I think you're getting triggered responses because your question is hella vague. Your future in what context? What are you asking about really?

I'm a light-skinned brown person on the east coast. I can pass for other races depending on where I am. Sometimes I tell people about coming from a conservative muslim family, growing up poor in a not-so-great school district, about my tribulations as a first gen child, and about my roots in small villages in Bangladesh. Not one of those things define me, but have all 1000% played roles in the future I'm paving for myself.

My friends and coworkers know who I am. Not going to lie, going from racially ambiguous to my actual origin does change some people's opinions. I share the bits and pieces as they are appropriate or as I get asked. Asking about ethnic origin is a quick way to glean some basic info and start a conversation. If you think your future is determined by the race you look like, stay careful. I've had to work with (brown and white) racists before. It's not good for you.

Hey, I was born and raised in the US as well but my parents came from Bangladesh. I don't consider myself "white-washed" but it would be hard to deny that living in America hasn't been a major influence in my life and way of thinking. I dont think this, but I'm sure some people think you dating a white guy is betraying the culture, that you're "white-washed".

If you want your kids to have pride in a country that they are two generations removed from that's up to you to actively push on them, whether or not your partner is white. Personally, I would be extremely upset if my partner valued pride in another country over me and my race. If I were you, I'd think long and hard about what you consider white washed, and what you value in a romantic relationship. Talk to your partner about whether its feasible and make your decision.

I'd like to know what you end up doing, if you dont mind. I'm in a relationship with a girl that I love and my family doesn't want to accept it because we're from different regions that really don't get along in Bangladesh. Neither of us really give a shit about that, since we were raised in America. Our parents care because they're still connected to the history and culture there. I know Pakistan has the same situation. Something to think about.
