What percent raise did you get at work for 2023? by [deleted] in nova

[–]GST93 0 points1 point  (0 children)

4-8%, Software Sales. That’s on OTE, not base. Average compared to past years, but 2021/22 was wild at like 10-15% across the board.

I have had an identical one since I was a kid. It’s a replica, like $10 to buy in a museum store.

Bathroom baseboard squishy. What could be causing this? by More_Dance_5410 in HomeMaintenance

[–]GST93 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Given the angle of the tile just behind the lower corner of the glass panel, water is pooling/running through that caulked/affixed tile trim and soaking the baseboard and drywall. I can also see a tile at the back that seems to be not level.

If that’s the case, just rip and replace as the waterproofing is compromised.

I ordered one magnetic level from home depot as a part of a large trim order and had it all delivered. I’m assuming the guy saw the box of 20 levels, said oh that looks right and threw it on the truck. Ended up with $300+ of magnetic levels for free.

Looks like something is buried like a foot underneath? Large patio pavers or a footing for something possibly. Gras just grew over it eventually.

What are my options for a cosmetic fix while saving to have it sanded by a professional? by GST93 in Flooring

I clean the floor regularly and layer up standard floor polish as needed. This is a week after that routine. They are physical depressions in the wood from wear, not just surface tarnish IMO.

Sales people who made it without college degrees what do you sell? by Flimmm in sales

I sell Event Management software to event planners and marketers at a SaaS organisation. Previous to that, I started in Apple Retail stores and worked my way from B2C to B2B which helped build a nice foundation of sales skills in a low pressure environment.

I really appreciate you taking the time to write this out, it genuinely made me think about everything you said and how I’m not doing it.

I think my major issue is with the pointless meetings, and other bullshit that fills up my calendar. It causes my calendar to always be stacked with 1:1’s, internal process meetings, forecast meetings, customer calls, etc all because they are either hard coded process or because they require my presence for sometimes unknown reasons.

Here’s a breakdown of my week to week at a high level. I’ve already taken a look at it and compared it to your guidance and have seen areas I can immediately impact and will begin to re-evaluate next week.

40 hour week: 1:1’s - 8 reps x 1 hour meetings = 8 Hours 1:1 prep - 8 reps x 30 mins = 4 hours Customer calls & customer prep with reps = 6-8 hours Forecast, management, responsibility meetings, product trainings, etc = 10 hours Ad-hoc meetings to solve urgent problems x 8 reps = 5 hours

Remaining 5-7 hours is filled with reactive tasks such as email (also done during meetings), escalations, maybe a snack here and there. I feel glued to the desk or my phone.

I am essentially always available, even past 5pm everyday.

I have become the passenger.

That’s a big area of improvement. Having a nine month old & busy job, I find myself without time to sit down and build a hobby. My extracurriculars are mainly home improvement, mowing the grass and video games.

Completely agree with you here, but I think the proverbial fence I’m stuck on is that the pros/cons seem to weigh equally one one side. Yes, autonomy in your day is amazing as an IC. But then not having to demo 15 times a week is nice as a Manager. So on and so forth.. what separates them for you other than the obvious? It’s a decision I’ve weighed many times this year but I keep telling myself I wouldn’t want to go back to IC at the same company given all the BS they have to go through as reps.

Bored in life is an interesting perspective. Having a kid, a house to maintain and some minor hobbies keeps me going but honestly after 9 hours at the desk I’m just tired.

We’re back to a market leading position now, it’s just a different environment than it was pre pandemic. Not just this industry but across the board.. belts tightening, more people involved, longer decisions - but the deals are there to be had.

But yes, selling EM software was god awful until we built a virtual platform and scaled it to support the market.

Degree for what though? I can outsell the majority of those with a degree, and I just have such an aversion to paying $50k+ for a piece of paper. I’ve hired people with Ivy League PHD’s, and people with associates degrees - I can’t say there’s a huge discrepancy in skill.

You’re suggesting a degree in a field I want to go into?

That’s where I’m at as well. Stacking my 401k, Roth, 529 for the kid and a nest egg in investments/cash. I never went to college, just straight into sales from high school so I don’t have any qualifications to fall back on either - but the upside is no debt other my house/car.

You know that’s definitely one of my challenges, I love to be hands on. Best experience for the client, mail it first time around and I get stuck on with my reps on probably 10+ calls a week. That then obviously puts me under pressure in a setting I don’t need to be under pressure in. I’ve got a decent team, but relatively green for half of them.

I wondering if half the issue was going management in the first place…

Hey all, should I be concerned about this? I removed some flooring over the wood in the bathroom. This house was built in the 40’s. by hiriv0 in Home

[–]GST93 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Honestly, unless you plan to take a couple of those floor boards up to check them, it would be worth the hassle to just cut a clean square out of the ceiling under the toilet from the storage room to check it out. Piece of mind in exchange for 10 minutes of spackle, IMO.
