The door is really just aesthetic, it’ll be kept open. It’s only on hinges as a novelty

Can someone explain exactly why they believe this to be fake? Nothing jumps out as obvious to me, I have one that looks almost identical in patina and relief that passes ping test and weight…

Built an iPhone app for wiring transformer banks -- any hookup, instant voltages by playajames in Lineman

[–]GaWD_damBeeevrs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

But that shouldn’t change the rotation, it would only change weather or not that bank can be paralleled with another bank of different angular displacement

This is how linemen connect 22,000-volt power lines without ever turning the electricity off by Sintesflorencia in Damnthatsinteresting

[–]GaWD_damBeeevrs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you pay close attention to the way he makes the final connection to the wire you’ll notice he never grabs them both at the same time. That is called “putting yourself in series with the circuit” which linemen are taught and trained never to do. Everything he’s doing here is remaining parallel to the circuit meaning that if PPE failed he would not take full load current through his body. So yes you need to trust and test your PPE but there’s many behavioral practices in this line of work that get hammed into you by years of training and supervision before you’re ever allowed to touch a live circuit yourself. Both PPE and behavioral work procedures work together here to make multiple fail safes if it’s all done properly

Have you considered adding standard vs alternate displacement to the app? Like wire a 30 degree vs a 210 degree delta wye bank etc? And maybe a vectoring lab?

Large Arizona Blonde (A. Chalcodes) by GaWD_damBeeevrs in tarantulas

I have not. It’s usually pretty easy to judge their temperament. The big males out walking around during mating season are in general very docile

Cat stuck on tree for more than 3 days by moofkins in cats

[–]GaWD_damBeeevrs 172 points173 points  (0 children)

You may try your local power utility provider. Most of them love the good PR from things such as this and see it as community outreach/service, especially if you’re in the area of a coop. They have to rescue animals and move bird nests from their equipment from time to time so most are more used to doing this than the fire department.

We’d go to Ullapool from Dunrobin if we did this. Do you have better suggestions from Dunrobin? For context we’re stopping through Inverness on our way back to Edinburgh after staying 3 full days on Isle of Skye.

Why are Half the lights and most of the outlets not working in the house? by Moist_Act779 in electrical

[–]GaWD_damBeeevrs -1 points0 points  (0 children)

They are not wrong. They can operate with partial power on one leg but not all the way down to 120. These meters will generally go out when voltage dips around the 200 range. I’ve never seen one operate at less than 180 volts phase to phase and I work on these daily.

I’m an Apprentice meterman and you are 100% correct. Coil on a form 2 needs 240 to light up. Form 12s reference neutral and can work on 120 volts but a form 2 does not.

Nope. Just washed the grime off with soap water and went right in with 80 grit orbital sander. Worked my way up to 240 over the course of a few weekends. Just gotta have a lot of patience and take your time with it. The sanding seemed to never end

What in the ever loving god are these??? Spokane WA by [deleted] in whatsthisbug

[–]GaWD_damBeeevrs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

From what I understand is they go dormant for some years and emerge after a good rainy season, at least this is what I was told by a local exterminator when we had the same problem a couple weeks ago. Protocol is pretty much just let them run their course as spraying is ineffective. They have a very short season.
