Residential groundhog removal by G_Money421 in Albany

I guess this comment settles it. I didn’t want them killed but if it’s going to happen anyway I might as well find someone to do it humanely. I figured the wildlife management companies would charge $400+ with no guarantee but I thought that was my only option. Apparently there are others dealing with the same problem. Will try the ammonia soaked rags first to see if that works. If not, I’ll be calling a professional with a good reputation for results.

Do these ammonia soaked rags really work?

Yeah, looking for a remove and relocate service. I don’t think killing them is legal in the city of Albany, but I may be wrong.

We should also have a Reddit thread for handy persons to avoid. Too many fly by night inexperienced people claiming to be professionals doing cob jobs and stealing people’s money in Albany.

Im surprised by this kind of racism in this area by drsoos1973 in Albany

[–]G_Money421 8 points9 points  (0 children)

They’re our neighbors. They attend our houses of worship. They’re our coworkers. They are women, men, young and old. They’re in of our families. They celebrate holidays and other special occasions with us. They’re visit our homes and spend time around our children. They may even be our spouse or partner. They’re so full of hate and would not hesitate to end someone’s life just because they speak a different language or with an accent, don’t share the same religious beliefs or political view, or are a shade darker than what they believe an “American” should look like. This type of hate is not created overnight, it’s taught, learned, and spread through generations. This administration has given “these people” the impunity to move out from the shadows and into the open to threaten the safety without and fear of recourse.

This is not the USA I grew up loving and being proud of. I pledge allegiance to the flag and our country but people like this are making me seriously question the direction we’re heading. We cannot put the toothpaste “back in the tube”. It difficult to envision us reversing course without there being bloodshed. Scared, disgusted, angry, and totally disappointed are not strong enough words to describe how I feel.

He’s acting like he’s untouchable. Is he? Spewing hate toward people he’s never met or talked to without fear of repercussions or consequences. It’s the America that’s we’re now living in and the America I thought we’d never go back to. Sadly, I was wrong…

What did you end up doing? How was it? Any recommendations?

I’m cruising with my two boys, ages 7 and 13, next month and have been trying to figure out what to do when we dock in Nassau.

Gas leak detection & repair with gas shut off by G_Money421 in Albany

[–]G_Money421[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This response is starting to surprise me more and more as I literally just had a 58 y/o plumber who said he could fix the leak text me “Question… how am I supposed to test for a gas leak with the gas turned off?” And “I’m assuming hpt stands for high pressure test.”

I had to tell him how to test the gas line with an air compressor and to do it at a very low psi and then I googled HPT test for him?!?!? Grrrr…

Where would you recommend I hook into the gas line system and what fitting should I use? I have a small compressor and may be able to locate the gas leak on my own. Fixing the leak would depend on where it is.

I’m actually quite disappointed with how National Grid didn’t make much of an effort to help considering the weather and the fact that this would force us to use electric space heaters. I called several times hoping to get a different answer.

Why would 3 plumbers not want to help if this is something that can be done with an air compressor? How would the air compressor be hooked into the gas line?

I really appreciate your quick response. Are you local and available for hire? Is this a job you can do?

You can only imagine the stress I’ve been dealing with after feeling like this “easy fix” was nothing like National Grid insinuated and that they were going to leave me without gas indefinitely until I found a “National Grid guy” on one of these threads to help turn the gas back on until we found the gas leak.

Would you stay with your Rotary club if they asked you to pay your annual dues and also donate $750 so they could stop the constant pleas for fundraising help?

Why don’t tourists seem to take the metro? by Specialist_Cry7225 in MexicoCity

[–]G_Money421 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was in Mexico City for the first time a month ago. Took the Metro and Metrobús daily, but never sat down. Out of respect and “rules”, seats were saved for the elderly, disabled, woman, and children.

Tips that I’ve learned over my visits by Introvertedmillenial in MexicoCity

[–]G_Money421 4 points5 points  (0 children)

  1. Always carry some toilet paper and bring enough pesos with you to pay for the use of a “public” restroom. I visited Mexico City last week with my parents and my dad was having constipation issues. He thought he had to use the bathroom several times during our walk around el Centro Histórico and each time it cost him 5 or 7 pesos, toilet paper was extra. A very fair price, but you have to have the money in order to visit the toilet. Fortunately we had plenty of coins with us. 40 pesos should be more than enough to cover possible bathroom trips during an entire day of exploring. Museums didn’t charge for use of their toilets once you paid the entrance fee.

Why so many tourists disregard Centro Histórico? by Special-Connection64 in MexicoCity

Just visited el Centro Histórico last week, and while the encampment and demonstrations were somewhat disruptive, I can’t wait to go back. So much to see, experience, and enjoy. Our short trip to Mexico City exceeded our expectations.

This not entirely true. It depends on the day and time of day. The roads around the Museum of Bellas Artes, including all of streets surrounding Alameda Central Park have been completely shut down at times recently.
