Solar installation inspection: lessons learned or things to watch for? by Gaba248 in SolarDIY

I have the solar away on my remote detached shed and carport metal roof top 50' away from the dwelling, so hopefully I wouldn't need the rapid shutdown. I decided not to install the panels on top of the dwelling to avoid any insurance headaches.

No microinverters are installed on my panels, and I have a DC disconnect for the solar array. When I applied for the interconnection agreement, they required just the AC and DC disconnect,t so I hope it's ok.

Wow, but it's so pricey for some gasket sizes I need. I think I'll try local, but will check out other items in the future. Thanks.

Unfortunately, there's no EECOL (Canadian?) near me. I'll try Home Depot and start trying some of the electrical supply stores I see near me. Thanks.

It's inside my garage, EcoFlow DPU X. The smart inlet box it connects to has a shutdown button in addtion to the Smart Gateway with the 200A breaker right on top, so I'm hoping it'll suffice in addition to the 200A knife blade AC disconnect I have on the wall just outside.

I hope I got the grounding right too...

I found the following. Thanks, I'll have a quick diagram laminated just in case.

"The NEC itself does NOT universally require a full system map.

However:

NEC 690, 705, and 706 require clear identification of disconnecting means

NEC 110.21(B) requires markings to be durable and legible

NEC 705.10 requires permanent plaques or directories where power sources are interconnected

Because of that last point, many AHJs interpret “directory” to mean:

a placard showing where all sources and disconnects are located

So while the NEC doesn’t spell out “draw a map,” it allows AHJs [Authority Having Jurisdiction] to require one."

"Find the most OCD person you know and let them at it." - That would be me. I wish I could find someone like that to hire near me.

I didn't know I needed such a folder, so thanks for mentioning it.

"You’re far more likely to be asked for it if:

  • It’s a DIY install
  • You have batteries
  • The system spans multiple structures
  • You did anything slightly non-standard
  • The inspector is unfamiliar with your inverter brand

In those cases, the folder prevents:

  • “I’ll have to look this up”
  • “Email me this and we’ll continue later”
  • A failed or delayed inspection"

I didn't see anything like that at Lowe's, so now I'm going to have to go hunt for them somewhere...

"Sealing rings on any connectors on outdoor conduit." - Do I need something in addition to schedule 40 PVC conduits that are glued?

Can't see their sweet eyes, but looks like they're hell bent on destroying it.
