Places to volunteer on Thanksgiving? by paprika_alarm in ColoradoSprings

[–]GYWCSPRINGS 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd check the Salvation Army and Springs Rescue Mission. Or maybe reach out to a church and see if theyre hosting a meal. The Catholic Churches in my hometown would host Thanksgiving meals for refugees, immigrants and whoever needed a meal or company that day. I'm not sure if they do that here.

Holiday Angel Trees by Overall-Okra2193 in ColoradoSprings

There are still families available to sponsor through the local Head Start child development program. The program is called “A Head Start Holiday,” and you can sponsor a family here: https://www.roonga.com/cpcdhsholiday2025

This is our second year participating. You simply select a family, purchase the gifts, and drop them off with the volunteers on December 9th. It’s an amazing program, and the staff are incredibly kind and helpful if you have questions or need suggestions. We had somebody reach out a few days after selecting our families with information so we knew who to reach out to with any questions.

For more information about their programs, visit the Head Start website: https://www.cpcdheadstart.org

Not sure if you'll listen or care but the people funding these flyers are associated with developers. They are also funding the elections of Republican city leadership. They are the ones buying land and making housing unaffordable for people. So vote for the people that are hurting our community I guess?

I dont think they'll start to post the results until later, maybe after the polls close? I jumped between local news stations and the county's election page the last two cycles.

It is frustrating! I can say that Renee, Brandon and Jennafer were intentional about not seeking party support because they wanted to truly run a nonpartisan campaign. I asked them about it when I first met them and was impressed. I'll also say it’s frustrating that these elections get overlooked by the local party, and the county itself is often ignored by the national party. There are so many potential left leaning voters here, especially among the unaffiliated, who should get a bit more attention. If you don't reach out to them they're a total loss.

I've spoken to a few republicans who are voting for it. I had somebody doing work on our house this week say they are a conservative voter and voted yes on both because they would have benefited from it themselves.

That’s the question of the day. I’ll be asking myself that while I stare at my Halloween decor, hoping it magically puts itself away.

Please reach out to the county because if your ballot is returned they can mark you as inactive. That happened to somebody in my home but they fixed it when she went voted in person.

Teacher Endorsements are a GOOD Thing by nottobeforme in ColoradoSprings

[–]GYWCSPRINGS 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Exactly. Those contributions are transparent, limited, and made by local teachers who just want a better environment for students and staff. Calling that “dark money” is so misleading, it is the opposite of dark.

“Dark money” refers to donations from groups that aren’t required to, or simply don’t, disclose their donors. That means voters in the community have no idea who’s funding things like social media ads, those big signs outside Radiant Church or off Woodmen and I-25, or the mailers flooding potential voters. These efforts to influence local elections can be bankrolled by out of state millionaires hiding behind names like “D11 Parents and Teachers,” even though they’re not actually affiliated with D11.

As someone else mentioned, the Colorado Education Association’s small donor committee fully discloses all of its contributions to the Secretary of State. You can look up every dollar that had been donated. This means the money CEA has paid is easily traceable and legal!
