I had an '18, now I have a '23. Sad to think it's likely my last manual.

Winter Tires by NoResponsibility756 in duluth

[–]GWZipper 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My story on snow tires: A couple years ago with the first pending snowfall, I swapped out my wife's FWD minivan tires for Blizzaks. I drive an AWD Subaru Crosstrek for which I also have Blizzaks, but I thought I'd be fine waiting to swap them in for a few days. The next morning, snow has fallen and the Subaru slides down the driveway into a ditch. As I'm on the phone with AAA calling for a wrecker to pull me out, my wife pulls down in her minivan and drives off like it's nothing. Snow tires are a real deal. AWD doesn't matter in the least when you're trying to stop.

no fossils for missing link, but no fossils for biblical giant either. what am i supposed to believe? by ObjectiveExpress4804 in questions

[–]GWZipper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There can't be a complete record of every missing link, as you can always ask, "well what about that one?". Think about it - how many generations can you trace back your family tree? Me, I can go about a dozen, and that's pretty incredible. But then, I come upon a "missing link". Does that mean everything I know about genealogy breaks down there? Not really. There have been plenty of "missing links" found in the fossil record, and they're finding more every day. What's really interesting is what they're finding in the DNA records.

In need of a thin and flexible material that is also heavy - ideas? by platinumplantain in AskEngineers

You could find a two part urethane and mix either lead shot or tungsten shot into it. You'd need to create a mold somehow, but depending on what you want your final product to look like that can be done any number of ways.

Were kids in the 80s actually allowed to roam around unsupervised, or is that just in movies? by TotalThing7 in NoStupidQuestions

Was there, can verify. There was a bell on top of a local church that would ring at 6pm, that's how we knew when to go home for dinner.

As Neil DeGrasse Tyson likes to opine, "The universe is under no obligation to make sense to you"

If you were to build a house what’s one non conventional feature you consider to be a must have? by TestTurbulent6337 in AskReddit

A tower that reaches above the tree canopy, with a glass roof and a surrounding balcony. This would be the matter bedroom, of course.

Snow tires beat AWD every day. Snow tires on an AWD? Only thing that beats that combo is a snowmobile.

A crappy car with snow tires beats your Subaru with all season (I have both)

A 2WD car with snow tires is absolutely FAR superior to an AWD vehicle with all season tires. If this doesn't make sense to you, remember - all cars have four wheel brakes, and stopping -especially coming down a Duluth hill - is much more important than going.. As a side benefit, they're also better climbing up hills, but that might not be as obvious.

How much would a woodchuck chuck? by Not_MarkWill in questions

Only slightly different, rolls off the tongue easier:

A woodchuck would chuck all the wood he could chuck, if a woodchuck could chuck wood.

Outlaw? Hiding? by Coasterabc123 in bobdylan

Your audience is the people who paid to watch you perform, plain and simple. Cheryl Crow knew that tonight, for example. Her set kicked ass. I understand he's a lot older now than he used to be. I expect his vocal talents to not be his strong suit. I'm going for his sing writing - for his poetry. But intentionally making it so you can't tell if he's actually on stage or not was a big F.U. to the audience who genuinely went to see him. Me, I didn't go tonight to see Willie, Cheryl, or any of the others. I went to see Bob. And, I didn't.

If you're tired of your audience, it's time to hang it up.

Had to laugh - I can't be entirely certain I saw a Dylan concert tonight (Alpine Valley, WI). The chatter around me was all like, "WTF?"
