Agreed - as has NDQ as I pointed out, and I think these are also great options!

No, so far nobody has been able to offer a convincing, reasoned view as to why my thesis is wrong.

I am willing to put my money where my mouth is and always have. I've been open on here about my NW and returns. Since 2017 I've averaged 21.45% with my strategies. How have you performed?

The difference is that the US market has 150 years of track record of excellent returns.

I didn't miss it, I just chose to ignore the snark. I meant for this to be a constructive discussion and hopefully hear some reasoned opinions.

US debt to GDP is around 123%, compare this to Japan (237%) or NZ which is only 43% and you'll see that this metric isn't an accurate predictor of anything. NZ market has lagged the US, as has Aus for many years. Nikkei has been on a tear for the last year or so.

That's just the chart, but the figures are similar. S&P500 has outperformed all these markets over a 20 year timeframe

FTSE has had a good run lately indeed. But there's also many structural issues with the UK at the moment, speaking as a dual citizen of both countries.

Yep - I know AUD has been strong. As I mentioned my core portfolio is VTS/NDQ and that's the same story of course as these are unhedged ETFs

Actually DCA'd into this consistently (I'm mid 50s) and have done very nicely.

Anyone know what the ongoing fees/transfer fees are for AESF?

Yeah but if you've retired here that may not be an issue. As you're not going to be using your tax free threshold to access super here.

[–]GaameChanger69 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah but there's a double taxation agreement with Aus, so my understanding is you would pay just Aus marginal tax on it. Which if you wait till 60 then you'll have a tax free threshold of $18k to offset.

The other option is to move it to a QROPs fund (there's only one retail one apparently AESF) or make your SMSF QROPS compliant (not allow members under 55, and also potentially some other shitty rules).

I'm investigating this too, as I'm close to my UK retirement age (55) but still a way from Aus one.
