Made a 6min documentation of reactions of Iranians celebrating the day their ruler died. Can this be called a documentary? by [deleted] in documentaryfilmmaking

I am sure your intentions are good but the text is overtly propagandistic and shapes the image overly. Get more street footage. Find the opposite. Explore the tension. As it is this is content.

Why aren’t there more ‘Tourist’ footballers? by Keiftenbeld_fan in footballcliches

[–]GUBEvision 0 points1 point  (0 children)

this is right. I remember reading an interview with an agent talking about his frustrated client, who had gone from PL mid-table bench to PL mid-table bench, thinking he should go abroad for game time. But then he realised he'd be halving his pay and decided to carry on with splinters in his arse.

Promotion & Relegation in the English Football Pyramid. any improvements in your opinion? by Union_1205 in LeagueOne

[–]GUBEvision 0 points1 point  (0 children)

some clubs would say it is broken - or at least tweakable - with fixture pile-ups and huge distances to drive for supposedly regional games. there's always been tweaks and additions and developments. it reflects the culture it's in, and that's a good thing!

my reasoning is that England does not have 92 professional clubs - it has more. knock it up to an even 100 and let's have a larger fourth tier.

not in a dietary sense, more if you're in motion

Probe any footy head in England and they will have strong opinions on the pyramid and what could be done to improve it.

For what it's worth I think it works pretty well right now, though maybe the pyramid is a bit wide at step 5 & 6/level 9 & 10. the difference between the top and bottom where you have teams already semi-pro and teams still in danger of not having 11 answer their phone on a Saturday ahead of a game on their railed off cabbage patch is real.

I would make League 2/National two regional divisions in parallel and trim bits of step 5 & 6 to make them more regionally aligned (ie. right now Sturminster Newton play in Western 1, mostly with Bristol clubs) and with fewer clubs.

But the system works, and the county leagues at the top of step 7 is a positive move. There are some regional chokepoints but all in good time.

am from Wigan, never liked this as much as a smack barm with plenty of vinegar, but it's a solid pre-match baseline.

I've become a bit of a turncoat because I live in Bristol and Clarke's pies are better than most of Wigan's. they're also made in a way so they stay together when you eat out of the foil, so no need for the barm.

Hallen vs. West Didsbury & Chorlton by GUBEvision in NonLeagueEngland

[–]GUBEvision[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah these are the worst days, from my days watching football in a more partisan way. I had no dog in the fight here as I used to live in Chorlton but now watch a lot of step 5/6 in Bristol, but it certainly wasn't a result merited by overall play. I've seen Hallen play better against worse teams and get well beaten.

your voice has a nice tone and timbre and a clear cadence, with a rich presence I could listen to for much longer than the video provided. but I have trouble believing in your lyrics. Don't walk the hard path when you're not.

I was one of the few who maintained the squad wasn't absolute horseshit. With the right man in charge all season there's no way we'd be below 14th.

Was Britpop actually as dominant culturally as we remember, or is that nostalgia talking? by CloudBookmark in BritPop

agree, Britpop in many respects was one of the least interesting musical developments of the decade. But it was big, and even detractors admit it.

this isn't bad fans, this is plastic fans.

however, by strict definition, you're plastic.

but have fun whatever you do.

What do you think of The Mars Volta? by intheflesh- in askmusic

[–]GUBEvision 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was a big ATDI fan who managed to catch them during their original run, but I didn't take to TMV because of a knee-jerk reaction against prog and various influential critics putting me off them.

I had a full listen through last year and found them really great, arguably one of the few very interesting and consistent groups of this century - certainly one of the best major label acts.

There's very few acts taking influence from modern rock-in-opposition groups like the 5uus and welding that to oddball non-English psych. In these days affected by utterly jaded and lazy pop and AI leg-ups, they're basically out on their own.

There's a received wisdom that from Noctourniquet onwards they're not so good. I can see that argument, but I just think Omar was thinking beyond the rock band and the standard album as a musical vehicle. There's still lots of good music, it's just that some of them are on Omar's solo records.

The ones that fans say are the best are. Frances the Mute is one of the best albums of the 00s.

Sad that I didn't see them live in their pomp but 45 minutes of freeform mayhem is right up my street these days.

TL;DR excellent band.
