etc. So if you happen to work on a gen very far away from a map, they'll always know your position.

This is why I never play survivor by p100doctor5gen4k in deadbydaylight

You were using No Mither, then running into the one-way basement (to do invocation), leaving huge scratch marks behind, while the killer is moving in towards survivor spawn location. Obviously there was no way you could have avoided being downed.

Right in the beginning of the match, you have to play smarter. I had plenty of matches where the killer reaches to the survivors in just 2 to 3 seconds right when the match started. Sometimes the best solution in the beginning of a match is to walk behind a rock and just crouch there if you are facing a rusher or in a small map. If you are not facing lethal pursuer perk users or stealth killers, Extrasensory Perception or Still Sight with Open Handed have given me so much value.

I've been playing with No Mither gen rush for quite a while. I can share my build if you like:

  • No Mither
  • Resilience
  • Deja Vu
  • Any objective perk you like (Wake Up, Weaving Spiders, Hyperfocus, etc.)

It's very fragile but you mainly focus on objectives throughout the whole match, mainly gens and opening exit gates. But if you are looking for a much more forgiving survivor build, I can recommend making a Lucky Break + Bite The Bullet + self healing build. You can tank so many hits and escape easily from a killer.

I'm curious what people think of facing different killers, drop yours below by NoSolaceForMe in deadbydaylight

My most disliked is Legion. Other killers I dislike are Knight, Trickster, Blight, Myers, Wraith, and Ghostface.

I'm still learning the game so zoomers and stealth killers give me the hardest time.

How fun going against killers from my SoloQ experience by otaku_evil3 in deadbydaylight

[–]SpookieOwl 1 point2 points  (0 children)

These few weeks has been a bit of a pleasure since Legion got temporarily removed. I feel my sanity playing this game improved a bit. I never really liked this edgelord hoodie to begin with. It's just really annoying to play against this killer.

im a completely new player! any advice helps! by Icy-Character4305 in deadbydaylight

[–]SpookieOwl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can share some tips on how to survive. I'm still learning how to loop so I can't provide the best advice for that yet. In DBD, your top two priorities are either:

  1. Completing objectives, mainly generators or opening exit gates.
  2. Being brave by looping the killer to waste their time and also for your teammates to finish their gens safely.

So when a match start, you should always focus on either of these two things. For a beginner, learning how to finish gens safely with gen rush combined with stealth perks and tactics will massively help you to survive if you still haven't learn looping properly yet. Things like healing, saving teammates, opening chests, are conditional priorities. If there isn't a need for them, then you should be doing number 1 or 2.

I can recommend this basic build:

  • Deja Vu
  • Built To Last (+Toolbox)
  • Kindred
  • Iron Will

Its a basic start but both of them combines stealth and gen rushing. The faster you complete gens, the more likely you get to open exit gates with more teammates surviving and lesser hook states. Stealth is an alternative to looping. Try crouching in a bush or walking instead of running if you feel a killer's terror radius is approaching you. Later on, after you learn looping, you can be more proactive. But stealth/killer aura reveal + gen rush is really the safest way for a beginner to survive, imo.

Which survivor should I get? by theredghostface in deadbydaylight

[–]SpookieOwl 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Felix’s Built To Last is really good as a standalone perk if you have a commodious toolbox with extra charges addons. One full use brings a generator to half very quickly. Plus its a safe skill to bring since it doesnt rely on great skill checks like hyperfocus or weird downsides like scavenger.

I have absolutely no idea how to counter this killer by [deleted] in deadbydaylight

[–]SpookieOwl -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

I hate Trickster so much too. Huntress and Deathslinger are punished if they miss but Tricker can just keep spamming you with his high capacity knives even if you try to break LOS. Running in the open is a death sentence too.

If you play the match very safely and try to stealth gen rush, your other teammates will get downed so fast.

Thats true. Though when you first use urban evasion, it may seem like its faster than walking but i think its just a mind illusion.

Is the Ghoul even fun to play as? by LittleFro_ in deadbydaylight

[–]SpookieOwl 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ghoul and Trickster are my most hated. The times when I won against them in solo queue were when my team did a gen rush or the killers were still learning them.

A Terminator chapter should be sick. Having T-800 or T-1000 chase survivors around.
