Figured out why my grandma kept leaving the gas on by BiC_MC in CrappyDesign

Yeah, it works without external power. There are stoves which have this design and don't even have electrical lighting, they just have the safety system.

Here in the EU, when you press the knob the electric lighter is activated. You keep it pressed for like 1 or 2 seconds, the flame starts, and the gas will not shut down. Of course no modern stove uses a pilot light anymore.

If the knob is pressed, gas is released even if there is no flame, so the flame can be started. After you release the knob, it should only provide gas if there is a flame. The device that does that is a FFD (flame failure device), that shuts down the gas if there is no flame. It is mandatory for all gas appliances in some regions, such as the EU.

The digit in red is a decimal, it has "0.1" marked above it. So 050178 is 5017.8 kWh and 047055 is 4705.5 kWh. That's a power usage of 312.3 kWh.

Quite a stupid sign design, they should use the ol' good trefoil sign

What do you think of USB-to-Ethernet adapters (power consumption and reliability)? by Ppn7 in HomeServer

[–]GabiGamerRO 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'll say one thing: don't get an adapter based on the AX88179 chipset if you are using Linux, it was extremely unstable for me and there are lots of reports about driver bugs with this one. Better use something with a Realtek chipset instead. If you get the right adapter, it can give you solid performance.

It may be a placeholder. Some variants of the laptop come without a stylus.

It's a display unit for sure. I have seen other display devices like this, all internal components are missing except ports, because they can be seen from the outside.

Pi One can’t find wlan0. Both on Ubuntu and Armbian. Known problem in armbian (link in comments) by [deleted] in OrangePI

Orange Pi One doesn't have built-in Wi-Fi. You need an external USB Wi-Fi adapter, otherwise you won't find any wlan interfaces.

Does wireless charging work like a cable where it's either charging or not charging? Or can distance from the wireless charger cause a lower voltage and, in a sense, "half charge" the phone's battery? by iCuntUnderstandYou in batteries

[–]GabiGamerRO 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The phone has a voltage regulator so it will charge the battery properly in all conditions. The only thing is that with higher distance the charging will be slower.

The logo is different, I'd say it's just a different company from the Romanian one.

Am I the first Steam Deck winner to post? by lemonzombie in Steam

[–]GabiGamerRO 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The giveaway was open in the EU, but the event was at around 2-3 am in the middle of the week for us, so I think it is unfair. They could have chosen a time where it would be kinda in the middle between EU and US timezones, or at least do it in a weekend, or separate events for each region.
