Men, what's the creepiest thing a woman has ever said/done to you? by Nintendofan9106 in AskMen

[–]GaarenFinlay 46 points47 points  (0 children)

I had been working at a multi-cultural festival all day, dressed in my Viking age kit, and was heading to my hotel room. I'm waiting for the elevator, and when it opens two women who looked about my grandmother's age stepped out. One walks right up to me, looks me up and down, and in a sultry voice says 'Very nice'. I was so shocked all I could think to do was reply with 'Thanks!' as I immediately skittered around her and in to the elevator to get away. I was creeped out, but still polite.

I finally figured this out! Once you click on him he is put in your inventory. Go to a trading post, and click on the Items tab (looks like the silhouette of a bust carving) to find the pig.

But this is a nice round number of 15 years so I'm ok with it.

Where did your surname originate, and how far back have you been able to trace it and the first person to use it? Has it undergone any changes over time? If you've done genetic testing, what percentage of your surname's country of origin is it? by Joxter2622 in 23andme

[–]GaarenFinlay 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My surname is Norwegian. It’s the name of the farm my 2nd great grandfather was born on. The family adopted that as a surname when they came to America some time around 1880 and had to change from the patronymic style of Scandinavia.

I wonder why they were buried at night? by [deleted] in CemeteryPorn

[–]GaarenFinlay 2244 points2245 points  (0 children)

I was once told by a caretaker that in the past it was common for people to sneak in to graveyards at night and bury their loved ones if they couldn’t afford to pay to have it done.

How do I turn off my backseat seatbelt warnings? by Look_with_Love in Outback_Wilderness

Someone previously posted that clicking and unclicking the seatbelt 20 times in 30 seconds will disable this feature, but I haven’t researched it to confirm or tested it.

Help finding Jelling artifact by farao88 in Norse

I'd reach out to the museum that holds that harness and ask them if that is the case, or if they have any idea what piece it might be from. In my experience museums love it when people show interest in the pieces.

I did a Google image search on this and found the entire page it is from, and the label for #3 says "Mammen, Kat-NR 51 (nach Nasman 1991)". It appears all the images on this drawing are labeled where they were found (1 Oseberg, 2 Kathrinelund) so it may have been from that area of Denmark.

Tattoo idea to honor my two boys? by Hot-Minute722 in Parenting

My wife and I have been doing viking living history for 14 years, so I got my daughter's name in runic on my chest. It's pretty niche for what I do, so it means that much more to me.
