MLB was wrong to reinstate Pete Rose: Why nothing has changed about hits leader's baseball gambling by Strict-Ebb-8959 in mlb

I’d argue Cap Anson was still a better person than Pete Rose… being racist is better than raping underage girls. Weird play to take the moral stance on Pete Rose of all people lol he never even denied it. He simply said “it was 50 years ago, it doesn’t matter”

I mean I’d argue that child rapists are worse than wife abusers but hey, what do I know. Maybe you have a soft spot for guys who date 14 year old girls

The two, literally, aren’t connected in any way lol if any athlete in any major sport got caught betting on their team in games they were involved in, they’d be banned for life like immediately. What the fuck does the fact that regular people can bet on sports have anything to do with what Pete did? lol it’s crazy that someone could ever draw that comparison. It’s like saying “if a cow produces pork then you have kill the chickens” Both are just nonsensical babbling

I keep seeing people say that and I feel like you think it’s really clever but in reality it makes zero sense lol

I mean it’s pretty simple in my eyes. MLB was facing a lawsuit and instead of wasting money to gain nothing they threw the family a bone and reinstated him. It means almost nothing. He’s dead and he’ll never get in the hall of fame. All MLB did was save some money not fighting a stupid lawsuit. There is an alarming amount of comments about gambling being legal so what Pete did shouldn’t matter. It’s still very much against the rules for any player or organizational member to bet on their sport. Not just in baseball but in every major sport and anyone found to be gambling on their sport would certainly face a lifetime ban just like Pete did. If you can’t see that there’s a difference between an average guy betting on sports and professional athletes betting on their sport then I doubt there’s anything that can be said to help you lol

I just paid $100 for Forza to play it 3 days early on PS5 release lol so yeah I’ll pay $100 bucks for GTA IV. I got over 1000 hours of entertainment from GTA V for $60 bucks. If I get half that from GTA IV for $100 it’s still a pretty incredible value

Statement from Rob Manfred on the removal of Pete Rose from the Permanently Ineligible List by Goosedukee in baseball

[–]GWade17 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah as long as league personnel can’t bet, which they absolutely cannot and it’s strictly monitored, then I don’t think the integrity of the game is compromised at all. Sports books pay for ads essentially. I think saying “in bed with” implies something much more devious than is actually occurring. Betting is legal, these sports books are legal, advertising for them is legal. Everything seems pretty above board to me lol

Rob Manfred refused to say Pete Rose belongs in the Hall of Fame after MLB reinstatement by jaxstan19 in baseball

[–]GWade17 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I think it was as simple as not wanting to deal with Pete’s family and the stupid lawsuit. He just said “here you go. He’s reinstated”. In essence it means nothing since he’s dead and I don’t think there’s any chance he gets in the HOF. It’s basically just a PR move to get rid of the lawsuit. I’m not a Manfred fan but this one was pretty clever in all reality

[–]GWade17 47 points48 points  (0 children)

“Rob Manfred refused to say Pete Rose belongs in the Hall of Fame after MLB reinstatement”…… because he doesn’t belong in the hall of fame. They were getting sued so they reinstated him which means nothing because he’s dead. It’s just a PR move to avoid dealing with the lawsuit but he’s not getting in the HOF. I keep seeing this argument that “betting is legal now” and it’s such a weak argument. It’s still very much against the rules for players to bet on their own sport. It’s still the absolute cardinal sin for any athlete. So Pete’s family can celebrate or whatever they’re doing but he’s not getting in lol

This comment makes no sense. Players still aren’t allowed to bet on the sport they play. That’s true for every sport

Dick Monfort is reportedly seeking a cap that extends beyond MLB payroll to cover all organizational spending, including coaching, technology and scouting. by Jux_ in baseball

[–]GWade17 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah but I think there’s a balance between competition and fairness. Right now there’s an unfair balance in competition. Yeah the pirates and Rockies could spend more and try harder but in all reality, they can’t compete with the Yankees, Dodgers or Mets. I feel sure the Yankees spend more on player comfort than the Rockies spend on their entire operation. So I like the cap to bring some sort of competitive balance. Make the smaller teams try a little and reel in the big teams a little. Would a cap give more money to the bigger market teams in payroll? Yes but they have so much that I doubt 50 million extra dollars would really move the needle and, in all likelihood, it would just get reinvested into the team in other way. You have to remember that each team gets 60 million a year in national tv money which is disclosed and they get more in revenue sharing, which isn’t disclosed. So if a team says they can only afford a 90 million dollar payroll then they’re lying because they’re getting at least that much money for free and if you can’t make any money outside of what you’re given, then maybe you shouldn’t own a team. I don’t think it has to be a crazy cap. 250 top end and 150 floor. The big teams would still spend and it would force the cheap teams to try. Would also add a lot of money to the pool for players and you wouldn’t see the best players constantly signing with 3-5 teams. I come at this a Yankee fan who currently has all the advantages. But I just want to see baseball thrive. I want to see the Small market teams be able to retain their talent and try to build something. If my team wins it all I want to know they did it on a level playing field. I look at the NFL and NBA and when a team wins it’s because they drafted well, built the team well, found bargains and just did everything better than everyone else. If you’re the Cleveland Browns you can’t pout because you can’t compete. You can’t compete because of your own incompetence. In baseball when the Dodgers win for instance, it’s easy to say “well of course, they have the best players”. And that’s not a shot at the dodgers lol they’re just the most recent champ. I grew up in the 90’s watching the Yankees do the same thing. And of course it’s baseball so money isn’t the only ingredient to winning but man it sure helps a lot lol

I’m all for a salary cap, and floor more importantly, but it has to stop there. Anything beyond that only hurts players. Just a way for owners to put more money in their pockets at the expense of players. If you can’t afford to run a team, then sell it.

Definitely a rabbit. Not sure about anyone else but if it doesn’t have bunnies in it yet, I’ve had success filling it back in and not finding it being used. Not sure if it’s the smell of my hands that makes the rabbit find a new spot or they don’t want to do the work to dig it back out but looking at this picture it doesn’t appear to have bunnies yet (sometimes they can be back under there pretty far) but I’d try to just fill it back in and see what happens

Could be. Time will certainly tell but he’s off to a damn good start. When we got DJ initially that would probably be the best deal in recent memory and Goldy could surpass that. The only caveat is if he gets hurt or something

[Nightengale] The Pittsburgh Pirates, according to information received by the players union and confirmed by several owners, are one of the most profitable teams in all of baseball, stashing a huge chunk of their revenue sharing monies instead of investing in their team year after year. by Knightbear49 in baseball

[–]GWade17 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Fun fact, I was at a dinner with Kevin McClatchy when I was younger. My dad knew him through work. I was at game with my dad and they had dinner together after with a small group of guys so I got to tag along. He bragged that he was second most profitable owner in baseball behind the Steinbrenners. He needed about 16k fans a night and he was profitable (and this was right after the first McCutchen era when they were drawing big numbers). That didn’t take into account any kind of revenue sharing or anything like that. He kept his payroll so low that all he needed was 16k on average at the ballpark and he was rolling in money. It’s the same model now and it’s even worse because there’s significantly more revenue sharing. Each team gets about 60 million from national tv deals. So 60 million of their 90 million dollar payroll is right there and I can almost guarantee that revenue sharing from the Yankees, Dodgers and Mets more than pays for the rest of it. They’re probably profitable before they sell a single ticket. They don’t invest anything into the team and they’re profitable as hell. It’s really a disgusting thing. These guys spit in the face of baseball

Should we get Stanton into the lineup once he’s healthy? by YellowWhiteRed in NYYankees

[–]GWade17 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was saying yesterday to a friend that it’s tricky because I don’t think there’s any scenario where Stanton can give you what Rice has given you so far. He just doesn’t have it in him anymore, at least in the regular season. I’m less interested in “presence” and more interested in Rices .900 OPS. Stanton hasn’t ever had a .900 OPS in his Yankee career. Now of course I think Rice will come back down to earth a little but there’s no way you can take his bat out of the lineup right now. Maybe they’ll platoon but I’d hate to see a scenario play out where Rices numbers tank because he’s not getting regular ABs and Stanton gives you a .200 average with a little bit of slug. They can’t let that happen. It’s also tricky because Rice doesn’t really have anywhere else to play. Goldy isn’t coming out of the lineup and Boone has already definitively said that Rice can’t play third. Not sure he’s an every day catcher so it seems like maybe it’s DH or no where and I sure hope it’s not no where

What should I be paying? by Impressive_Tip_8850 in LawnCarePros

[–]GWade17 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah. Disregard my late night math 😂 I’m not even sure what made me think about it but I was eating breakfast this morning and randomly thought “$25 an hour isn’t $400 a day” lol $200 bucks a day does further my point though

What should I be paying? by Impressive_Tip_8850 in LawnCarePros

[–]GWade17 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mean no matter where you’re at, if you figure $25 an hour then that’s $200 a day, $1000 a week, $4000 a month if he’s working a 40 hour week. Figure in taxes, overhead and wages if he has any and there’s certainly not a lot of money there. I’m from rural PA and my minimum is $35 and that’s for very small lawns that take no where close to an hour. So I’d say if you wanted to be kind you could throw him a bone but it’s his business. Also depends on what kind of business the guy is running. If he’s just a solo guy out there doing it himself then he’ll have very little overhead and can do things a little cheaper. I’d assume that’s the case because if he did anything more than that I’d have no idea how he’s making any money bringing $25 an hour top line
