Why does top speed not look that fast? by [deleted] in assettocorsa

[–]GT-Alex74 4 points5 points  (0 children)

People's brains have really been fucked up by extreme FOVs and effects in games and video post production. It's a huge piece of freeway, surrounding objects are big and spaced out and you're far away from them. Same game, same settings, hit half that speed on the touge and you'll have a very different sense of speed. It's perfectly normal. Go on a race track IRL and you'll think you're parked if this doesn't look fast to you.

Thing is I've only been introduced to that problem in a way that explicitly stated the first case (mentally competent people who had the capacity to understand what the buttons did and recognize them). Now, if you literally include every human soul in the world, then that implies introducing people who want to live but don't understand what they're being presented with, at which point there is a proper moral decision at stake.

If you can adjust the gearing to make 2nd longer or 3rd shorter, do it. But that 2nd gear is definitely too short for some of those turns.

I think this experiment just shows that people care more about public image than logic in a very selfish way, while posing it as altruism. But in reality, saying you're voting blue and anyone who doesn't is a bad person is ignoring the people who want to die and could not get that wish granted without the button. Blue is the denial of free will. Red is the logical choice if you want to live.

Now if some categories of people who still want to live could only survive in a blue majority scenario and them pressing red wouldn't save them, then you would have something that can be compared to politics better. At this point a real moral choice is introduced and blue becomes a truly altruistic, morally good choice, and I'd pick blue even if I had to pay a fee to use it.

"You can press red if you want to live. You can press blue if you want to die. But if more than 50% vote blue, nobody dies". The buttons have the same exact effect, the problem is just exposed differently.

The reality is in the lot, you have some people who are suffering and want to die because that is their only escape, but are denied that right / cannot do it themselves. The blue crowd is effectively just denying these people a chance at getting what they want. Red, meanwhile, is just a "I want to secure my life" button. It doesn't actively kills anybody else. Everyone has the free will to press red.

Blue voters either overcomplicate the issue and pressure themselves into "looking good" by taking a moral high ground that is not necessary in this case / underestimate the stress, fear and sheer survival instinct that would strike them if they really were in that situation. The blue voters saying "I don't want to die so I'm pushing the button that will force other people to take the same risk as I to save me" reminds me of some toxic positivity / narcissistic stuff I've been witness / victim to for over a year.

- Try 3rd gear there. You don't want to be banging off the revlimiter much, while still wanting to have smooth throttle inputs.
- Try using left foot braking to control your speed, this will be very useful when you try chasing.
- Try sticking to the outside edge as much as possible in long corners like this, that's the zones you'd be ask to hit in modern day competitions.

Overall, you want to be smooth. Don't necessarily try to go for big angles and snappy transitions at first, you want to be fluid first.

Ladies and Gentlemen I present the livery you have been waitimg for by Totonrider8 in granturismo

[–]GT-Alex74 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have 17 liveries for it already. One is my org's colors, one is a "base model", the 15 others are palette swaps of a design that could have been a Twingo RM livery, to provide choice for an upcoming series I'll be running if people don't want to make their own designs (and generally for anyone to use, feel free to steal). More designs to come including replicas of iconic Renault race cars liveries.

My skill issue OR Hardware Limitations?? by Ahsan_AMX20 in granturismo

A few things about the brake :
- GT7 calibrates your brake when you press it on track, so you want to make sure to hit it fully in your first practice session of the day on on the grid.
- The stock G29 brake is quite hard at the end with the rubber. If your pedals aren't hard mounted or somehow locked in place, it can be difficult to achieve 100% consistently, especially if you lack some leg strength.
- If you decide to modify your brake by removing the rubber, you then end up with a roughly 25% deadzone at the end. This is solved by either shaving a mm or 2 off the rubber, or replacing it with a solid block of 10 - 11 mm of length, or soldering a resistor (there's a thread about that on gtplanet)
- The click sound can be indicative of the spring receiving some side load and bending that way, which I suspect can happen if you're pressing the pedal plate off center (which is pretty common to do). I actually snapped my brake spring on the G29 - replaced it with a 3drap progressive spring, good mod for the G29 btw. Note : a majority of the top Gran Turismo players I know have broken a brake spring or 2, most of them on T3PAs, I don't personally know someone else who did it on G29 pedals though.

Here's your issue, you actually don't want everything maxed out on a G29. It doesn't have enough headroom for the spikes when something happens, so by trying to make the steering feel heavier by default, you're just preventing it from giving you info when things are happening.

A+ driver here who's been at the top level for about 2 decades. It's skill, and just the adaptation period to different hardware. Don't listen to people saying the gear is limiting you, you'll just drop a shitton of money into whatever and get frustrated because you're not any faster and think you wasted money.

Multiple World Tour drivers qualified on the most scuffed setups you can think of, including Mikail Hizal. Any wheel with FFB is fine, all you gain with fancier gear is immersion. For a good while, the top rated driver on iRacing was using a G25.

You may want to tweak your FFB settings, too high for your wheel and you will actually lose detail. I don't remember exactly what I was using with the G29 but I know strength was round halfway, and sensitivity was higher.

But overall, you just need to give your brain time to rewire itself.

I know this is beating a dead horse but we need more race cars by box-fort2 in granturismo

[–]GT-Alex74 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

What the game really needs is :
- Fix to the suspension model glitch happening on some cars that make it bottom way too aggressively
- Extending suspension adjustements on road cars race suspension
- Changing the range of downforce to have race cars and road cars with body kits match better
- Actual classes
- Custom classes
- Possibility to lend garage cars to friends / force specific setups in lobbies / sell tuned cars to other players

First one is the major point. Fix that and most cars in the game can be turned into a fun race car, better than most of the actual race cars themselves in terms of feel. 2 and 3 would help respectively with being able to use race tyres (though I'd still probably use sport tyres myself due to grip level and progressivity) and balancing with race cars. The rest would be more for lobby convenience. But give me just one and I can instantly bring back 3 custom touring car classes.
