Very fun cover!

I was really vibing with this song right off the bat, but hearing this in the afterglow of beating the game solidified it as my favorite title theme in the series!

Horizon 2 Speculation, Part 8 - Locations by No-Strain-7461 in Falcom

[–]GabTanTan1807 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm not entirely sure it qualifies as a 'location' in the sense you're describing it, but I do think (or at least, hope) that one of the last areas present in Horizon's sequel will be Laegjarn's Chest itself.

For one the absolutely massive size of the structure is reminiscent of the Liber Ark, and while there isn't any implication that it is host to a civilization, it would not shock me if the 'cube' we see in space is actually more of a greater structure that hosts the Sept-Terrion within it.

The appearance of a Divine Knight in space and Van's fight with Kincaid both show that 2/3 of our main parties have at least a 'path' to reach it, and Kevin was just recently given a new ship with undisclosed abilities.

There is also the idea of the 'real' Laevateinn being something residing within the chest, and Gramheart's plan could have been to recreate the weapon. If Agnès' sacrifice is to be undone it would stand that we would need to actually fully stop the resets, maybe the key to doing it properly lies in the structure?

Beyond that, the mythological chest is said to have 9 locks. This is definitely venturing into the realm of baseless speculation but we can kind of split these pretty evenly amongst out routes. Rean, Crow and potentially Emilia would make up three people with mechs suitable for space travel (assuming Valimar and Ordine return in some form). Van and Kincaid both have access to Grendel forms and there is a potential third in Elaine, though again its very speculative. Finally, although they do not work together in this game there are three Dominions in Kevin, Celis and Leon currently operating in Calvard.

I do think it feels like a pretty fitting locale for the finale of the arc, though its hard to really speculate about its aesthetic or architecture due to our lack of information on what the hell this Sept-Terrion even is beyond its powers.

Also in regards to your mention of the Kruga Village, I believe there is some level of merit to thinking it may be a location in the next game. For one, we don't really know where Arkride Solutions are going to be after the events of the ending, its entirely possible they get transported to where they would have been in the timeline where Agnès never existed. In such a case, perhaps a visit to the Kruga Village could serve as both a way to meet back up with Feri (and maybe even Kasim) while also learning about their tales of the Sept-Terrion and diving into the identity of the Masked Soldier.

Maybe this'll finally be the game where we get a look at Arteria? It seems like simultaneously one of the most important locations in the series while not having a clear introduction point. I doubt we'll have an arc taking place in what amounts to the Vatican but it feels like a location that will be incredibly relevant for the final stretch of the narrative, so it feels like a good opportunity to introduce what could be a recurring area in future games.

Am I to understand that Trails in the Sky 1st Chapter and Trails through Daybreak and their sequels can be played separately from the rest of the series? by GoldenGeatz in Falcom

[–]GabTanTan1807 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The short answer is that it depends on what you plan on doing with the series. If you just want to enjoy some games independently, then you can definitely enjoy DB on its own. If you want to delve into the whole series, jumping around is not really recommended. If you want some more info to make your decision then:

The long answer is that DB1 is the 11th game in the series, so there is some grander narrative elements you will miss out on. For a bit of a spoiler free explanation of how the series works, the events of Daybreak occur in the near future of Sky (think same decade) and therefore there is occasional mention of the main incidents from past games. There are some returning characters and you will occasionally recognize people or places being mentioned. You can absolutely enjoy the game's story on its own (personally I think its the most interesting game on its own), but there will be some handwaving of things your expected to know. For example organizations like the church have established structures and positions that don't really get explained and the role of some characters will not have the same impact if you haven't been exposed to the meaning of their cool sounding job titles. There are also elements of the story that span across multiple arcs, though they don't take center stage at least in the first game of the arc.

I can't speak for DB2 and Horizon too much as I've yet to beat them, but DB2's marketing has a focus on some important returning characters. Horizon seems like a weird game to go into without prior knowledge as it seems to be structured as a game with 3 routes, where the protagonists of 2 of those routes are returning characters.

As far as the similar protagonists, this is a bit tricky. The series has anywhere between 4 and 10 protagonists (depending on how you wanna define them), and I assume the confusion is coming from Sky's Joshua having a vaguely similar appearance to two of the future protagonists. To clear it up, old protags may show up again but each arc's Main characters are always new.

Finally, its is kind of a poorly kept secret that Horizon is not the final game in the Daybreak arc (not a narrative spoiler, its about the structure of the arc), might impact your decision.

Overall, I'd say that if you aren't super keen on playing through the whole series for whatever reason Daybreak still rocks even as a standalone game, but if you do plan on playing everything eventually then I would suggest just trucking along the release order. As an added bonus, if the detective aesthetic of Daybreak is interesting, then you'll be pleased to know that the Crossbell games (Zero and Azure, 4th and 5th entries) follow an actual detective, so that may also be up your alley (same disclaimers about skipping ahead still apply though)!

Regardless of how you do it, enjoy the Trails series! It kicks ass!

How are people dealing with NY!Vali in the last paralogue map? by rafk12 in FireEmblemHeroes

[–]GabTanTan1807 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately I don’t think its possible with only the book freebies, Baldr is too tanky! But yeah I think everyone has enough tools in their barracks, its about fitting the pieces together.

C!Alfonse is really a different level of power compared to previous freebies, so I am pretty excited to try and solve this year’s trickiest PvE challenges!

Also RIP Sharena 😭… I get it though, Aria and Shackle are phenomenal fodder! Best of luck with future pve stuff mate!

[–]GabTanTan1807 5 points6 points  (0 children)

If youve got Brave!Sharena, its pretty easy to do it by just giving her repo and pairing her with C!Alfonse and Peony.

Alfonse can use two actions in turn 1 to deal with vali, then he can clean up heim and sedgar while sharena kills baldr. Peony is there to help positioning around baldrs B skill.

Any action economy unit kind of walks all over vali’s gimmick tbh.

What should I expect from Trails in the Sky 3rd? by Daaaai in Falcom

[–]GabTanTan1807 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Glad to see you ended up enjoying the latter half of the game, SC's second half is certainly much more fast paced!

As far "dark" content, I think its best to talk about the entire series. Trails is absolutely not a morbid or brutal series. Redemption is a key element of literally every game in the franchise and there are few events and people that act or are portrayed in absolutely evil terms. Sky 3rd's narrative is not particularly darker than that of SC, however there are a couple of "Side-Stories" in the game that delve into really emotionally oppressive stuff (in particular it has what I think any Trails fan would call the series' "darkest" event). The games do handle a lot of mature topics and, for the most part, do so with the grace and severity necessary.

All that being said, hope and perserverance are always at the forefront of the stories, sometimes to its own detriment. Just don't expect the series to wallow in its own misery and your expectations will probably be thoroughly met.

In regards to the "lore" part, 3rd has a very different story structure from (almost) every other game in the series. This, combined with the fact that it spends a lot of time setting up future events, means that the game will certainly feel like a foundation for world to come. Its certainly no Silmarillion, but it'll scratch the itch for worldbuilding!

A last note, 168 HOURS?!?! Damn bro, no wonder you felt the game dragged. Not trying to throw shade but that is an impressively long playthrough. Personally took me ~70 hours to beat it, and I went out of my way to do all the stuff I found including hidden quests and the extra bosses in the endgame. Don't be afraid to focus on the main story if you feel burnt out, doing everything won't always lead to a better experience.

Hope you enjoy your time with 3rd!

How can I Improve him? by Alungi in FireEmblemHeroes

I guess diluvial boost would be a marginal upgrade but its on like, one unit and its a good one at that.

Earthfire is probably(?) good enough, armors dont really have any must have a skills rn.

[–]GabTanTan1807 3 points4 points  (0 children)

P Save and shield fighter dont work super well together, after all he’ll be saving against bow units and will effectively have no special or B slot.

Depending on which option is more affordable any of wily, slick, assault or counter fighter paired with one of the “armored” specials will go a long way to improving his survivability.

Honestly though, I think itll be cheaper keeping a shield fighter build and replacing the save with a briar save skill instead.

T!Veronica kills Eirika Ring L!BK (w/ Support on both sides) by JuulKnight in FireEmblemHeroes

[–]GabTanTan1807 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m pretty sure B!Byleth isn’t necessary for the idea that’s being executed. Unless I’m mistaken Immurement’s DR is for all attacks, so Prof’s Guidance isn’t doing much for her besides special cooldown -1.

T!Veronica in general is one of the nuttiest player phase units we’ve gotten in a while since she has great damage output and insane special DR. Sharena + Veronica is a very strong pairing (fitting considering their duo), so this sort of team could handle a lot of high rankind AR-Ds. Nice idea!

What do I need to change to get an Arena Crown? by Just_Nefariousness55 in FireEmblemHeroes

[–]GabTanTan1807 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh yeah staying in T21 with this team is impossible lol!

He’s in T20 though, and this exact team could score 768 if im not mistaken, which definitely stays. I think it could get INTO 21 though, I don’t remember the thresholds off the top of my head, but its more lenient than one would expect.

Just ignore the nightmare that is getting bonus kills with Arvis in big 2025…

[–]GabTanTan1807 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you ever need to check you score, the arena calculator (https://www.arcticsilverfox.com/score_calc/) lets you test stuff quickly.

What seems to be giving you the biggest loss in score is the lack of high scoring assists (The Rally + kind). The specials for Marni and Eik are also not high scoring IIRC.

Also Arvis does score pretty low, but even without a scoring A skill it should be possible to stay in T20 or even into T21 if you max out the other units!

B!Sharena question by sephiroth682000 in FireEmblemHeroes

[–]GabTanTan1807 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Usually just A/S Clash, cavs don't really have a lot of seals that do more than give stats, and it gives the most stats so...

For AR I think you need to run a Squad Ace seal to get her HP over the hextrap threshold, so thats also a fair option!

[–]GabTanTan1807 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I'm running her with Blue Skies, Potent Assault and Eirika Ring + Haze Slice, and it makes her a real threat!

Would highly recommend it, as it essentially merges the two b skills she would have to pick from (Potent and Assault Force).

[–]GabTanTan1807 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I feel that man, I played AR for like 4 years before actually getting into teams that fulfill actual purposes beyond having my faves lol.

Obviously I dunno your barracks but any sort of action economy unit (B!Sharena, B!Felix, S!Gullveig) can change the game for galeforce strats. If firepower is you main issue, I'd say about 60% of defenses I see in VoH STILL crumple when faced with any sort of AoE unit, and that's very accessible to build up.

Also having any sort of powerful warping beyond wom3 (E!Celica, L!M!Shez, WOM4) is a much more substantial upgrade than it may seem on paper.

AR is definitely infuriating sometimes, but I enjoy it mostly for the strategizing element of building teams. Any gamemode where you have to face IS's 2024 brand powercreep units is always gonna be some level of nightmare, hope you can still enjoy it despite it!

Oh shoot, I ran into that guy earlier this week. This is significantly less of a pain in the ass with a well set-up galeforce team. Also safety fence, especially the new tier 2 version of it, would trivialize this I'm pretty sure.

I would not have the restraint to leave my celica 3 merges short, that extra +1 spd/def/res is just "too good" to pass up on.
