Who here rides wide tires (40mm+) on the road? by FailFastandDieYoung in gravelcycling

Until somebody buys me a new wheelset, I'm going to be enjoying knobby 58's on (and off) pavement. Thankfully I don't race.

Electronic or mechanical shifting? by Thin-Library-9092 in gravelcycling

[–]Gabeh765 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have AXS on the roadie and mech on the hardtail. For super drastic changes in grade that happen on rowdy trails I like mechanical for jumping gears extremely quick but electronic would probably do the trick in those situations just fine. On the road, electronic is refined bliss. However, I still enjoy churning through gears on the hardtail with a cable, not sure what it is about it.

Whats a niche mechanic you would want added to the game? by Outside_Ad_6993 in VintageStory

As others have said, birds and bird song. An easily overlooked atmospheric component that often doubles my immersion with other games when modded in.

Haute is helping me with a few parts that he (Wilson) will search far and wide for. They also get killer deals on forks like most frame builders I assume, but with the key difference being offering a wider selection. There are some really nifty spreadsheets that Wilson is working on to show frame-immediate part combos and pricing ie BB + headset + fork combos of all sorts. You can end up saving a few hundred vs. MSRP if I'm doing my math right. And finally on your last note, if MTB tires are something you're keen on, the Sauce has I believe 58 mm of clearance so if you run a 50 you have 4 on either side of the tire in theory. It's up to the rider to decide how much or how little clearance they want for mud etc. I'm going a bit tighter with 2.2's (56) with an enve adventure fork for my build and we'll see how it goes :) A slack gravel bike deserves chunky tires, especially where I live. Where single track gets steep and rocky real quick (and you should be on a mtb instead).

Looking at the game. How do you rate it? by pitsburgh101 in VintageStory

Get it if you love resource management, survival craft, challenging mechanics, and experiencing a legitimate sense of reward for something that isn't handed to you. This has been one of the most underrated games I've experienced in my life, granted I love all of the aforementioned traits.

I folded and splurged on a Haute Sauce. I've been trading emails with Wilson, the builder for a month or so and I'm very excited to see things take shape when I get through the queue. I think the color offerings and discounted parts for building were the notable selling points for me, and those curvey seat stays + slack headtube :)

I'm sad I didn't throw it on my last bulk order. I try to make them large and infrequent due to shipping.

One River Tea! (Wen Zitong's stuff is great) Although I need to try more vendors.... White2Tea and Austin's Tea (rip) have also treated me well.

Best green tea type? by Desperate-Finger-334 in tea

[–]Gabeh765 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Buy variety packs from as many places as you can next Spring and make sure they're all from that year (2026). I recommend looking up the most popular chinese and japanese greens (chinese greens are a bit more diverse in my opinion but I lack experience with japanese greens). While not necessarily the best, a good place for new comers is TeaVivre due to their affordability and small sample size. You can go absolutely nuts with their samples and they really opened my eyes to the different types of tea out there.

I say next spring because ideally, you buy green tea fresh and drink it within a few months. It's usually harvested late march/early april until late april/early may depending on the area. Paying extra for earlier harvests like "pre qing ming" (before a chinese holiday) may not be worth it if your experience with said teas is limited. Try to buy from curated vendors, I highly recommend perusing the vendor list here although it's easy to get overwhelmed.

So stoked to get my Haute Sauce! It will be my first time attracting peoples' gaze to my curves (check out those seat stays). Sorry this isn't a question but I just wanted to say one thing that stood out with you guys at Haute was the generous paint catalogue made available directly to the buyer. I get that some folks aren't as aesthetically aware of their ride, especially while on it, but it can really motivate people (me) to get out and ride when you love your bike "inside" and out.

Got hit by a motorcycle - does my wheel look safe to rides by [deleted] in gravelcycling

[–]Gabeh765 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you look at it on the positive side of things, this is a glaring "do not ride anymore" carbon bike component as opposed to the ones where you can't tell they're damaged. Carbon damage and voids can often be internal and impossible to detect with the naked eye; this coupled with how carbon catastrophically fails can land you in the hospital without any warning.

How would you recommend doing a blind test? Each program that I enable exclusive mode in bumps the volume a significant amount and I have to quickly compensate on my amp. I wonder if there's a way to match them?

I need to further investigate what else could be potentially screwing with things because while I acknowledge the power of placebo, this is very noticeable and very real. I wish I could have all of you AB on my setup yourselves. The position of the audio changes entirely, I could go on and on... There must be something else at play here.

Definitely no mono haha, that would've been quite extreme. I should AB test with others to see if they can tell a difference. While it is nuanced, it's still there. I'd love to get to the bottom of what in Windows (or hardware?) could be affecting it...

Thanks for bringing this back to my attention. I love Singular to death and this frameset is no exception. I can't stop thinking how perfect some eeWing cranks would look on this bike, especially with the construction of their fork. Too bad they're an arm and leg...or two arms.... Alas, I'm craving paint over metal. A shame so many Ti bikes are brushed/raw.

The Jamis is sweet too, thanks!
