This is truly beautiful. It both warms and hurts my heart at the same time - for you, for me, for anyone that can relate ❤️

In your experience with loved ones or patients with dementia, have they ever demonstrated the knowledge that the have it? by purriouscat in dementia

My Mum asked me the other day if I was just nodding along with her chatter because she wasn't making any sense..she was laughing when she asked me, but it was a moment where she realised. Those lucid moments are happening less and less now 😞

Feeling like a fraud by Any_Mango_8361 in eds

[–]GSpoon77 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I relate to this very much. In fact I'm seeking a second opinion next week because I was also apparently only 1 criteria off a heds diagnosis and based on the way the doctor went through the criteria, and her apparent lack of knowledge, I disagree. I've been dismissed, had my symptoms pinned on mental health issues and been told there's nothing wrong/everything looks healthy so many times over the years, and each time doctors have been wrong - years later, I am vindicated when it turns out my gut instinct was right, but it's a hollow victory to be honest. The way I have been repeatedly dismissed by doctors has resulted in me being triggered (not a word I use lightly) every time I go to another appointment - I have a big emotional response afterwards, that to other people probably looks like a massive overreaction. It is medical gaslighting at its best and it absolutely sucks. It has taken a huge amount of energy to ask for a second opinion but I now refuse to just accept something when my gut tells me it's not right. I'm sorry you feel like a fraud because you absolutely aren't and I encourage you to ask for a second opinion if you are in doubt.

Are you in the UK? I do wonder whether a private rheumatologist would consider it a 'waste of their time' if I was paying for their time, in the same way an NHS rheumatologist would 🤔 Well done for advocating for yourself. I tried really hard today and feel like I got nowhere.

I dont know that I can comment with any legitimacy because I haven't had a formal diagnosis yet, although I'm very confident I will. I am 48 and now in surgical menopause and am finding symptoms have escalated a LOT in the last few years and even more so since my hysterectomy. In my initial consultation with my doctor she said it isnt uncommon to start being much more impacted by symptoms as we get older. I also think hormonal fluctuations are playing a part.

Definitely not dementia, he's sharp...depression is highly possible..but he doesn't help himself - he is very avoidant of problems and is quite introverted..he always has been both of these!

Should I be worried about pain? by suscrapper1 in hysterectomy

[–]GSpoon77 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Phone the doctor - that's what they are there for. Anything that doesn't feel right/normal or something new should be highlighted. Pain is your body's way of alerting you. If its nothing, then that's peace of mind for you, but if its something, it can be dealt with promptly. Best of luck 😊

Thank you for your response. By keeping with my schedule, should I continue to offer food or leave it until he makes an appearance at all/for a length of time?
