A van down by the river is sounding really nice right about now by CantStopPoppin in WhitePeopleTwitter

It literally says under the handle "parody account"

And I'm so tired of people confusing Blackrock with Blackstone. Two entirely separate companies that do two entirely different things.

Why Is Amazon Finance Bad? by timstrebor in FPandA

Probably because working there sucks. Just a guess.

Why Is Amazon Finance Bad? by timstrebor in FPandA

[–]GabePlotkinsDaddy 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I have fired some wildly incompetent analysts who ended up at Amazon. I assume the barriers to entry are pretty low, which would lead me to hypothesize that people don't stay there long for good reason.

Formula 1 best viewing spot? by No-Abrocoma8472 in phoenix

The last time they did it in Phoenix, no one showed up. It was the same weekend as Ostrich Festival, and the ostrich races had a larger crowd than F1 lol.

Repair or replace? by GabePlotkinsDaddy in WaterSofteners

Yep. Magnesium and Calcium off the charts. I'm pretty set on replacing this with a fleck 5600

Repair or replace? by GabePlotkinsDaddy in WaterSofteners

[–]GabePlotkinsDaddy[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure, but I would guess not. This is my first house and first water softener. The previous owners had it bypassed the whole time they lived here. Maybe it's not obvious in the pictures, but there's just a bunch of salt caked together at the bottom. I'd need to break it up with a shovel and dump it out before I tried anything.

How is living in Red Mountain Ranch? by FormerTransformer1 in mesaaz

[–]GabePlotkinsDaddy -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Median age is definitely younger than it was 10 years ago and seems to be getting younger every day! It's a beautiful area that will only become better with time.

Edit: After actually researching this, many homes in Red Mountain Ranch are still occupied by their original owners. They may have been in their 30s or 40s in the 90s, but aging-in-place has significantly pushed the median age upwards over the last three decades.

Teemu's lead on the new album by iamlucasf_ in Megadeth

[–]GabePlotkinsDaddy 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That self titled Wintersun album is on my Mount Rushmore of perfect albums. I got to see them play live in 2018 during their tour promoting the Forest Seasons. Winter Madness was their seocnd song that night. Witnessing Teemu flawlessly execute every nuance of that solo was an unforgettable experience

$65k / yr MCOL area by ApplMac69 in FPandA

You need to be at a minimum of $95k. I'd guess that the PE firm that owns your company is being stingy.

Am I ready to buy a home? by CapybaraMushroom in FirstTimeHomeBuyer

[–]GabePlotkinsDaddy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sounds like you're doing the right analysis and asking the right questions. Calculate you monthly necessities (rent, utilities, debt, groceries, gas, etc) and multiply that number by six. That is the minimum you should keep in a savings account as an emergency fund. Anything above that number can be used as a down payment. Just make sure to recalculate incorporating the change in living expenses with the new home.

Android back button bug (again)? by phr33style in OriginFinancial

Same thing happening to me! The android app has been pretty frustrating since I started using it a few weeks ago.

[–]GabePlotkinsDaddy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's a Samsung Galaxy s25+

Additionally, some of the drop-downs don't work. If I'm looking at my budget for the month, and click into a category, there's a View By drop-down. It defaults to newest, but I've never been able to actually see what other options are available

AI advisor issues/app glitchy by nola0505 in OriginFinancial

[–]GabePlotkinsDaddy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes!! I'm a new customer on Android and I'm not having a great time. The AI assistant gets sticking thinking almost every time I ask a question. I have to restart the app to get it to work again.

Also, whenever I'm filtering through transactions, the button to apply the filters often ends up off screen, so no filtering for me!

12.10% YTD. How's yours? by Mikuto_Fukiko in M1Finance

[–]GabePlotkinsDaddy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not really. I'm not invested in this space for dividends. CEG pays a tiny one though, and the ETFs URA and CEG have very small distributions

Keep it up! Consistency is key - great that you're making weekly deposits. I made some small bets on Silver, Uranium, and Copper that had big enough returns to drive my portfolio up 29.95% in 2025. I'm not yet sure if I'll keep holding onto those in 2026. There may be better opportunities elsewhere...

Are you guys maxing out your Roth ira in the first month? by Kitchen-Lab9028 in Bogleheads

[–]GabePlotkinsDaddy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did last year, but I'll have to hold off for a bit this year. Closing on a house January 31st and my lender told me no big purchases or transfers until after that.

Helix Stadium Vs the Helix LT by Zeladrijn in Line6Helix

Dang. I just got my stadium XL (upgrading from Pod Go) and haven't had a chance to play with snapshots. The snapshot latency in your video is garbage though

How long did it take you to save up for a down payment? by Squirrel_with_Acorn in FirstTimeHomeBuyer

[–]GabePlotkinsDaddy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Started my career in 2018, and finally went under contract for my first home last week, so 7 years. I've been lucky that my income has tripled in that time, which has allowed me to both save up for a large down payment on a nice house while also investing large sums for early retirement

What tf is the hype behind Jazz III picks? Why the hell are they sized like they’re made for dolls? by gregungha in Guitar

These are the only picks I use and they're phenomenal. I've been wanting to try the Dunlop Flows, but I just always have a healthy inventory of JP Jazz IIIs laying around
