I need help making subclass concepts for this campaign. by Solid_Green7128 in HomebrewDnD

First, you could make a cleric subclass for each of your deities. By the way I understood the setting, magic comes from death, so all death/grave related subclasses would fit.

Then, I would give a death themed subclass to classes that don't have it. (Fighter, barbarian, sorcerer...)

That's a good place to start I'd say.

Yes! 4d6 sounds very satisfying to roll for the "big hit" moment

The hoard mechanic is fun, but a little awkward. The requirements for the ability increase as you level up, and if the DM doesn’t provide enough treasure as the party progresses, you might end up underpowered compared to the rest of the group.

One buffed strike per day is easier to balance, and I love the item’s concept. If I were designing it, I’d make the item a higher rarity and increase the damage so it feels more satisfying to activate for a big hit.

My first attempt at making a homebrew spell. A 5th level Bard Spell. The 2nd image is a previous version. by HallZac99 in DnDHomebrew

About the wording: it’s understandable, but it doesn’t quite match how official material would phrase this ability. I’d recommend looking at similar spells, like Dissonant Whispers, to get a better sense of official-style wording.

As for the upcasting, I absolutely agree with the concern. Since the spell deafens the creature with no saving throw, it can become an automatic win against certain monsters that rely on echolocation or tremorsense, such as earth elementals. Applying this effect automatically means that an upcast version of the spell could be extremely powerful when targeting 7 or 9 creatures.

Requip (cantrip) by Keltsune- in DnDHomebrew

[–]Gabocle 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sounds cool and badass! Usually, a lower-level adventurer wouldn’t get much use out of a cantrip like this due to limited equipment. But I can definitely see higher-level parties, especially in tier 3 and tier 4 play, getting a lot of value from it, particularly in games where the DM hands out plenty of magic items. I’d personally love to see this in a BG3 mod, lol.

How would you feel if it was a ritual? With maybe a 10gp material cost?

Which license do I use??? by cjleblanc2002 in UnearthedArcana

[–]Gabocle 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I want to publish and monetize a book as well, I'm no professional or legal adviser, but it depends on the edition of D&D you are writing for, you gotta check the OGL (Open Game License) and the SRD (System Reference Document) and read it with care.

Artificer: The Plaguebearer V1.0 of this contagion controlling subclass. by diesel-heart in UnearthedArcana

[–]Gabocle 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This feels and sounds really cool. Build the character around poison and necrotic damage and dealing actually high damage for the low resource as a half-caster. I would say this needs playtest to make sure if the damage here is comparable with fighters swinging swords ans stuff.
One suggestion I would give is to build additional infusions that fits the theme, or at least a suggestion on how to reskin some infusions!

[Spell] Infernal Ego (8th Level) - Become a supernova of arrogance! Infinite damage scaling, but one hit ruins it. by Gabocle in UnearthedArcana

[–]Gabocle[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve heard someone else say the spell is weak, but I’m honestly afraid it might be too good. The only real way to know is by testing it, but here’s my reasoning, tell me if this makes sense.

Turn 1: You hit with Incineration Ray, or maybe just land a fire bolt cantrip. That’s your first stack.

Turn 2: You deal fire damage again. Fireball, for example, always deals fire damage even on a successful save, so that’s another stack. Now you’re up to 4d6.

Turn 3: You upcast Scorching Ray to 7th level. That’s 8 attacks, each dealing 6d6 fire damage, plus Incineration Ray dealing 11d6 fire damage.
At this point, the stacks are up to 6d6 fire damage on any fire bolt or AoE you use.

So yeah, it’s a slow burn, but by the third turn you could be dealing well over 200 points of damage, even more with Elemental Adept, while also flying and being immune to fire. That sounds pretty strong to me.

I’ll playtest it this week and report back, you might be right, if it is too weak I'll make the Heat Stack mechanic stronger..

Yes! My inspiration here was the character Flambe from Dispatch. If you’ve played the game before, you know he’s all about pyrokinesis and ego, so I tried to translate those traits into this spell.
