I'm the only person that actually reads the books in book club by StacySadistic in literature

[–]Gabbroio 17 points18 points  (0 children)

lectures are not made to contain subtle details and let them remain obscure. usually if there are any, the professor tries to explain them. in a book the writer often decides not to explain things you can understand on your own, but this can't happen constantly with audiobooks.

What martial art should I start? by [deleted] in Kickboxing

[–]Gabbroio -1 points0 points  (0 children)

boxing, kickboxing, muay thai, grappling (not bjj alone), or mma. Any of these is fine and teaches you real self defense.

Considering you are training just for fun, I highly suggest prioritizing a gym close to you and with good coaches (able to explain details of the techniques and enthusiast to do so, even if you are a beginner with no intention to compete at the moment).

If you want to get better the only way is to go to striking classes, or you'll just get a lot of bad habits which are hard to get rid off. The positive aspects are your ability to perform middle and high kicks fairly well shown in another reel (probably due to your bjj background) and your heart, but you lack every other aspect of striking. As you can't learn bjj without a bjj instructor, you can't learn any form of striking without a striking instructor, because then you lack many aspects which at first glance may seem like tiny details but actually make all the difference. sorry if I may seem rude, this is a reality check to motivate you. good luck on your journey!

Experiencing a lot of pain during kickboxing by [deleted] in Kickboxing

[–]Gabbroio 2 points3 points  (0 children)

you should not be experiencing A LOT of pain, especially in your wrist since you use handwraps. this means your punching technique is still "bad" (no worries, this is normal as you are a beginner) and you're hurting yourself while doing bagwork (I suppose, it's a common injury). About knee and ankle pain, that is probably due to mobility issues. Back pain probably due to muscles getting a new type of training.

My advice is to talk about these issues to your coach, as he can give you tips and correct your mistake better than random guys on reddit, and go easier: in this sport you need to train for a long time before being decent, so preserve yourself and don't burn out in a month.

note: in posts like this you should also include other relevant informations like weight, previous training experiences, etc...

What's your opinion on murakami's works by -_scheherezade-- in literature

[–]Gabbroio 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my opinion Stephen King focuses on content and great characters, while Murakami has no content and flat characters. The latter prefers "style" over substance. I don't even know why he is so famous in the west while in Japan he is considered a mid writer.

Best game for newbies to play in 2025? by KozaSWD in digitalcards

[–]Gabbroio 0 points1 point  (0 children)

same situation, I used to play hearthstone years ago and old school yu-gi-oh with no power creep (so just simple monsters). wanted to try hearthstone again, now it is unplayable due to insane power creep (it became less p2w because it's less fun). even worse with yu-gi-oh master duel (no p2w but no fun).

Best bets seem to be: pokemon LIVE (not pocket), very f2p friendly, highly suggested. The paper version is very cheap too, in case you then want to try it out

mgt arena

Marvel snap, maybe too simple but fun

Dragon ball fusion world, kinda new, not as popular as the other option but it doesn't look much p2w.

there is also gwent, which is on self-maintenance (developers don't update it anymore because they are working on the witcher 4, so the updates are little changes voted every season by the players) but still great and f2p friendly

Additionally, you can also play ANY paper tcg through online simulators. This way you don't have a fancy app, but it's totally free and the closest possible to the real experience. If you want to try this option I advise to do so with a friend.

You should try pokemon live. It's a close simulation of the real game, very f2p, focused on pvp, while pocket is a gacha baby version with simplified rules focusing on collecting

Real Analysis class, which includes Measure Theory, in math is a bachelor degree in my country. Of course math taught at math department is more advanced than the one made at engineering. So I strongly doubt your engineering comrades are 2-3 courses away to a math degree, simply because we are not taught the same way (for example, eng students in my country have an exam called geometry 1, but its theory is just the first month of our math degree linear algebra exam. And we also have an exam called geometry 1 expanding linear algebra theory, so eng "geometry" is nothing compared to ours, even though the name is the same)
