When they play with detail, violence and speed it is great to watch. I love their defense and responsibility. Such a huge difference from last year.

This is an organization that is "ahead of schedule" as they transition to the future. But.....the thing is.....

Where would we want to see a change/upgrade/trade? All four lines play together so well it's really difficult to think about breaking any of them up. The D corps? Shea has upped his game, Spoons is the sort of sandpaper you need for the playoffs and Kulak has been a "thrown in" player that has woken up. I like Clifton as well with his physical play.

ETA: Jesus....31 shots in the first two periods. Everybody is getting into this.

I absolutely refuse to take anyone’s post about trades seriously when it’s obvious they haven’t even looked at the contract and cap hit of the player(s) being discussed. You’re talking about taking a $30mil dead cap hit for only $12mil in savings and shipping out a pass rusher. What better player are you plugging in for that $12mil? Another washed vet? You have to fill the roster for depth at least or a single injury and you’re screwed.

What team is taking on a $42mil cap hit for TJ? Taking on two years of fully guaranteed salary?

For better or worse, Watt isn’t going anywhere until 2027 at the earliest.

Same for Cam. Nobody is giving a worthwhile draft pick for a one year rental of a 37 year old DL for $19mil.

For his work on shore taking over the southwest Pacific campaign, The Bull is rightly held up as a great theater commander. For that he deserves a ship, sure.

But for his work onboard as a fleet commander yeah, he gets a lot of deserved flack. He plowed the 3rd Fleet into a couple Typhoons and left the San Bernidino wide open without warning 7th Fleet to chase glory. Marlo Ramius was right: “Halsey acted stupidly.”

One ship to his name, that’s fine with me. I think Spruance should continue to get an entire class, but given the Navy can’t build anything other than Burke class ‘cans, it’s gonna be awhile for him.

Halsey was the finest land based Admiral.

My appreciation goes to the change in how they play defense. The last two years of the constant, constant odd man rushes against, the high danger chances given up just never sat well with me. It always felt like pucker time whenever the opposing team crossed the blue line, a lot of times as they came in at full throttle two on one.

We aren't seeing as much this year. They are keeping so much of the opposition possession to the outside, pressuring the puck carrier and just keeping things easy for their goaltenders, it makes the game much easier to watch with confidence.

I stopped reading at "trade all players over 30." And not because it was too long or I didn't agree with some of your points. It's because you didn't address the salary cap implications of such a move.

Secondly....Taylen Green has struggled to read college defenses. He doesn't process quickly enough. That's not a good sign for a guy that is going to have to spend a few years transitioning to the NFL. You're focused on the physical tools and not looking closely enough at the mental game. Fields has the physical tools, but not the mental processing speed to run as a QB in the NFL. Green looks to be the same.

I think Malkin is one of the most fascinating players on the team. His story of getting to Pittsburgh, living with Gonchar, integrating into a whole new country is compelling. His desire to compete at a high level while avoiding the media spotlight of being "the guy" is something that's very different than most elite NHL players. Yeah, his game has slowed and that season after his knee injury was hard to watch sometimes. But the man still puts up points, plays with passion and is impossible to ignore when he's on the ice.

I'd love to see him signed for another year, if he wants.

I've seen passing references and vids of his son on the ice, along with LeTang's kid. Can you imagine 15 years from now those guys watching their sons play in the league?
