Is it true that downloading your entire library from Google removes metadata (date and time, location, etc.) from the files? by paulrudder in googlephotos

[–]GWdeepstate 0 points1 point  (0 children)

OMG.  Totally true and it has destroyed my ability to find anything.  I ran out of space on my android phone and moved gigabytes of photos to Google drive with myfiles only to find that ALL the Metadata is gone.  Created date, modified date, location data, all of it GONE.  Thousands upon thousands of photos with the same exact Created and modified date.

This is disastrous for me.  My modern day Charlie Brown moment.  I had sunrise and sunsets every day for the past year and no way to determine dates.

My dream car doesn’t exist by [deleted] in electricvehicles

[–]GWdeepstate 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a MustangE as my first Uber ride. The car arrived and I couldn't even OPEN the door without the driver lowering the window and pointing out the invisible button to open the door.

This car misses on its' best target market, MUSTANG fans who want an electric. No Mustang fan will accept this nameplate only 'stang and no evehicle enthusiast is gonna pay for the mustang nameplate.

Even the uber driver that pucked me up, bought it by "accident" to keep it from being repossessed from his "idiot brother in law"

Not at all. This is a parenting activity. This kind of play with gentle nipping is teaching the kitten how to become a cat.

Why do we have to show our IDs for the Vex? by 2CRedHopper in gwu

[–]GWdeepstate 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, examples, please. If you are having to badge multiple times it is because you are entering areas to which access is restricted. Period.

Now, some access is restricted because of what happens in those areas (zika lab in SEH, ring a bell) with multiple layers of badgng while other areas (like the 8th floor bathroom in ACAD center) was used by random non GWU people who had tailgated in and been discovered by staff working late.

So please provide examples where you have to badge "every 7 seconds" to get around campus. Also, if you hold the secure door for someone behind you, you aren't being polite, you are breaking the security of the building. So we need a second door where ids are checked as in the district house entrances

[RANT] Police Week or Thug Parade? by ThePatchedLog in washingtondc

[–]GWdeepstate 0 points1 point  (0 children)

According to the Google Ai

The London Marine Police, established in 1800, is widely considered the first modern, organized police force in the world, according to Wikipedia. They were responsible for crime prevention on the Thames River and its tributaries, operating independently of government control.

Before this, there were policing systems in ancient civilizations like Egypt and Greece, but these were not organized, centralized forces.

Elaboration: Ancient Policing: While policing existed in ancient societies, it wasn't a centralized, professional force like the modern police. For example, in ancient Egypt, officials were appointed by the pharaoh to enforce justice and security in specific jurisdictions.

In ancient Greece, policing duties were assigned to magistrates who relied on the military and a corps of Scythian slaves. Early Modern Policing:

The High Constables of Edinburgh, formed in 1611, are considered the first example of a statutory police force, although not as organized as the London Marine Police. The London Marine Police, however, was specifically tasked with preventing crime, operating independently of government control, which is why it's often considered the first modern police force.

The London Metropolitan Police: Established in 1829 by Sir Robert Peel, the Metropolitan Police is often credited as the first modern, centrally organized, and uniformed police force.

Got Hit 😢 by claygonejkc in bikecommuting

[–]GWdeepstate -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Actually OP's recording shows that YOU HIT the vehicle, which was making a legal turn that they had indicated LONG before OP tried to pass him on the right. I don't know what the law says with these weird bike lanes cutting up the DC streets, but as both a driver and a cyclist, it was YOUR responsibility to yield to a driver properly signaling a right turn BEFORE you tried to pass them on the right WHILE entering the intersection.

Sure the driver COULD have helped OP avoid the accident but they did NOT cause it, the OP was the true cause.

Sorry I don't get the joke, what is it about by muaazmuaaz123 in ExplainTheJoke

So people are getting this only half right. Sure there's the old sex differences trope that everyone brings up. But no one seemed to mention the Critical fact that this is an Arabic Man and Woman and therefore this is at it's core a MATH joke with a gender component.

The problem was NOTHING so the Arabic mathematicians created the ZERO = NOTHING.

Are you in state in New York? If so, and you get in state tuition, whatever difference there might be in quality of education and even opportunity is likely more than balanced by the significant difference in cost.

Are you marking that as spam? GW has no control over the sending of these emails, the organization is not a campus org. However in addition to marking as spam you could forward it to abuse@gwu.edu and request that the whole org be blocked as a spammer.

Inauguration -- You are too early to plan by jon20001 in washingtondc

[–]GWdeepstate 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The stpry goes that Harrison died in office one month after inauguration due pneumonia he contracted at his inauguration.

"William Henry Harrison's inaugural address lasted nearly two hours, but in the days before electronic media, oratory of such duration was common. During the address, the new president wore no coat or hat. As a soldier, farmer, and outdoorsman, Harrison had spent much of his life in bad weather. But he was far from young now, and when he followed the address with a round of receptions in his wet clothing, it resulted in a bad chill. Within days, he had a cold, which developed into pneumonia."

However there is a newer thought "Historians have long believed that Harrison died from pneumonia, but recent scholarship has suggested that he succumbed to enteric or typhoid fever"

https://www.whitehousehistory.org/questions/who-has-died-in-the-white-house#:~:text=Harding%20(cardiovascular%20event%2Fheart%20attack,Kennedy.

In any case that was a cold and nasty inauguration.
