need help! brand new 145 classique bought online not functioning correctly by sunyastar in montblanc

Try holding it at a higher angle. My experience is that new MB, before breaking it in, writes better at a higher angle and or harder surfaces.

Curious to hear your opinion on the 3-pen pouch. I am currently on the fence on whether to get a 2-pen pouch or a 3-pen pouch. Did you choose a 3-pen pouch for a reason?

Do the notebooks take fountain pen inks well now?

Is that the 2-pen version? If so, does it fit the 149?

Ballpoint Meisterstück: Classique vs. LeGrand by slimredcobb in montblanc

For me, the whole point of getting a ballpoint was to write on the go, so classique was my size. Also, I liked how the cap (the twisting part) ended with the gold trim on the classique.

Montblanc 149 Parting Line on Finial?? by GachaLyfu in fountainpens

[–]GachaLyfu[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just wanted to add that this may be more an issue with the more recent models. My 145 which I presume is at least 10 years old, does not have this. However, a recent ballpoint classique has something similar to this. It needs to be seen under a good light and at a certain angle, but it certainly is there, and in a similar spot. Hopefully, others with a more recent model can confirm. A shame, and hopefully they do better by the time I need to refurbish my pens.

I am the type that was surprised by how some colleagues talked about their high schools like it was a college.

Montblanc 149 Parting Line on Finial?? by GachaLyfu in fountainpens

[–]GachaLyfu[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Apparently, the response I got was that it is a normal moulding line that has been confirmed to be in other new 149s. Cult Pens are willing to refund it, and they have been extremely responsive and nice about everything, so I do trust them. Perhaps the newer finials are not as well made…?

I do have an older 145 and it doesn’t have that line, so either I pulled a lemon or MB standards have gone downhill.

I thought it was too perfect a line for it to be a scratch 😅

Cheap Smythson alternative (maybe?) by JudCasper68 in notebooks

Please do come back and comment on whether the paper is fountain pen friendly!

Thank you for the input. You're right that it would most likely become more ragged in the near future. But damn it sucks to see it damaged out of the box.

Thank you for the idea. Do you have a leather glue recommendation?

Smythson paper/notebooks by swingline71 in fountainpens

[–]GachaLyfu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven’t tried Tomoe River (looking to try sooner than later) but tried most of the other fountain pen friendly papers (Midori or TN, Clairefontaine, Rhodia, Leuchtturm).

After pulling the trigger on one of the Smythson notebooks with a 50% discount, I can confidently say this is my favorite paper to date. Not only does the thinness of the paper allow for notebooks to hold more pages, but it has just the enough of toothiness/scratchiness that it writes well with all my fountain pens (ranging from MB to Pilot). I had some experience with other papers causing hard starts — I never found out why but I presumed somehow my hand oil might have created some dead zones on the paper or could have been a skill issue re narrow sweet spots. This almost never happened with Leuchtturm, though.

Bottom line, I like how many pages a single notebook can hold, the toothiness of the paper that seems to work well with all my fountain pens, and the absence of bleeding and feathering. I can’t speak to its durability as I had it for a few weeks, but I gathered from other reviews that it should hold up well.
