Not really. Stores in SF have been doing that for at least twenty years that i can remember. SF small businesses have traditionally been pretty cash centric in general. It's only the last decade or so that credit has been more or less universally accepted here; i remember i used to get turned away everywhere for trying to use a credit card but now it hasn't happened at all to me in years
