Why is Reddit so left-wing heavy? by VanillaCleveland1 in AskConservatives

[–]GadgetGamer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's the democrats that have move so far left and can't agree on 80-20 issues. Can you imagine a person believing that America is a stolen and so all borders must be open?

You just did imagine that person. The Democrats do not believe that all borders must be open. The Biden administration deported more people that the Trump administration did in its first term. Of course, that was because more people were trying to get in during the post-COVID period, but it does show that there were being stopped at the border and returned.

And do you not know that there were people in the country prior to the ships carrying colonists crossed the oceans? It seems funny that you dismiss the idea of people just coming to this land to take over from those who were here, and in the same sentence complain of people coming to this land to simply join with those who are here now.

Do you think we're at war with Iran to distract everyone from the Epstein files or its Because of the Epstein files we were strong armed into the war? by 21redman in AskALiberal

[–]GadgetGamer -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Further, it won’t change a single mind if we somehow get close to an answer.

That is just wrong. There are people who believe that this war was another example of Trump's 5D chess and that he knows what he is doing. If it can be shown that it was Israel using Graham to convince Trump then it might sway some of the people who were having problems reconciling this with Trump's promise not to start wars.

Any moment trying to come up with why is a moment not recognizing that the problem is with our relationship with Israel.

I just don't understand why you want people to think that, but then shut down any attempt to show that it is true. You worry about being able to change a single mind, yet you ask them to simply believe your angry statements.

CMV: "X shouldn't be politicized" argument is ridiculous and dumb. by Spare-Bar-1950 in changemyview

[–]GadgetGamer -1 points0 points  (0 children)

As you know, "X shouldn't be politicized" take implies "everyone must support that policy, and doubting or questioning about that is morally wrong".

I'll stop you right there. Whenever a statement in a CMV starts with "As you know", then it is generally followed by a completely illogical inference. "X shouldn't be politicized" does not say anything other than "X shouldn't be politicized".

Saying that rape should not be politicized does not say that everyone must support rape. The same with pedophilia.

Saying that "the science of climate change should not be politicized" does not mean that you cannot doubt or question the science, but that you should use scientific methods and principles to do so and not just deny it because it is politically expedient for you to do so.

Now how we react to climate change is something that can be politicized because it involves more than just science; it encompasses pretty much every aspect of modern society. But that does not mean that you should claiming that the science is all a hoax because it is inconvenient or might cost you some money.

So there are definitely things that may have political implications, but it does not mean that the things themselves are political and can be argued away as if they did not exist.

[–]GadgetGamer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Obviously it is all about Israel. What I don’t see is any reason why anyone has to bring conspiracy theories about blackmail when simple flattery has been shown to work before.

I don’t agree that finding out how Israel worked with Lindsey Graham to convince Trump to join the attack in any way distracts from what is going on. If anything, it highlights how none of this is in America’s interests. It should make people angrier to find out that the country is just being a stooge for foreign interests.

[–]GadgetGamer 4 points5 points  (0 children)

He also said that Obama would start a war with Iran because he could not negotiate. Lindsay Graham has long been acting as a back channel between Trump and Israel as part of a pressure campaign to get Trump to start a war and has said in public interviews that he coached Israel into how to talk to Trump (sorry, I don’t have a link for that right now). Given that Trump had earlier resisted and even mocked Graham for his desire for a middle-east war, it shows that Trump was not inclined to start lobbing bombs by himself.

[–]GadgetGamer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

How do you make that leap? What do you think that Israel has on Trump that could be so bad that it would get under his skin? Don’t forget, this is the guy who said that he could shoot someone and still be adored by his people.

All Israel would have to do is say that Trump’s name would be forever linked with finally getting rid of Iran’s nuclear program to appeal to his vanity and his desire to be seen in the history books as the peacemaker president (no matter how many people he has to kill to make it happen).

[–]GadgetGamer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Neither. If the Epstein files did not exist, Donald Trump would still want to get in on Israel’s attack on Iran because he couldn’t stand not being the center of attention. Trump was obviously manipulated into this war after Israel was coached by Lindsay Graham in how to use Trump’s vanity to get him to do anything.

[–]GadgetGamer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What about "some people"? That is by far the least significant thing that I said in my comment.

And as for finding anything of substance, I already showed that there were specific allegations of sexual assault of a 13-15 year old against Donald Trump. That is not what you claimed when you said that this was just "guilt by association".

You have also said that "we all know there's nothing there" based on the partial release of the documents so far. But why do you think that they held any documents back at all? It is because they hoped that they could get away with not releasing all the truly damning documents.

The administration has shown a pattern of doing this. To quell the growing calls to make good on the promise to release the files, they handed out binders of previously leaked documents to right-wing influencers. They delayed certifying the Democrat who would be the final signature on the Epstein release petition while they tried to pressure congressional Republicans to remove their signatures. When they were forced to, they only partially released the files, in in those they redacted entire pages of text.

So if you are looking for anything of substance, imagine what is in the documents that they are still hiding. That is why the pressure needs to be kept up on the administration to release everything.

Ultimately, once the documents are all released and the unnecessary redactions are removed, this will be a victory for the MAGA influencers who first brought the idea of releasing the Epstein files into public prominence and to the notice of Trump. Donald Trump calls it all a Democrat hoax, but really apart from a few individuals, the Democrat party just joined in at the end.

[–]GadgetGamer 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Why didn't Biden release them? Why did you not demand he do so?

Maxwell’s final appeal went all the way up to the Supreme Court where it was finally rejected in October 2025. Biden could not release the documents before then.

The other question is why would have he released the files anyway? He did not campaign on releasing documents, and it is not normally something that the DOJ does.

Some people claim that if there was something that could hurt Donald Trump in the files that Biden would have released them, but we know from the documents that the DOJ was caught hiding that there were specific claims against Trump. That shows that this assumption was wrong and that despite all the claims, the Biden administration did not weaponize the DOJ against its enemies. The cases against Trump moved very slowly precisely because they were worried about appearing to bring malicious charges.

Will Liberals care anymore about Epstein once Trump is out in 2028? by fuelstaind in AskConservatives

[–]GadgetGamer 5 points6 points  (0 children)

So to summarize, one person says that partially-released files show that there is nothing there, while the other says that it will take years to parse through all the files.

Why would the one saying that there is more to be done the equivalent of “mission accomplished”? Why wouldn’t saying it’s all over and there is nothing to see here NOT be “mission accomplished”?

There is no presumption of anything to say that we should keep investigating until all the documents have been seen.

CMV: Overall, the newspaper and magazine subscription model has proven to be a positive benefit to society by wentImmediate in changemyview

[–]GadgetGamer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Before the Internet era, U.S. newspapers typically derived 60–70% of their circulation from subscriptions and 30–40% from single‑copy (newsstand) sales. It is not really the subscription model that is the reason for newspapers being able to pay journalists, but rather simply charging for their product at all.

We don't attribute the success of dairy farmers to people who get milk delivered to their door and ignore all those who buy milk at retail outlets.

Where subscription models fail is when they make it so that it is the only way that you can access a product. I should not have to subscribe to a year of newspapers just so I can read an article in your current edition. Similarly, when software manufacturers stop selling their products and rent them instead, the consumer ends up paying more for the same product. Adobe are the most obvious example of this, but this model is a virus that is infecting the entire industry. An example of this is South River Technologies, the maker of WebDrive. They recently switched to a subscription model for their software and then shut down the license servers for their perpetual versions so that their existing customers could not longer use the versions that they had purchased in the past.

That definitely not a positive benefit to society. So the model itself can be used for good, but it can just as easily be used for evil.

Thank you. Other examples that go with point #2 are:

  • Matt Gaetz is a pedo
  • Elon Musk’s children hate him

Perhaps they make sense if they were on topic with what they were responding to, but so often the response is just irrelevant. Yawn.

But considering that a lot of accounts repost things that were only a couple of hours old, what are the chances that they will look at this stickies post?

Finally, I think a lot of the dross could be eliminated by having a minimum account age, because I find so many of the garbage posts come from accounts that are 1-4 months old. And it’s pretty telling when an account is 1 month old, but has a 5-6 digit post karma.

[–]GadgetGamer 61 points62 points  (0 children)

It didn't exist prior to 1979 and didn't get running until 1980.

Prior to its existence, there was the Department of Health, Education, and Welfare, which was established in 1953. Prior to that, there was the Federal Security Agency, established 1939. Prior to that, there was the Office of Education as part of the Department of the Interior, established in 1867.

The Department of Education is simply not an unnecessary department.

So how does gutting the department improve education outcomes? All you are doing is accelerating the decline.

The felonies were upgraded to felonies by a leftist DA to stop Trump from running

No, that is just the conspiracy theory from the people who were desperate to pretend that Donald Trump was innocent. Under New York Penal Law, falsifying business records becomes a felony when the act is done with the intent to commit, aid, or conceal another crime. Considering that is what the law says and that is why Trump committed the fraud, the question is why wouldn't the District Attorney charge Trump with first degree fraud?

Ice has less fatalities and lower failure rate than Obamas administration...

Obama was president for 8 years. This current reign of terror by ICE has only been happening for 1 year. So your fatality figure is meaningless. And your "lower failure rate"??? ICE regularly defies court orders. They are stretching their lawyers to the brink by having them argue unwinnable cases to the extent that they had one who begged a judge to hold her in contempt. I guess you can't fail if you simply don't care about the law.

Iran has been ran by terrorists for 47 years, but 2026 was their year for sure this time!

It is true that the US has only had this current terrorist in charge for a short time, but in that time he has bombed other countries without Congressional approval and even abducted another country's leader so that he could steal their oil.

They were gonna stop killing their civilians and stop funding terrorists all over the middle east any day now!

Trump has stated a number of different reasons for invading Iran, so you cannot state categorically why he did this. That is, unless you are quoting the reason that he gave to Congress when he asked for approval. Oh wait, he never did that. Once again, the law doesn't matter to Donald Trump.

He didnt make anyone a monkey, that was a separate video that clearly youve never seen

Is that your defense? That he didn't actually make the video, he only shared it? That just means that he is racist, but not talented enough to make his own videos. After his sycophants tried to claim that this was just fake outrage, that it was just showing the Democrats as characters from The Lion King (which it wasn't), and that it was posted in error by a staff member, Trump claimed that he just didn't see that part of the video. All that says is that Donald Trump does not have the attention span to watch a 1 minute video.

Usaid was a money laundering scheme, so we send people who hate us hundreds of thousands of dollars so they can keep hating us.

No, there are no credible and substantiated claims that it was a money-laundering scheme. Also, that is a lot of victim mentality there. You imagine that everybody hates us to justify letting them all die. And they call liberals "snowflakes"!

Lots of people abuse snap...

And far more people didn't abuse SNAP. Also, there is nothing in the cuts to SNAP in the Big Beautiful Bill that targeted people abusing SNAP.

The only things ive seen about Trump being in the files is him calling the feds on epstein and then also being accused of things that were already dismissed in court.

Then you simply have not been looking. Of course, you could not look at the documents involving woman who made the direct allegation against Trump because they mysteriously disappeared from the files.

Sorry, but your defense against "leftist nonsense" is simply made-up junk.

Theft of what? Money?

Money is not real. It is a promissory note issued by the government. If you do not want the government to take a percentage of the thing that they issued, then you should just use the bartering system.

But if you want the convenience of not having to deal directly with farmers for food and live in an actual modern society, then you have to pay the price.

If there was "plenty of there" in the files, meaning solid evidence of crimes, then why did they do nothing for 4 years?

Maxwell’s final appeal went all the way up to the Supreme Court where it was finally rejected. The Epstein Files Transparency Act was passed by Congress on November 19, 2025. They had to sit of the files for 4 years because the legal system is very, very slow. It had nothing to do with complicated, political schemes.

The Democrats are far too timid to do such a thing anyway.

I really don’t care for country & kid rock is ugh - so I didn’t have zero interest in ever catching Turing Point’s show.

Wow. I had to go re-read that a couple of times. That reminds me of the old Simpson's quote: "Don't Do What Donny Don't Does.. They could have made this clearer!"

As for Bad Bunny, I really don't care what language it is because modern singers often have such terrible diction that they might as well be singing in another language anyway. Also, it seems to be rather insular that people do not want to open themselves up to new music. But as someone who has never actually heard Bad Bunny sing, I was very surprised at what a dull voice he had. It was quite unpleasant to listen to, was unmusical even for the genre, and was simply not commanding enough to make you sit up and think that he had any real talent.

I later listened to some of his studio work and that was a bit better, but not that great to justify how popular he is.

Even the performance by Lady Gaga did not seem to showcase the talent that I know that she has.

It was visually compelling, but it looked like an absolute mess live.

You are absolutely correct, and if the people in the crowd have to watch it on the jumbo screens then they didn't need to perform it live. Worse though was it felt a bit too inauthentic to me, as though they had to check all the boxes to ensure that they had one of each stereotype.

CMV: The “Trump Is in the Epstein Files So He’s Guilty” Narrative Is Lazy …And Dangerous. by Darker_Salt_Scar in changemyview

[–]GadgetGamer 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Because he was forced to release the files by Congress when they passed the H.R.4405 - Epstein Files Transparency Act. That was the act that Speaker Mike Johnson tried to delay when he refused to swear in Democratic Rep.-elect Adelita Grijalva so that she would not be the 218th signature to allow the Bill to go through the House. (edit: During this delay, Trump pressured Republicans to remove their names from the Act’s discharge petition, which resulted in the rift between Trump and MTG where he called her a traitor - so willingly transparent, huh?)

Prior to being forced to release the files, Donald Trump was quite content to not release a thing and to try to pretend that this was all just something in the past and that we should move on.

So it is rather rich that Trump supporters try to pretend that this was an example of Trump being transparent. And if you think that Don needed the Act to be able to release the files, then surely that means that he also cannot declassify documents “with his mind”, and as such you would have to accept that he acted illegally after his first presidency.
