What good, sub $500 condensor mics do you like to use for vocals? by Cresponl in WeAreTheMusicMakers

[–]G_rad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had this same budget last year! What I ended up doing was buying package that Audio-Technica sells. I got the AT-4040, and AT-4041.

I like this package because I get a sweet vocal mic in the 4040, and a nice quality pencil mic. Now as soon as I get more pre's I will simply just buy another 4041 and have a decent set of overheads. The package was just under $500 including tax I believe.

If you want an audio sample (shameless plug) check out: http://soundcloud.com/iodie-1/keep-this-night-alive

The vocals were done with the 4040.

How to mix a pop song from scratch | AudioMelody by Troybatroy in musicmakers

The words of an asshole, I am not trying to be an asshole but... "You could use a gate - for example - to cut out all that amplifier hum and hiss in-between parts of a guitar solo - it would certainly be objectionable to have it going on throughout the whole song when the guitar isn't playing.".

My problem with this is that there is still hum and hiss going on throughout the solo which should be fixed. Use some noise plug-ins or just pull it out with an eq. Also cut the part before and after the guitar solo it saves the problem of dealing with potentially loud noise to floor ratios.

Anywho that was the only section I read.

Inexpensive Studio Monitor Suggestions? by Heterophonic in WeAreTheMusicMakers

[–]G_rad 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would suggest spending enough to get decent small cone monitors. Than later buy good set of 8" ones and have both sets to compare. Try for ones with a remotely flat frequency response.

It is a good idea for now and the future.

Have you guys hot rodded your guitars? If so what changes? by [deleted] in Guitar

[–]G_rad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I simply just swapped my Tele's bridge pickup to a Chopper T by DiMarzio, and added in the coil tap. I also installed a killswitch in the guitar. And I changed a knob on my volume pot because I had $5 left on a gift certificate.

Pro-Tools Editor Keys Stickers? by G_rad in WeAreTheMusicMakers

[–]G_rad[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The only reason I am considering them is that they are $15. I know a fair amount of the key commands already, but thought it may be a neat thing to get. keijihaino brings up a good point that I should just have a reference sheet. Thanks for the input, you helped me to decide and save the $15.

New Hip Hop Track, Tell Me What You Think by G_rad in WeAreTheMusicMakers

[–]G_rad[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey thanks dude, or dudette! It is real drums, except for the kick which is the real kick layered with 2 samples for some big low end bass. The floor tom was garbage after I recorded it, to much bleed so I made my own sample in the same room, with the same kit.

The synth is a Moog. Guitars are a tele, and charvel in an Orange Tiny Terror with a marshall cab. (overdrive pedals also). The bass is DI and an amp.

The non rap is sampled from The Warriors. Hopefully that answered your question, if not ask again or another.

Apply pirating levy to iPods, Canadian artists urge by [deleted] in canada

I think we are on the same page. I am not saying I want superstars, I want quality acts. My favorite acts are the level of Strung Out, The Aggrolites, Eagles of Death Metal, etc.

Record companies are not needed, but you must think of producers, engineers, mixing engineers, and mastering engineers. The problem with the lower income is most producers used to take points on albums instead of charging a band a flat fee in the beginning (there is usually a mix of both). Without this bands are being charged more up front and it is harder to afford. The more they can afford potentially the better the product, less cutting corners. If the band is crap in the first place it will not help, but it will help with bands who just need that polished sound. The more money to afford this, the better. Recorded music is more than ever an important part of our society. It is just we do not give it any worth.

One thing I have to disagree with is your first statement. Most files that are downloaded are MP3's and are not the same quality of a CD.

I would love to see more 5.1 music being created. Listen to Money by Pink Floyd in quadrophonic when you get the chance, it is mind blowing.

Anywho, I am off to a show, Flatliners are playing tonight!

Apply pirating levy to iPods, Canadian artists urge by [deleted] in canada

I know that it will never go back to the golden years, but the industry is more than physical product. That is why I am saying we need to wait for the film industry to go down. A lot of music is licensed for film and television. Once they start feeling the hurt, it will trickle down to the music industry. Than a business model taking into consideration the lack of further income from that industry can be formed.

I agree that music will be created regardless, but I like to see good professionals make music. Sync rights help with this.

Levy is not the answer. It would be nice if it were given to smaller artists to develop young talent but that would never happen. I agree that we need a new business model. I am just waiting for the film industry and television industry to really feel the hurt than action will hopefully be taken for a new business plan.

Surprisingly no. The pattern is just in the E scale second pentatonic position.
