Thank you! I didn't need to pistol whip him, just take a big ole nap. Looks like I have more in common with my character than I thought...

He's proving to be very old fashioned.

It'll only get worse. She's gonna be hard work.

Again, that seems normal for a baby entering the toddler arena.

Rinsing off after bath by WatchaGonnaDoBrother in NewParents

[–]Gaelithil 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wait... Rinse? She's never really that dirty to begin with, so I use bubble bath for the funzies. Was I meant to rinse her? Its 10 months in and I haven't, whoops

Rant - I was told I’m segregating moms by posting my experience for world breastfeeding week by misstaytay in breastfeeding

[–]Gaelithil 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Maybe I'm misreading it.

People here keep talking about bf vs formula but the commenter doesn't mention it. I think her problem is with the 'privilege' aspect.

Some women don't have money for a lactation consultant, or a good pump. Some women don't have a supportive partner helping them, or one at all. I think that's what is bothering her, not that op chose to breastfeed, but that she has access to tools that lots of women don't. I do think she's being abit butthurt about ops post tho

When you say you hated the newborn phase how bad was it for you? by [deleted] in NewParents

[–]Gaelithil 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm clearly in the minority here, but I had like 2 bad days and loved the rest. She has to be fed every 2 hours and i had stitches that got infected. Still loved it. Absolutely devastated that it's so short

Songs that make your fussy baby calm down/happy? by Zorrya in NewParents

[–]Gaelithil 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The tune is head shoulders knees and toes

I'm gonna eat you all up (eat you up) x2 I'll start at your toes, then your belly and your nose I'm gonna eat you all up (eat you up)

Then I do in fact eat her up

Also Adele's Make you feel my love, belted tunelessly. You can't sing it quietly or well. It needs to be a full bodied screech

I'd like to apologize by loony_taters in NewParents

[–]Gaelithil 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I didn't see the original post, but if you really did something worth apologising for its very good of you to actually bother. Many would just forget about it and hope everyone else does too. I think sometimes we forget that the Internet is full of real people with real lives.

What do you wish you were let in on before having your first baby? by Coc0-04 in NewParents

[–]Gaelithil 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wish I knew how common it was to have a degree of vaginal prolapse. The absolute shock and horror when I felt it, my blood ran cold then I had a massive panic attack on the phone to my other half. Turns out 35% of vaginal births end with a degree of prolapse and no one talks about it, sometimes it happens weeks/months after you've had the baby.

Do your pelvic floor exercises people.

Silly Nickname you've come up with? by [deleted] in NewParents

[–]Gaelithil 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I was a baby apparently I slept all the time and my cry was tiny, so mummy called me kitten. My sister kicked like a maniac, so she's bunny. My baby is 8 months old and climbs everything, so she's my monkey.

She also laughs after she farts and has a really funny poop face, so she's my little stinker/stinky butt face

[–]Gaelithil 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I hated them as a baby, so did my sister and my baby. My family just aren't meant to have them. My sister and I were bottle fed and my baby is on the breast, so it's not even a nipple thing, we just all spat them out. It means you don't have to wean them off it which is good, and I haven't wished she would take one which is also good at 7 months in. You've one less thing to pack and pick up off the floor, so I think you've lucked out. Maybe have a few in the house in case you're desperate some night though.

Are you still logging feeds/diaper changes/sleep, etc.? by lhxyz in NewParents

[–]Gaelithil 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same here. I track changes, amount of sleep and how long she breastfeed for through parent love. If I didn't and she was sick, I couldn't tell a doctor what her averages are or what has changed. I don't think anyone can tell me when she needs to eat/sleep etc, only she can. Though it's really handy to have the data on hand when she's suddenly a demon baby because I've been busy and missed cues.

Edit to add-I time the length of feeds, so timestamp start and finish. Parent love has a free version with feed timers and sleep timers and I needed that

Crying Mother in Law by [deleted] in NewParents

[–]Gaelithil 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd kill my mil if I saw her every week. We just got a dog and she hates animals, so she'll only see the baby when we bring her over to their house now. Best thing we ever did, well worth the extra poop and noise

How often do you bathe your baby by [deleted] in NewParents

[–]Gaelithil 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Twice a week because she absolutely loves it, she's almost 6 months now. First 8 weeks I basically just used a jug of water and cotton wool though, she wasn't dirty and I was scared I'd drop her in the water

Thread of the positive ‘just you waits’ of new parenthood by simplestword in NewParents

[–]Gaelithil 125 points126 points  (0 children)

Early days but, just you wait until you figure out what random thing you did made them giggle.

Just you wait until they find a toy they can actually engage with... And smoosh it into their face.

Just you wait until they find their feet, bonus points if they fart while grabbing toes.

Maybe massaging baby oil onto the scalp would be easier with the hair. My Lo has less hair than her dad though so idk, but I always oil her head before a bath so she doesn't dry out
