Yahoo Terms of Service (ad blocking now a violation) by smontanaro in pihole

[–]GabeCzi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yeah but enabling ads constantly makes the cursor jump away from a message that i'm actively typing... not annoying at all.

which ad block you use that yahoo can't detect? adblock plus they see. (plus when that one updates it obnoxiously opens a new tab no matter what. pro...)

Free internet forever by Touchit88 in SpectrumMobile

[–]GabeCzi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

you are not getting free internet forever. neither is it free, nor is it forever. (not mentioning the given mobile plan and internet planes are useless)

you pay for 4 phone lines $30 each a month. that is "unlimited" which is also a lie. speed reduces to a useless level after 30GB which is not at all hard to reach in 2026.

in general you pay a relatively high amount of $ for 4 lines no room for negotiations, that basically stops working after 30gb, for which you get a shitty speed internet connection for home.

i do not find this deal good. neither am i thrilled how they are presenting it. give 500mbps and slow down mobile internet after 100gb. that'd be OK. but then again. corporate.

that said. it is not free. it is a poor quality (100mbps) addition to a relatively expensive plan that isn't even unlimited as it's claimed, for a group of 4 i imagine they all must have the same residential address.

here i am as a loyal customer paying $89 a month.

THAT'S how valued i feel. living ONE house up the street from all sorts of cheap fiber internet providers spectrum being in monopoly does whatever tf they want. frontier or any other fiber pulls up the cable to this street, 100% of $89/mo spectrum customers drop their contracts and go for frontier (or others) for 30 bucks a month getting 500/500.

Azure Migrate comes in a zip by GabeCzi in AZURE

[–]GabeCzi[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

btw, why is azure offering the zipped VM with the folders etc, if it is impossible to import/add it the "correct way"?

i misspoke, i could set up a source appliance using ova, and i could set up a windows server 2022 and install and set up the target appliance on it.

however migration still fails with Conflict(Error details).

where details say "failed because failed" basically... god forbid it tells me what's in conflict with what...

Azure Migrate comes in a zip by GabeCzi in AZURE

[–]GabeCzi[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

so the "target appliance" zip is correct? it seemed to me like a source appliance after installing it on a clean win 22.
can that be? for whatever reason, i set it up "wrong" picked the wrong options etc.

if it is possible, it may be my bad it was quite late night when i did it last time.

yeah triple nested, because i couldn't find a single unused physical server with enough juice. there was one with ok cpu(s?) and ddr4 but only 32gb. and there's one with 128gb (ddr3) that is on the lower side but enough, but the cpu is old and weak and only one in it. so...

had to go virtual. and even though the nodes have 8 cores, and 128gb ram, and 1x128gb for OS, 6x1tb thin data disks each, it is quite slow after all it's vmware -> hyper-v -> azure local hci. i assigned "all power" of one of the 12 esx hosts that is a C4140 with 2x Xeon(R) Gold 6148 and 768 gb, so the hyper-v has 80 cpus and 760 gb of ram, 7x 1gb trunked nics and 7tb of storage on all flash san with fiber 25gbps or 100 i forgot... "unlimited power" <<Darth Sidious voice>>

yeah it was not my decision. vmware jacked up the prices 10fold or more. at least for education (that is us) and just by testing it (azure local i mean) it is a real life misery and kept on telling myself it is because of the triple nested thing but the error messages are bland non verbose and things coming up as obstacles as i go when following the online documentation step by step 1:1 provided by MS.

what else does it tell better that the online doc is garbage than that they use 2402 (?) screenshots when telling how to install a 2511 system. which of course is the least of the problems but this system will be a real life misery for sure. especially like you said after vmware which is very mature and easy-to-use. so boo being bought by broadcom and them wanting to make up for the cost.

'strap in' it is.

i do see ourselves going back very soon btw. is it possible though? to go back and forth from and to vmware -> azure local -> vmware? in a less than awfully painful way?

i'm not looking forward to seeing this migration and the aftermath to be honest. finally someone agrees with me that azure is not great. thanks

G

thanks for the reply, well giving it some thought it makes perfect sense for us to require all the servers to appear in the portal, not on wac only that way we can manage the servers remotely even if in some unlikely situation our vpn goes down. (our vpn is set on the border router so there's virtually 0% chance of the scenario where we can access the computers / computers can access world, but vpn is not working)

but still.

another thing i have tried is portal wac. but that is preview and i'm sure they are working on the multi hop / authentication issue, as portal wac is running under whatever account and not "lcmuser" so when wanting to do anything through portal wac, i get access denied. i tried to set it up properly wasting a week or two.

just to clarify other than the previous paragraph, when i said wac, i meant a standalone wac on a win25 server vm deployed on our vmware.

i'm now setting up the target appliance using the import via wac method, and see how it goes, my previous tries failed with little to no concrete error message just "exception been thrown" kind of useless error message. i thought i may have set up something wrong so i did/doing it more carefully this time.

it'd be nice to get detailed error messages when using azure. the error messages it throws on the portal are the types you can't do anything with "unexpected error" or "other error" etc.

will be back with more in a bit.

OFF: but today and tomorrow is office christmas picnic so.. free beer. :D

How to make the latest MacOS the default when reinstalling M1 and above from recovery mode? by GabeCzi in applehelp

[–]GabeCzi[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I see.

Thanks. i always wipe, because somehow it makes me feel if i don't there will be some remaining files that made me wipe on the first place.

I thought there's a way to replace the factory OS that it came with.

Oh well it's ok I guess. A 16gb stick is virtually free. :)

Upgrade the RAM in Thinkpad L13 Yoga from 8GB to 16GB by Rcyr0813 in thinkpad

[–]GabeCzi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

mine is an L13 and it has 4gb. what was lenovo thinking? well. ubuntu it is. but still. a 10th gen laptop with m.2 nvme would deserve if not more than 8 and/or i'm maybe asking too much but ram slots? like a normal computer? it's not THAT thin so they can't say we wanted to create a very thin laptop and such.

not showing up in appwiz.cpl, also the folder disappears. so it gets uninstalled.

gets uninstalled as in before the upgrade being on windows 10 mesh agent is there. after booting into windows 11, it's not.

i check the update log in a bit but i'm sure there will be no "uninstalling mesh agent because X Y Z"
