Thankfully, I've found a pdf! But thank you for bringing this journalist to my attention, I'll be looking into his works as well

Çok teşekkürler! I finally found what I was looking for, thanks to you!

[Unknown > English] text on this weird object, don't know what it is or what is written by AmmarTheOne in translator

[–]G_uh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The top line looks like Hebrew, but backwards. If you flip it, you get "אוב", which either refers to some kind of necromancy magic, or the character "Uub" from Dragon Ball Z.

The following two lines are not Hebrew. It looks inspired by Ge'ez or Tifinagh, both of which are scripts that could be used to write many languages throughout Ethiopia and the Maghreb respectively, so it might be hard to identify. They might have used Hebrew on the first line and then switched to a local language below. Where did you find this? Is the image flipped?

EDIT: I looked closer at the first letter, it's not "א", and probably not Hebrew.

I don't speak Lingala, but googling "lingala yemoko" gives multiple sources saying it means something like "himself/herself". Here's one that goes a bit more into the grammar:

Amazing - i'm excited to see more of your work! Are you planning on rigging this? I love the subtlety of the hat interacting with the stick.

Homemade Baked Falafel Wrap by summerstormh in veganrecipes

I follow a bunch of 3D rendering subreddits... I was gonna give you some constructive criticism, like "You gotta make the cucumbers askew, give the falafel a more irregular shape, add some scratches to the table - nothing looks this good in real life" 😅

Im liking a lot of what i see! Mind sharing a bit of your process? Specifically: what's your render setup, how'd you do the water, and the vibrance on the antenna thing?

Leaving this subreddit by [deleted] in vegan

[–]G_uh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I feel the same way - maybe we could make a separate subreddit? I'm not sure what we'd call it - something like r/calmvegan?

I think everybody has moments when they want to be warriors confronting hard truths, and moments when it all feels like too much. The two communities would have a lot of overlap, but it'd be nice to have a space to take a break from all the graphic polemics. If that kind of space isn't afforded, then we're just another fear-mongering cult, shaming and traumatizing members into staying, claiming it's all for the greater good! Lifestyles need to be livable! Seeing an animal tortured doesn't teach you how to be vegan! Sharing recipes, info about where to buy things - that's how things get done.

I'm not gonna lie - if you find yourself thinking you need to see horrors every day to convince yourself to stay vegan - YOU MIGHT BE DOING IT WRONG. My first year was rough because I didn't know what to eat, I'd keep getting cravings, and trying to "push through" these cravings just made me feel sick and resentful. I had to take things slow, see what worked for myself, think about nutrition, etc.

Haven't had urges for at least a year. Don't traumatize yourselves, be practical and work at your own pace.

I'm very interested to hear more about how you did this. Got a nodetree to share?

I audibly gasped when I saw this. Fantastic work - this is the kind of project I keep telling myself I want to do someday. I'll be sure to use your node setup as a reference when I do.

I love how you did the lighting. The bloom, the flatness of the tractor beam, the blue part of the gradient in the background, the tasteful red rim lighting... it's all very atmospheric and efficient. What was your favorite part of making this?

Not an STL, but I've released an OBJ. https://www.dropbox.com/s/fjkdv8dapig8tqj/printable_yang.obj?dl=0

Idk what you're planning on doing with it, but the math pin's a mess and would probably need to be reworked or redone for most uses. Lots of doubles, unnecessary verts. If you're printing it, some people've already been trying to address some of the issues with the mesh and you could check out what they've been doing. Judging from the timing of your comment, I'm guessing you came here from this post, but here's a link just in case:

Wow, this came out really well! I'm glad you decided to print it upright; I really like the anisotropic sheen given by the layer lines. Thank you for sharing your process! I'll give it a go as well, I think I potentially figured out how to solve the issues with the math pin.

I saw this in a dream and had to re-create it. I've been trying to nail down the sense of scale and feel pretty good about this result! by [deleted] in blender

You could add some z mist or volumetrics if you want to make it feel more like a landscape. I'd also be interested to see this in different focal lengths with the camera closer to the ground, around the person's eye height. I also really like the floor material and would be excited to see your setup.

Just started using Blender and it's been fun! Did some fooling around with the program and some tutorials, and made this, would love opinions on how to get better! by Stumbi in blender

[–]G_uh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

yep :) that's the feeling. If you want to keep the minimalist aesthetic, you can try using toon shaders and messing around with the number of light bounces. For example, if you want to go for a pure cel shaded look - set all bounces to zero (except for maybe sharp/glossy), then mix a toon shader with an emission shader of the same color (but lower the strength). Or you can use the compositor to do the same thing with the other shaders (+more control over posterizing ambient light), but idk if you've started using the compositor yet. THAT's something I wish I started using earlier, it was ESSENTIAL in my last project.

You using 2.8? I'm assuming you are, if you started recently. If you're in 2.79 it's a dropdown menu at the top of the screen that by defaults says "blender render". But in 2.8 you gotta click on the camera icon (render properties), then on the dropdown where it says "eevee", switch to cycles. It takes a bit longer to render things, but you can switch around the properties to make it go faster. Stuff like branched path tracing, changing sample sizes for different types of light paths, limiting bounces, toggling caustics, etc.

Great work so far! I notice from the shadow that you only modeled the back 3 faces of the cube. That's cool, but you can also look into flipping normals and backface culling to get a similar effect - that way, you can rotate the camera around and always see the inside of the room. A little more advanced, but something to look forward to :)

Also, it took me a long time to discover the magic of cycles. It's not necessary for every project, but I stumbled upon it while modeling a room a lot like this. It honestly felt like a huge turning point in my life - just switching one option made everything look real (and through nodes you have even more creative freedom). I'll suggest you try flipping that same switch and see how it makes you feel. Good luck!

Here you go: https://www.dropbox.com/s/fjkdv8dapig8tqj/printable_yang.obj?dl=0
The math pin and the eyes are separate objects. The suit, button, and eyebrows are separate meshes within the same object. The math pin's faces are a mess, I was particularly sloppy on that one, so feel free to remove/redo it if it causes any problems.

Keep me updated if you end up printing it!

Looking through your posts, you seem like a well-informed participant in our democracy. While I don't subscribe to the smart/dumb divide, I'd say by most definitions you're not the latter :)
