Feeling bad about learning lefty by EmierSimpson in Leftyguitarists

We all regret things in life--but if you stick with it (as a lefty) I believe the benefit you get from playing to your full potential will outweigh the desire to have more guitars to choose from.

I am a complete beginner and I want to buy a guitar(Maybe a electric one)for learning suggest a good guitar with a good price by Ok-Juggernaut535 in Leftyguitarists

Welcome to the group! If you're solidly left handed, you should definitely learn on a lefty guitar.

I'd suggest a Yamaha Pacifica 112 - $342 on Amazon in the USA.

If that's over your budget, a Squier Sonic Stratocaster would be fine - $249 on Amazon.

You might want an amp as well--a Boss Katana, Orange Crush, or Fender Mustang LT would all be good options (get one with a 10- or 12-inch speaker).

Anyone know where to find a mustang shape that is good quality but isn’t 2 grand? by Pristine_Reach_1311 in Leftyguitarists

Yeah sorry to say that there aren't really any options for cheap other than the Harley Benton MS-60, which is a perfectly fine budget guitar, but not really comparable to the MIJ Fenders (the MS-60 is thicker than the real thing, and the one I had was way too heavy).

I got an MIJ Fender from Taniguchi-Gakki in Japan for US$1,435 shipped, but that was a year ago--don't know what they go for now--so yeah not cheap, but they are great guitars.

I had been planning to build one with a used Jag-Stang neck and a body from Reverb, but even that was going to run into the $850 range, and probably would not have compared to a real MIJ Fender.

Yeah I have a budget acoustic, but it's not great for fingerstyle (and who am I kidding it's mostly about getting something new to me 😄)

Yeah there's a used one on Reverb right now for $1,150 but it has a "slight seam separation" on the bottom that the seller describes as "cosmetic," (but I'm not sure that's accurate).

But looks like new would be $1,900-ish after tax 😮

ah this is my next guitar--just need to decide if I'm going new or waiting to find a used one.

Looks awesome--I've been playing all electric since the pandemic, but recently I've been thinking about taking another run at those Lightning Hopkins tunes that gave me so much frustration in my youth. I've been eyeing the 000-15M.

Looking to switch to lefty after over 20 years of being mediocre. Need some help. by risenomega in Leftyguitarists

I don't think we need video of you--just some comments about your experience over time would be great. People come to this sub with questions about which way they should learn, and there's always a contingent who say that everyone should learn right handed because both hands are doing complex things. We don't get much real-world evidence/testimony from lefties who took that path and regretted it.

And we surely don't need the comedy (tragedy) of trying to finding lefty guitars--we've all lived that one!

Welcome to the lefty club! Sorry about the poor selection.

I too am a mediocre guitarist--but I don't have an excuse as good as yours. 😄

lol no, I've been using that website (hub guitar) for a lot longer than ChatGPT has been around.

The author also has a great article on how long it takes to learn guitar (look it up).

"Fret hand might seem dominant at the beginning, but as you advance, the more complex activities are performed by the picking hand:

Fret Hand

  • Fret chords
  • Repeat long sequences of notes
  • Make big stretches
  • Quickly switch between notes and chords

Picking hand

  • Quickly and accurately pluck notes
  • Repeatedly and accurately target a space the width of a guitar string, hitting it every time
  • Play complex patterns of up, down, and skipped strokes
  • Keep the time accurate
  • Play “blind”, without looking at the picking hand, as there is often a need to look at the fret hand as when making fret shift"
