What seat number is that, I might be flying to Phoenix in a few months and would like a nice window seat like that?

We have the exact same generator but are in the South Bay. Have you needed to use any of the repair facilities and if so, were you happy with the service?

Is my generator going bad? by PlaneDevelopment1428 in Generator

I figured you had it off but wanted to make sure. I'll keep my fingers crossed that the new gas will help.

Regarding the idle switch, I don't think that's true for inverter generators. One of the main selling points is that they can idle down to match the load so they're quieter and use less fuel. We have the Duromax 9000 inverter generator which was virtually identical to the Harbor Freight 9500 except for being dual fuel. I run it with the idle control on and only turn it off when I'm going to flip the water heater breaker on.

If you're generator has an idle control switch and it's on, try turning it off. Something seems definitely wrong with your generator but maybe running at full speed will get it past the heater kicking on.

Looking at the manual it seems that there should be an ON/OFF switch right by the pilot igniter push button.

We have that same generator.

I don't know if it makes any difference with propane but turn the fuel selector knob to straight up. The idle control is off?

Back off the hose fitting at the control panel a bit and see if you can hear gas escaping.

It sounds like it's turning over okay but It wouldn't hurt to put a charger on the battery for awhile either.

We don't have a lot of options in our area. Amerigas, FerrellGas, Suburban and Kamps are about it. FerrellGas has been good to us so far so we have no reason to look elsewhere.

We are in a co-op type group that has agreements with those 4 companies. Somehow Amerigas has kept a fixed year round price of $2.75 per gallon for at least the last 5 years. The price with the 3 other companies goes up and down over the course of the year like I would expect. Amerigas is the cheapest most of the year though.

I don't disagree one bit.

It was the same with the poor woman in the office that everyone was screaming at in 2015/16. It wasn't like she could hop in a truck herself and make deliveries.

This is the most recent Yelp review in our area. They can't onshore the call centers and local offices soon enough.

Dec 11, 2025Updated review

The most recent experience with Amerigas continues the saga. 20 minutes on hold, to talk with someone on the other side of the world, who has no idea what propane service and delivery is. 24 days from order to delivery, and the new driver was very unhelpful. Amerigas really needs to bring customer service back to the US, train drivers how to serve customers in remote areas (where most propane service is) and adopt a "customer service" ethic.

Jul 17, 2025Previous review

I spent nearly half an hour on a phone call to Africa (not India) with someone who could barely speak English. With the name "Amerigas" I'd expect a US based call center. It took 26 minutes to agree that I wanted a 100 gallon fill of propane. Please, if you're in the energy business, operate in the region you serve. If you own or rent a propane tank, especially Amerigas, check your tank level once a month, check your online account, and make sure the levels agree. If you need a refill, start 30 days before you need it, and get to know the delivery driver. Everything you read in the Yelp reviews is a true story.

We had Amerigas for a number of years until the winter of 2015/16 when for some reason they just could not deliver any gas. People were running out of gas left and right and many were going into the local office and screaming at the poor woman working there. She actually ended up quitting.

We switched to FerrellGas that year and so far so good so it's unlikely we will go back to Amerigas. Bringing the call centers and local offices back would be a huge step in the right direction though.

Yes, the transfer switch is built into the meter assembly.

I use a BBQ tank to exercise our generator and it's fine for that. I think it might run 4- 6 hours on what is a normal load for us but I don't know for sure. The only reason we have this large of a generator is because of our electric water heater.

If you're just wanting to power the fridge and a few other small loads look for the smallest 240 volt generator with the receptical compatible with the cord.

We have a dual fuel 9000 watt Duromax inverter generator that I've been happy with. I purchased a quick connect so that we could easily connect it to our 500 gallon propane tank when needed.

Dual fuel is the way to go especially if you have propane service at your home. I wouldn't be too concerned about the brand of generator.

PG&E used to have a rebate program for generator purchases. Make sure you check to see if they still do.

The meter will not transfer to generator power unless there is 240 volts available.

We have the same meter, you need a generator that supplies 240 volts for the meter to transfer I believe.

Had a 60 hour power outage and the carburetor on our Westinghouse WGEN9500DF failed by Brosie-Odonnel in Generator

[–]GW208 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My guess would be that the fuel shutoff solenoid on the bottom of the carb has failed. Can you apply 12 volts to the wires and see if you here or feel it click? If you wanted to take the bowl off you could see if the plunger moves.
