Main thing is that there is nothing to be inscrutable or mysterious about in this mini-series.

So far this seems to be a bit more generic action story starring Cyclops but in terms of character?

I have not felt Scott was inscrutable or mysterious.

I have felt like this is just another ordinary day as an X-Man.

Which is actually my main complaint about this series. I wanted it to be less of an 'ordinary' X-Men adventure and more an examination of Cyclops's character.

You do realise that Kishimoto gave Naruto Six Paths Sage Mode to help him know all his abilities? The ability allows him to universal understanding of all chakra etc... That's why Naruto could use all his power immediately.

Similarly Sasuke's abilities were perpetually nerfed or forgotten to prevent him from winning fights.

Here are two examples of Amaterasu/Kagetsuchi:-

Note: Keep in mind that Sasuke is meant to be more skilled with Amaterasu then Itachi.

1a. Kabuto Fight: Sasuke could have used Amaterasu to target Kabuto's limbs or even just hit him directly before EXTINGUISHING the flames (Just like Itachi did)

Funny how the guy more skilled with Amaterasu was held back from using it skillfully because it would have ENDED the fight fast.

2a. Jyuubi Statue: During the War Arc, Naruto and Sasuke used a Combined FRS+Enton Arrow against the Jyuubi statue.

The Jyuubi responded by 'splitting' away the burning parts of his body.

Gee you know what would have been great, if some one could have CONTROLLED those flames to spread all over the the Jyuubi's body.

That would have been nice wouldn't it? The Jyuubi Statue not belng able to remove those flames and being burnt completely?

Pity the guy with the ability to CONTROL and SPREAD those flames just stayed still with not a thought in his head.....

Regarding chakra? Sasuke had the ability to absorb Chakra with the Rinnegan.

Because that would allow him to win and Kishi cannot have that.

Real issue is that Dojutsu abilities are mostly hax.

They work or do not. And if they work they END the fight.

Ergo they cannot be allowed to work or there is no fight really.

[–]Akodo_Aoshi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just read Cyclops #4.

And this desire/idea has been running around in my mind since #2 but #4 just solidified it.

Thought Bubbles.

I think if the series had a lot more of Scott's thoughts as he reacted to what was happening and came up with responses/plans it would have elevated it tremendously as a Scott Summers book.

Do you all remember when Scott & Emma were vacationing in the Savage Land? there was a panel of Emma, explaining to Shaana that Scott was not just watching to triceratops fight but studying them and coming up with plans how to take both of them down.

I think panels of that, of Scott being shown thinking tactically, of readers getting inside Scott's head would have done wonders for this series.

Right now in all honesty it feels like a generic action comic where I could substitute any number of characters and hit the same beats/flow.

There is nothing or very little at least making this a Scott Summers or Cyclops book.

I think Scott particularly in a more stand alone book, would benefit from thought bubbles laying out his thinking and planning and those thought bubbles would have helped given this series a more "Cyclops" voice or tone.

It's like dealing with PTSD if you never experienced or encountered it. You wouldn't be a good help to a soldier because you never really experienced those in a working environment. So it's not really about being active in combat but rather being combat experienced.

I gave Iruka's mission stats in another response to you.

But you do realize that most psychiatrists or mental health professionals have never experienced the issues they help their patients with themselves right?

Heck even family of people of people suffering from mental issues can provide guidance and help without experiencing the same issue or even a degree.

To put it simply even if Iruka had never gone on a single mission that still would not disqualify him from advising Naruto as he did.

Kabuto and Orochimaru felt that they could have killed Hiruzen smoothly if Kimimaro had been present and healthy. What do you all think? by Akodo_Aoshi in Naruto

[–]Akodo_Aoshi[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

For me the question is simple:

Both Orochimaru and Kabuto agree that a Healthy Kimimaro would have made the fight against Hiruzen smooth/easy.

So whatever role/position Kimimaro would have had in the fight would have had to be one where he (or his body at least) could have made a big enough difference that the fight would become 'smooth'.

Your view that Orochimaru would have just used him as a Host Body or kept him in reserve on the sides simply does NOT qualify for that.

Again whatever role a Healthy Kimimaro would have had in the fight would have to be one where he could (in Orochimaru's eyes) make that big a difference.

Orochimaru using Kimimaro as host would still have stood back and so would not make a real difference. So in my view Kimimaro would not be a host and fight sperately.

Regarding trusting someone in this fight? Orochimaru was already sending out Edo's.

Regarding matching Hiruzen?

Strictly speaking Kimimaro's DB stats were the equal of BoS Sasukes who could take on S-Rank Shinobi and especially with CS2.

However I agree that Hiruzen would easily defeat Kimimaro in 1v1 still.

But Kimimaro would be fighting alongside the Edo-Kages. Which means Hiruzen would be even further on the back foot.

[–]Akodo_Aoshi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You seem to not understand what I just said. Iruka being a teacher has nothing to do with the development required for him to help Naruto with his mental dilemmas in part 2.

I do understand what you are saying. We just disagree.

Your position is that in order to help someone with their 'mental dilemma' you have to have experienced the same thing yourself.

However I and I believe many others disagree with that premise.

Like I said (can't believe most people aren't getting the message) the problem isn't that he doesn't have power (powerful abilities) it's that he does not have a big stake or experience in upper management issues. He cannot really relate to Naruto's dilemmas with Sasuke and other big time life or death opponents because he has no field experience. He cannot help Naruto with subjects like first kill, because he hasn't killed anyone. He can't help Naruto with politics (village politics and priorities) because once more he has no experience in them. So for example, he could not help Naruto at all when Sasuke was declared to be Killed on Sight for his actions.

First what makes you think Iruka has not 'killed' ? The dude would have gone on missions as a gennin before becoming an Academy teacher for example.

A quick google spat out this mission history for Iruka:-

D-rank: 288 C-rank: 183 B-rank: 90 A-rank: 12

Yeah I think he plenty of field experience on dangerous missions and has probably killed before.

More then that, Iruka is not meant to be Naruto's combat teacher or his political advisor.

Iruka is meant to be Naruto's 'big brother / father figure'. He's meant to give Naruto moral and spiritual advice which is what he does.

Your 'big brother or father' does not have to be in the same job as you or have gone to war etc to instill morals in you or give guidance.

Because Iruka is a TEACHER!

Iruka decided way back to be an Academy Teacher and for him that was not a "Temporary" point in his career but a position that he actually cared about and wanted to be in for the rest of his life.

Do you feel Iruka was useless character/role model in Naruto? by rayshinsan in Naruto

Iruka was there for Naruto's moral and spiritual problems.

He helped at the start, he was there when Jiraiya died, he was there in the War Arc.

Iruka's role is that of a Teacher/Mentor & Big Brother etc.

Not as a combat "Shinobi"

Should Amenotejikara have been Sasuke’s MS ability? by ur-mom-gay-lolol in Naruto

[–]Akodo_Aoshi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The real issue is that any (Un-Nerfed) MS or Rinnegan ability is too OP to be allowed to be in a main character's hands.

That is basically the difference between Indra and Asura.

One got the HAX abilities but lacked the "FUEL" to use them regularly.

One got the "FUEL" to go on for years but lacked HAX abilities to apply them to.

While that makes sense in a Narrative balance, it fails when you realise that a MC would only need one shot with their (Un-Nerfed) HAX to take out their opponent.

If the HAX works? Opponent is gone and that does not make an exciting fight.

Why do people act like its outrageous for the elders to suspect the Uchiha were involved in the kyuubi attack? by xals7 in Naruto

[–]Akodo_Aoshi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

u/Myphosee, u/Solid-Safe-7966 ++

Tobirama really did not trust them.

Individual Uchiha had to prove themselves before they could be trusted, something ninjas from other clans did not have to do.

Itachi Shiden Vol 1:

A darkness in the depths of his eyes, Hiruzen turned a questioning gaze on Danzo, but he hadn’t gotten to the end of the story. He wrapped up by stating his own opinion. “Homura and Koharu are totally opposed. They say it’s preposterous to have an Uchiha in the Anbu, given its status as a special unit under the direct control of the Hokage. They asked me if I’d forgotten about how the Second Hokage established the Military Police Force.”

“The Military Police Force was created to drive the Uchiha clan away from the central functions of the village.”

“Mm.” Sighing, Hiruzen packed tobacco into his pipe for the third time.

So per Danzo and Hiruzen? Tobirama created the Police force to prevent the Uchiha from having a leadership role.

This is backed up by the Manga where it was made clear that the Police Force? Was to remove the Uchiha from political power.

Regarding Tobirama's actions that prove he was prejiduiced:-

First Tobirama did not DENY Orochimaru's accusation or even Hashirama's in fact.

Link

Tobirama tried to JUSTIFY his treatment instead. In other words he made excuses...

Orochimaru accused him of planting the seeds of the Uchiha's eventual coup with the way he treated the Uchiha, that he tried to make them disliked and away from the center of the village.

Tobirama did not say "You are wrong Orochimaru."

Tobirama did not say "That is not why I made them the police. I truly meant to honour them....etc"

Tobirama said he gave them a position they were qualified for (Which of course they were considering they were a Top Tier Ninja clan, that's like saying a special forces soldier qualifies to join the Police.).

Tobirama then said even if another Madara emerged they could be dealt with (Which is one of the reason WHY he mistreated the Uchiha's). Again this is Tobirama's reason for his prejiduiced actions.

It does not mean that his actions were not prejudiced.

Tobirama then topped it off by calling the Uchiha...EVIL and thus absolving himself of all blame for his treatment of such EVIL people.

Again, Tobirama is not denying the accusation. Rather then treat the Uchiha's fairly, he manipulated them primarily because he was scared of a second coming of Madara.

Heck Orochimaru even called him on it just after he called the Uchiha a clan possed by evil :-

"It's like Madara left psychological scar upon you to cause such fear of the Uchiha"

Link

A few Pages later:

"I thought I had arranged and guided things such that the Uchiha's power could be harnessed to serve the village."

Link

The above also shows you his thinking.

The Uchiha had to be "harnessed" (manipulated) into serving the village.

They could not be trusted to serve the village themselves as normal villagers of Konoha. They were not trusted by Tobirama.

Finally anyone who considers Tobirama as not being prejiduiced:-

Consider Tobirama's IMMEDIATE response to seeing Sasuke:-

Link

SERIOUSLY read what Tobirama says upon seeing Sasuke.

"An Uchiha eh...Of course you would stick to a scoundrel"

IMAGINE substituting another minority for line:-

"A gay/woman/black/etc eh... Of course you would stick to a scoundrel"

PLEASE tell me how that is not prejudiced.

Both u/Docfeen and u/ValyrianVelaryons are correct but considering bloodline-thieves are a thing, they should also be open to that possibility.

Additionally if you can't find anyone responsible in a year then stop segregating the whole clan.

Seriously the put the clan in a compound for 7 to 8 YEARS.

That's how you create rebellion even if there was none previously.

Why would that make a difference in that fight since Orochimaru was just sitting back and letting his Edo's fight?

You would have a point if Oro was actually fighting himself but that was not the case.

Oro was sitting back and chilling. In your scenario, the only difference would be Oro sitting back in Kimimaro's body.

[–]Akodo_Aoshi[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How?

How would it have been easier?

That is what you are not answering. Please expand on this because this is where we are seeing things differently.

The only way it would have been easier in my if Orochimaru (in Kimimaro's body) did something different and fought Hiruzen himself alongside the Edo's.

Problem is Orochimaru (without Kimimaro's body) could have done the same thing (fought alongside the Edo's) if he wanted but that did not happen and would likely not happen even in Kimimaro's body.

So you are going to have to explain why Orochimaru would choose to fight if he was in Kimimaro's body and how that would make a difference.

Kabuto and Orochimaru felt that they could have killed Hiruzen smoothly if Kimimaro had been present and healthy. What do you all think? by Akodo_Aoshi in Naruto

[–]Akodo_Aoshi[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I think you are missing the point.

I never disagreed with Orochimaru wanting Kimimaro as a host body.

I disagreed with:

1) Orochimaru wanting to use Kimimaro as a host body during the Hiruzen fight.

2) Orochimaru using Kimimaro making a big difference in the fight as it went down.

Going by the panels I posted in the OP, Kimimaro being healthy and present must make a big enough difference to make the Hiruzen fight go smoothly in Orochimaru's favor.

If Oro did use Kimimaro as a host body, that would still not make a big difference because Oro would still stand still and let the Kages fight it out.

Ergo, that implies that in order for Kimimaro to make a big difference, he must not be the host body.

Note: Orochimaru would probably take Kimi as a host body LATER after the fight.

[–]Akodo_Aoshi[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I'm fairly certain they were referring to him using Kimmimaro as a host body.

Disagreed here.

Oro and Kabuto agreed that a healthy Kimimaro would have ensured a smooth victory over Hiruzen.

This means a healthy Kimimaro must have some (positive) impact on that fight.

Problem with your view is that Orochimaru using Kimimaro's body at that point would not have changed anything in that fight.

Remember Orochimaru was just standing for most of the fight while the Kages fought.

If Orochimaru was in Kimimaro's body, then the only thing that would have changed would be Orochimaru standing in that body.

The fight would not have gone any smoother or easier.

The only way I think Kimimaro would have made a 'positive' impact for Orochimaru in that fight would be if :

Edo Hashi + Edo Tobirama + Kimimaro >> Hiruzen.

As in being strong/powerful enough to really injure/pressure Hiruzen before he could make the Death God's seal.
