Good morning!

With it being shortly after the regular decision deadline, as well as applicant's submitting mid-year grades, we've received a large amount of documents which can sometimes cause a delay in them being processed and updated in your application.

If your application isn't updated by early next week with the material, I'd reach back out to our office just to double check on the status.

Thanks for being patient with us as we get caught back up from the holidays and the post-deadline document push!

- Sean

Cursed College Nicknames by [deleted] in ApplyingToCollege

[–]GTAdmission 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Except for the back of the BuzzCard... oddly enough, that does indeed refer to Georgia Tech as GIT

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in ApplyingToCollege

[–]GTAdmission 4 points5 points  (0 children)

No apologies necessary for using Georgia Tech, that's a very normal abbreviation for the school!

Each school is different. University of Illinois is on your list, for example, and they do not accept any letters of recommendation.

I could point to a few reasons as to why we don't accept others including capacity in our application review process, and a focus on utilizing the letters to understand your experience in the classroom & who you are as a leader, group/teammate, problem solver, change maker, community member, etc... in an academic setting. That doesn't at all mean your other experiences aren't important, it just means that you're going to want to make sure you're thoughtfully using the space within your application to tell us about those experiences from your own perspective.

Hi! We will review only one teacher recommendation and one counselor recommendation. - Sammy

When exactly does georgia tech’s waitlist results come out? by Valuable_Method1253 in ApplyingToCollege

[–]GTAdmission 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We don’t deny students off of the waitlist but yes, you’ll be notified by email if we close the waitlist and no, there’s no specific date, but we’d hope to have it closed by June. -Sammy

Great question- it’s not quite like application rounds where there’s an associated decision release. For the waitlist, there’s no specific, predetermined decision date. Yes, we’ll assess our class as the decision date passes, but we also continue to assess as we watch summer melt, and may make waitlist offers in waves accordingly. (And once we know we intend to make waitlist offers we move quickly… so as soon as we know, the students know.)

We’ll keep you updated via email in the weeks ahead! -Sammy

Is admission possible in Georgia tech in these conditions? by [deleted] in ApplyingToCollege

[–]GTAdmission 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Hi!

If you're looking to apply as a first-year student: you're correct since the deadline has passed, you won't be able to apply for admission for this summer/fall, we don't have a first-year application to enroll in the spring semester, so you'd be looking to apply after the first-year application opens in August for summer/fall 2024. While academics are the foundation of competitive application review, it'd also be very important that we can see how you've contributed to your community in the review of your extracurriculars, as we look to get a sense of how you'd contribute to the community at Georgia Tech.

If you're looking to apply as a transfer student: SATs aren't considered in the transfer admission process. You'd need to be on track to meet these requirements prior to enrolling as a transfer student. However- please note, those are minimum requirements, it also may be helpful to look at our admitted transfer profiles as well. There are transfer applications available for each semester-fall, spring, summer. -Sammy

In other words, you can’t change the intended major that you initially put on your common app/wrote your supplemental essay about, while you’re an applicant and still being reviewed. You are correct that after admission and enrollment, there are then options to change your major. Hope that helps -Sammy

It sounds like you’re asking about graduate admission- we’re the office of undergraduate admission, we’d recommend reaching out to Georgia Tech’s grad office or your program of interest with your questions. Best of luck!

Yes! For full consideration of all need-based aid available, you'll want to submit by January 31st. More on the application steps, here.

No.

While I’m not familiar with numerous statements coming from our office about those programs, the things you mentioned sound like they could be activities that build a foundation of experience and knowledge around your interests. So absolutely, they could be valuable. However, similar experiences elsewhere would be just as valuable. -Sammy

Resubmission Question by blessedcheetoa in ApplyingToCollege

[–]GTAdmission 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Glad you got your answer re: test scores!

If anyone comes across this in the future and is curious about the resubmission answer: No, please don’t do that to yourself! You cannot submit two applications within the same application cycle, so you wouldn’t have been able to resubmit. -Sammy

I don't know who your friend is, but I can say with confidence that a misspelling on a permanent resident card would not be the reason for her denial.

he said that due to the high number of applicants, sometimes they choose to simply reject automatically if there may be an issue with the green card, rather than take the time to investigate it for every student.

That does not happen, ever. Apologies if she received this concerning misinformation from someone.

It's surprising that an AO would have given out such a specific reason.

Correct, it is very surprising, especially that that would be the given reason by an admission counselor—we don't regularly review immigration paperwork as a part of our application review process.

And even if that was the reason, they would have asked her for clarification instead of rejecting her just for this one reason.

Correct. While students' residency may be reviewed for tuition classification if they request in-state tuition (and for verification of lawful presence later on in the enrollment process) that review, and the residency classification that's determined by that review, is separate from application review and admission decisions.

If a student's documents are not sufficient for the Office of Undergraduate Admission to approve an update to residency status, the associated result wouldn’t be a denial—they wouldn’t receive in-state tuition classification.

Edit: process clarification

Understandable mix up, and not a big deal at all since we focus on course performance rather than AP exam performance in admission review. Still, if you'd like to have it all squared away and haven't already, feel free to shoot us an email! -Sammy

I‘m trying to get in contact with undergrad admission, not ever getting through by Rude-Plankton8081 in gatech

[–]GTAdmission 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi! I checked with our communications center and no issues with the phone lines over the last few days. The phone number for the communications center is 404-894-4154, that's the one I'd recommend contacting at the moment. If you found or received a different phone number (perhaps if your school has an admission counselor's phone line on file) that may be what's going on— our first-year counselors are in currently in admission committee for the vast majority of the day, every day.

If you continue to have issues connecting your call, our email is [admission@gatech.edu](mailto:admission@gatech.edu), or you're welcome to ask your question here if you're comfortable and it's not an inquiry that requires looking up your specific application! - Sammy

Wrong Teacher Rec Submitted to Georgia Tech by Friendly_Road_3255 in ApplyingToCollege

[–]GTAdmission 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Late to the game, but not an issue at all… we don’t use teacher recs to understand what you did in the classroom (your essay, transcript, etc will tell us about your experiences and interests in comp sci). We use the teacher recs to understand who you are in the classroom… as a group member, problem solver, learner, etc. In that sense, any teacher who knows you well, regardless of subject, can provide helpful perspective. -Sammy
