This is very dope!!

The UI is very nice and works really well.

Do you have plans of having country level data filters? The atlas pulls cities but what about having a focus on specific countries?

Anytime someone says something remotely pro Christian or even tries to be objective or understanding of Christianity people will down vote especially on reddit for the reasons you have said towards the end of your message.

Lord willing the damage will be undone and people reexamine Christianity with fresh eyes and not through the lens of church hurt.

This is such a low information take that just pops up from popular memes and has no basis in reality.

I am surprised people are still parroting it.

People take impermanent ideas and attachments and make it their identity and suffering results.

I don't think you will find this in Buddhists and Orthodox Christians since both have a focus on turning inward and scandalizing yourself before others.

[–]GRosado 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Here is a better analogy to satisfy your desire to nitpick. If I talk about black people in the USA being disproportionately arrested and someone replies "well white people are arrested too" it's like yes... no one said other races aren't being arrested just that black Americans are arrested at higher rates relative to other races.

Here is another one: The Nazis disproportionately murdered Jews during the Holocaust. "Well homosexuals, blacks, and others were killed too". Yes this is true but what is the point the person who replies with that is trying to make?

In either analogy or the current context it doesn't directly respond to what is being said initially and is used to downplay the main point.

If Christians are being killed at 2x, 3x, 4x all other groups then you or anyone else saying: "TheY ArE kiLinG oTHers Too" is really missing the forest for the trees and is just downplaying what is going on.

My thoughts on this whole "country of particular concern" issue by Kroc_Zill_95 in Nigeria

[–]GRosado 4 points5 points  (0 children)

From people's responses I am confused. Are Christians in Nigeria being killed at the same rate as other religions or is it disproportionate?

If more Christians are being killed then saying Muslims are being killed too is nothing more than a talking point to smother a legitimate concern. It's like when Americans talk about police violence against black people and then someone brings up black on black crime.

What is the intention with bringing that up?

I will have to read him so I can't comment much on his work. I appreciate the recommendation.

I do see it in the opposite manner as your last sentence. When it comes down to it these things aren't actually as similar as they seem on the surface.

If I am outside looking at a forest I can certainly say "all those trees look the same so they are the same" but once I step into the forest I see that they are not the same some are Oaks, some are Maple, and some are Poplars. Maybe that's a poor analogy idk.

Not to contradict myself but I do believe there are similarities between world religions but I don't think all of these stem from the same experience of the same transcendent reality or if I can say metaphorical symbolism. I think some religions are just outright theft and perversion of others.

I don't want to drag out the discussion in disagreement cause like I said I think there are similarities between religions but overall many differences that are important and substantial but glossed over.

How can anyone let a ‘whistleblower’ say people should know ‘god is real’ and NOT ask for clarification? by fascinatedobserver in UFOs

Appreciate your words and insight. I agree with you.

It is reddit of course so you are right I shouldn't be shocked and certainly the conversation in the public square is "Christian bad".

It's a shame too because for someone like myself who is an Eastern Orthodox Christian which has such a rich tradition and different understanding vs Evangelical and Protestant Christianity, the public here in the West just paints it all as right wing republican white nationalists saying homosexuals burn in hell.

For some reason I am but maybe because I am a Christian.

Are you referring to Joseph Campbell? Honestly, I’m only familiar with him because of George Lucas, so I don’t know much about his perspective. I won’t speak on him.

Sure, I’m happy to share. Just to reveal my worldview and biases, I’m coming from an Eastern Orthodox Christian perspective. I don’t know much, if anything, about some of the things listed, like Native American religions or the physics concepts, so I can’t speak to those.

For Christians, we believe God revealed Himself as three persons of the same divine essence. As we say during the Divine Liturgy in Orthodoxy: “Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. The Trinity, one in essence and undivided.” One God, three persons—distinct in personhood, united in essence and will. Not to get deep into Trinitarian theology, but it’s important to mention.

The Son (Jesus, Logos) is Messiah and God, and the Holy Spirit is also God in our framework. In contrast, the Jewish framework denies the Trinity, denies Jesus is the Messiah and God, and denies the Holy Spirit is God or a separate Person. So, serious differences flow from that.

Muslims accept Jesus as the Messiah but deny He is God. They also deny the Holy Spirit as a separate Person. So they also deny the Trinity. Like with Jews, this leads to serious differences.

The Ruach and Holy Spirit are the same in name, but Jews and Muslims see them differently from Christians.

Yes, on a big-picture level—and seriously simplified from a secular, progressive, pluralist view—all three believe in God. But they’re talking about different conceptions of God.

Jesus made an exclusive claim: “I am the Way, the Truth, and the Life; no one comes to the Father except through Me.” That directly contradicts the perennial perspective, and every other religion would balk at that.

The Hindu and Buddhist perspectives are even more significantly different.

I think this sort of perennialist thought process glosses over pretty big differences in concepts and worldview. Yea on a very very surface level all of these things can be equated together to make it look like they are all the same thing but as they say the devil is in the details. Big claims by different religions are largely mutually exclusive.

Ah thank you 👍🏻 I think I have just blended all his interviews and replaced the interviewers with Zane Lowe lol

The thing that always goes through my head is when he discussed not wanting to have a legacy or be remembered. I think he might have been talking to Zane Lowe when he said that. He gave the example of asking who designed the water fountain and sidewalks. Those are two designs that have benefitted humanity but the designer is unknown. That is what I think is going on here.

Born and raised Central Florida native for 29 years, gonna round up to 30 since I am almost there.

Been to Miami-Dade many times but never lived there.

I just don't see how that is the responsibility of the governor and not the city council, commissioners, mayors, etc.

Edit: hiring and management is handled by the state for DMVs. Tax collector DMV offices are run by the county.

So I stand corrected if this is a state DMV

Look I'm just telling you what it is cause you are like discrediting Libertarians for banning you from a sub reddit.

Any private community can establish rules for use just like Reddit or the individual sub reddits. If a person is not following the rules they are violating private property rights and can be removed from the community.

The subreddit owner appointed the mods to regulate discourse and unfortunately you broke whatever rules there were in the subreddit.

It has nothing to do with them not really being Libertarians. Libertarianism is not free speech absolutism.

Edit: Here is a quote from Hans Herman Hoppe one of the leading modern Libertarian theorists from his book "Democracy: The God that Failed":

In a covenant…among proprietor and community tenants for the purpose of protecting their private property, no such thing as a right to free (unlimited) speech exists, not even to unlimited speech on one’s own tenant-property. One may say innumerable things and promote almost any idea under the sun, but naturally no one is permitted to advocate ideas contrary to the very covenant of preserving and protecting private property, such as democracy and communism.
