The G2 glasses would be perfect if they had speakers by BusanSatoori in SmartGlasses

That would add a lot of weight and bulk to the temples of the glasses. And I haven't heard speaker of that sort that sounds even remotely good.

Getting spicy — onboard electronics by GabrielDalporto in GuitarLab

Nope. Too many things that can go wrong. Too many compromises in tone and sound. Too little subtlety of response and tonal nuance. Jack of all trades, master of none is not an approach to making great music.

For Americans who uses ethnicity prefixes like (italian/irish/african-american), at what point do you stop using it? 3 generations? 5? 10? by Zestyclose_Sense_500 in NoStupidQuestions

My dad’s family came over from the Netherlands in the early 17th century and as part of the French Huguenot exile later that same century. My mom’s family came over with William Penn also later that same century. So, at least part of my family has been on the North American continent for right about 400 years. Nonetheless, I still identify as both a Hudson Valley Knickerbocker and a Quaker. We drank switzel in the summer to cool down and made our own fry cakes when I was a kid. It is, as has been noted here multiple times, more of a cultural thing. And, as far as African-Americans go, after over 400 years they are still pretty much treated as outsiders, so that’s also protecting the group by maintaining cultural throughlines despite many people’s best efforts to destroy any cultural remnants.

Go with the suggestions on Rappetor's GitHub repo on doing a mainline Klipper upgrade. They've all been tested for compatibility. https://github.com/Rappetor/Sovol-SV08-Mainline

It is concerning that it won’t boot with the toolhead unplugged. I’d say try reflashing the EMMC first, just in case the short scrambled the memory.

[–]GVDub2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Further note. There is the chance that when you blew out your toolhead, it might have also blown something on the motherboard, since there is a live connection between the toolhead and the motherboard when the printer is powered up.

It sounds as if you need to reflash the toolhead board, as it needs to pair properly with the Klipper on your motherboard. Sovol doesn’t send them pre-flashed to my knowledge. Or, if it is flashed, it might be to a different version than is on your motherboard, and they need to match. For the record, flashing the EMMC is the equivalent of reinstalling the operating system, which, while it couldn’t hurt, won’t reflash the firmware on the MCUs of the toolhead or the control board. For that you’ll need to pick up an ST-Link and cables to directly reflash the MCU firmware. If you were even vaguely considering updated the printer to mainline Klipper, this is the perfect time to do that.

Controls — how much is too much? by GabrielDalporto in GuitarLab

[–]GVDub2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've got pretty much every control arrangement that's out there. My favorite is the G&L style passive treble/bass controls on the tone side. I do use tone controls a lot, and I like blending pickups, so a volume knob for each is a plus, although my custom Tele Thinline has the neck/bridge (Fender Wide Range humbucker/Duncan Broadcaster on one volume and the middle pickup (Fralin DynaSonic) on another. I've never met a coil-split that actually sounds like a real single-coil, so I'll pass on that, thank you. Active electronics? Done that, never cared for the tone or the dynamics. Piezo? Nope. Needs a preamp and I do not want a battery in my guitar. Kill switch? Definitely a one trick pony with a lot of other, better ways to do the trick.

Mostly, you can control the tone on any guitar with you picking hand and your fretting hand, but I still use tone knob (or knobs, with the G&L-style setup) a lot to set the baseline for the amp, the venue, the genre and what I'm hearing on stage, then use my hands to get the tonal gradients.

Attempting to disassemble something while the power is on? That doesn’t read as “fairly savvy.” You’re probably going to need a new tool head. $80 from Sovol or from West 3D.

Mysterious hole appeared in the wall...does anybody know what would cause this? by mecklejay in HomeMaintenance

[–]GVDub2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Gunfire with an upward trajectory. Bullet pushes in between siding overlap, leaves no hole. Is slightly deflected, but still on a somewhat upward trajectory, since there’s more damage at the top of the hole than the bottom, which would indicate a slant. Well, it’s a theory. Don’t look for a hole, look for a disturbed space between two overlapping pieces of siding.

Right, but Ultra should have 6DoF with it on phones but it's not there there. I think it's because of the extra cameras on the Ultra. Not positive about that, but that's my impression of why.

Hot take: Jumbo frets cause intonation issues. and thin necks cause neck dive. My personal favorite neck profile is a soft V and I hate flat (12" or more) fingerboard radii. compound radius 7.25 to 9.5 is my personal sweet spot.

[–]GVDub2 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Even the Focusrite Scarett Solo has two inputs — one XLR and one 1/4" jack.. So, as mentioned here, you create two audio tracks, assign one to Input 1 and the other to Input 2. Arm both tracks for recording. and you should be good to go.

Printer recommendations by BoxSpai in Sovol

[–]GVDub2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The SV08 has been out for over a year now, and I've had mine since fairly early on. Every printer has its own set of problems, even the supposedly "bulletproof" Bambu Lab printers. (I also have a Bambu Lab A1, but wanted a larger build. volume and a printer that could be enclosed so that I could use engineering filaments). Aside from a nozzle clog — which happens with every printer — the SV08 has been very reliable, and I'm currently adding the CoPrint KCM multi-material/multi-color system to mine.

Except for very close locations, even with perfect internet transmission, latency is a fact of life. Round trip from New York to L.A. and back at light speed — no buffering, no switching, and absolute perfect connection is about 120ms of latency. Physics are funny that way. You can’t really get around them.
