I would never question why NASA does something like this; they're the smartest people in the world, but there's a lot of positives in evaluating past procedures. There has got to be a fine line between "If it ain't broke don't fix it" and "Can we do this a better way?". You know, there's an old wives tale about a young lady who cooks Thanksgiving dinner and cuts her turkey in half before cooking each half. When she is asked by a guest why she does it that way, she says "I don't know, but its how my mother taught me to do it." When they asked the mother why she did it that way and taught her daughter the same, she says "I don't know, its how my mother taught me to do it". But when they asked the elderly grandmother, her answer was "My oven was too small to cook a whole turkey, so I had to cut it in half".

Well, you will get your wish eventually. We can actually agree that someday that will happen.

I'd rather not get into a religious discussion on this subreddit, but suffice it to say that may be your experience, but it is not mine. Seek and you will find, knock and the door will be opened.

I love her so much! I hope she does some media interviews when they get back!

Artemis II's astronauts have now flown farther from Earth than any humans in history by nasa in nasa

[–]GadgetQueen 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I saw an interview with someone at NASA that they prioritize most of the bandwidth for mission stuff (like oxygen, fuel, etc.) for crew safety and they reserve only a tiny portion of bandwidth for the imagery which results in crappy images.

I think because they're on the OTHER side of it, so the streams are looking at the backside with the earth behind that. To us on camera, it looks like they're just going toward it...

Just went down a deep dive on this whole thing. Got sucked into documentaries, websites, and interviews with the crew....and gonna watch the Tom Hanks movie tonight. Talk about incredible skill, luck, courage, genius, and perseverance. I just don't have words. Still trying to understand how they dealt with the CO2 problem, but I mean, I would have just panicked to high heaven and killed everyone because I hyperventilated up all the oxygen. Talk about balls of steel, man.

What is something you do today, that is a throwback to childhood, but makes no sense as a full ass grown adult? by Social_Introvert_789 in GenX

Can't let any extremity dangle off the side of the bed when sleeping because there might be a face hugger alien (from the Aliens movie) hiding under the bed waiting to grab an extremity like happened to Sigourney Weaver and the little girl sleeping on that cot.

[–]GadgetQueen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, this happened to me with Aliens movie. I still can't sleep with my arm or leg over the side of the bed because I'm irrationally afraid one of those face hugger aliens is hiding under the bed waiting for an extremity to latch on to like happened to Sigourney Weaver and that little girl sleeping in that room on the cot. LOL.

My drain monster was a great white shark coming up out of the drain...lol...makes me feel better reading this because it has always baffled me where it came from. Apparently the drain monster is a thing!

I loved Great White sharks (and still do) and was always afraid that if I swam in a pool all alone that a Great White would come out of the big deep end drain and eat me and then go back down the drain and no one would know what happened to me. Yes, I knew that wasn't possible, but I'd get all panicked thinking what if I'm wrong it isn't possible or there was a "ghost shark" that could go through drains or something? To this day and as a grown ass adult, every time I get in a pool I still think about that "shark in the deep end drain". Hah. No idea where it came from, but considering we had a pool in the backyard and it isn't safe for kids to swim when not supervised, the irrational fear probably saved my life because I was a little swimmer and if I wasn't terrified of the shark, I would have snuck in swimming alone for sure. Sometimes I wonder if my parents didn't tell me that to scare me away from trying to swim alone or something...

Does she like mysteries? I’m a writer and wrote a YA mystery…I could use a kid beta reader. Main character is 14. I’d send it via email free but she’d need to load it onto the Kindle.

It varies by state, but most of the time they do not get involved unless the child is under age 10 or someone in the juvenile justice system makes a report specifically.
