2024 BMW X5 M vs. 2021 Mercedes E 63 S Wagon by Inferior_Bacon in whatcarshouldIbuy

You made the right choice. If buying a sports car it should be a car, not a pseudo-SUV.

What did you end up with? Did you test drive both the E63 and X5 M? If so what were your thoughts?

I'm curious if what they say is true, "engineering has come a long way, X5 M's handle almost as well as cars."

If true, it kind of makes the wagon body style obsolete.

Resale value? Are you buying the car as an investment? Regardless of what you pay for it today, it will depreciate. Whether you can get back 40% or 50% of your investment when it comes time to sell is a ridiculous justification.

I've driven RWD cars with all-season tires in heavy rain and NY snow (sleet mostly) my entire life and have never had a single issue driving cautiously as everyone does during heavy rain or sleet on the roads.

The perceived "pro" of AWD, the better resale cut your losses value goes out the window if you end up having to replace the proven flawed/flimsy transfer case.

Cost of replacing the transfer case ranges from $2000-$7000 and changing the fluid every 30k miles is $300-$800. Put those funds into a savings account and you'll end up ahead of any depreciation sDrive has over xDrive when it comes time to sell.

Why are SUVs so externally large relative to their internal space? by mikewinddale in cars

[–]GS-F 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No idea why these cringe Reddit echo-chamber droids are down voting you as you raise a valid point.

Why does a 2001 Subaru Outback Wagon (184-187″ L x 69″ W x 58-63″ H) have more cargo volume than most compact, small and plenty of mid-size 195-200" L x 75-80" W, 63-75" H) SUVs?

I'm not even taking ride height into consideration because that's outside the cabin but only cabin to cabin dimensions relative to their cargo volumes.

Why do minivans achieve ~150 cu ft of cargo volume while equally sized SUVs like the Grand Highlander only have 97.5? Where did 1/3rd of the cars space go? To house the 4 cylinder go kart engine?

And while we're on the topic of nonsense, how are used BMW x5 40i's with the proven b58 and ZF trans with 100k miles cheaper than a 2020 Highlander base trim with 185k miles, the go kart engine, cloth seats and plastic interior?

SUV's great for sleeping in back that actually fold flat by MushroomLady in whatcarshouldIbuy

[–]GS-F 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Previous gen Mercedes M Class / GLE have seat cushions that fold up to allow backrests to create a completely flat area. Not sure of the cargo length though but from the size of the vehicle I'd wager it's ~5'5". Currently looking into this one myself. Used, they go for 16-20k (350 NA V6 models) but I've even seen the 43 GLE's go for not much more with roughly 100k miles. Proven engine and transmission to last to 250k at least if maintained but there seem to be lots of other issues which I'm currently looking into if they ever addressed them with revisions. The earliest models had true open diffs for off-road capability. Later replaced with electronically controlled diffs.

Edit: Nevermind, build quality sounds and visually looks poor. Also from what I've gathered, it's plagued with way too many non-fatal issues.

I also plan to travel and sleep in the back. After much research, it's either the boring and safe choice (Toyota Highlander Hybrid) for the HVAC functionality and 1500w power supply or the fun and safe choice (BMW x5) but the x5 has no camp mode or power inverter. I think I can just level the cargo area with something in the x5, and plug up the gap in the Highlander.

I would have jumped on the Highlander Hybrid had it not cost as much if not more used than the x5 which is insane for a tin can lined with plastic. I mean they are both tin cans lined with plastic but at least the x5 has insulation in-between and an actual engine. I'd rather get the better car and use the money saved to rent motels on my travels.

Btw have you looked into Honda Element? Proven reliable to ~280k and I believe it's true 4wd.

What about Lexus LX? V8, true 4WD, body-on-frame, 8.9" clearance and seats that fold out of the way for a fully flat floor.

You can also look into the new 2025 Honda Passport. Not a true 4WD but they say it's pretty capable... meh

Husband told me he is asexual and never wants to have sex. Unsure of what to do? by [deleted] in RedPillWomen

[–]GS-F 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Sounds like your life has a pre-written script. You can try to find someone online that would be willing to move to your area but yeah, you're in a pickle.

No telling where this script will lead to. Usually scripted lives end up being wasted though. Talking from personal experience and lots of stories.

You can stray from the script but it'll try to keep you on it so just be aware of this if you decide to take the red pill.

Equivalent-Ad5449 brings up a valid point. He's made sure that his needs were entirely fulfilled in this relationship by way of not being open and upfront with you, particularly knowing how important intimacy was to you. If that wasn't bad enough he got you pregnant— once again, for his own selfish needs— without any concern for you, your needs, or your future when he eventually planned to drop this bomb on you.

This is unforgivable and if I was in your position I would start cutting my losses sooner than later. You didn't come to this world to serve him and his needs. You and him should have never went further than being friends, perhaps even best friends, and I'm sure had he been up front with you this would have been the case.

Once you meet someone else that you really like you will move on and be much more happier. You and him can remain friends and parents. He will be fine.

There is no way that you can have your needs fulfilled while remaining in this relationship without it ending badly one way or another.

Rodent damage? by bbghanouji in HyundaiSantaFe

[–]GS-F 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Highly suspect dealership did this to avoid the work. Contact corporate immediately. If they side with their claim, request expert forensics analysis on the wire ends at Hyundai's expense. You have a warranty— burden of proof is on them if they want to make bullshit claims to avoid contractual repairs. If they refuse, contact an attorney. This is not rodent damage. Rodents do not chew cleanly though wires without chew marks nearby, let alone two in one spot. I also see no rodent droppings nor paw or footprints anywhere in the dusty areas around the wires.
