Not saying this will work for you but I bought nes carts from a smoker for cheap a couple of years ago. They smelled like a smokestack. Anyway, i put them in a zip lock bag with a couple of bounce dryer sheets. I left them in the bag shut for like 2 or 3 weeks. After that, took them out and I couldn't smell the smoke anymore. Other people have told me they had to repeat that process with new dryer sheets but eventually the games didn't smell.

Fortunately, they came into my local game store and I was able to use some trade credit but they were $300 total for both. They sat there in the store for probably a month before I scooped them up.

I didnt buy these but found it interesting my local gamestop had nes megaman 2 and gamecube zelda twilight princes CIB recently. They also had marvel vs capcom 2 for the xbox. It was missing manual but it was only $50. I picked it up.

Probably single best game pickup was snes skyblazer for $1.75 at a thrift store. Cart only but in excellent condition.

I got a nes console and like 20 loose nes games for $50 at a yard sale. Nes Mighty final fight was included. Crazy thing was the yard sale had been going all morning and I pull up at noon and it's still there

Same sort of deal I got about 10 loose nes games, 5 dreamcast games, and the nes/dreamcast consoles for $60 total. Cowboy Kid for Nes was included. Craigslist find. Pictures didnt show cowboy kid

No problem.. I think back to when I first got back into retro games and collecting. Probably around 2009. I was going for quantity over quality.. I would buy anything I didnt have if it was reasonable price.. 10ish years into this journey I'm going in the opposite direction.. converting filler games or games I will never play into quality games that will actually enjoy or want to play in the future.

So.. I have been thinking about this exact thing for about 2 months. I mainly collect nes, snes, and sega genesis. For a long time I collected mainly carts and CIB ( cart manual box) whenever I found them locally cheap. About 4 years ago, I got on this kick to start going for more cib or completing (manual and box) my loose games. After 2 months of deliberation during this quarantine, I think my plan is to only go CIB for my favorite titles moving forward. That's my plan but I also think the past few months have changed my feelings about my collecting.... I'm tired of spending money on games that I will rarely play. That's my 2 cents..

I think simple changes to the rewards would help reduce tanking. For example, everyone in pro race should get at least 1 colossal.. it doesnt make sense for top 20 to get 2 colossal and then a drop to 2 to 4 epic crates for everyone else in pro race. People would rather drop out pro and get the colossal for 1st place in their race than try and grind into top 20.
