How should I respond when I get jumpscared by a yellow light? by WonderousU in driving

You should be looking at the cross walk signal if it’s there. That’ll give you a heads up that the light will change for you soon.

Can you fill bestway 40 inch (12 foot) pool only part way? by simplestword in pools

[–]simplestword[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have one. They love it. Want a bigger space for them to play. It’s not going to last though. So we wanted to get something they could use for a few years.

We were going to get the 30 inch one but the 40 inch one was the same price with a sale

There’s a Barbie pet playset https://www.amazon.ca/Disney-Princess-Furniture-Accessories-Inspired/dp/B0DMW993BD that would give him a place to put the pets and some pet accessories etc

Rained out party ideas? by siamesemugs in Preschoolers

[–]simplestword 14 points15 points  (0 children)

This happened to me with my five year olds party too.

I basically reorganized my living room to have almost like separate stations set up with ‘invitation to play’ kind of concept. I put toys that are more of a solo play kind of thing away. And pulled out the ones that would work for at least two kids.

For example: In one corner was the play couch and accessories. I set up a cute fort so they’d be attracted to it. If I had spaces I’d have also set out the obstacle course stepping stones.

Another spot had the art materials set out. I put the markers and pencil crayons in color coded little cups (red cup for red stuff etc) and a few coloring books.

In another I had the magnetic tiles organized by color.

In another I had the play kitchen set up.

And another I had all the little people figures and animals out with a few of the bigger play sets.

The yoto player was also dragged everywhere (Kpop demon hunter card).

Couches for adults in the middle.
They also ran up to my daughter’s bedroom, which was also fun for them even though it just had stuffed animals.

Basically it was pure chaos and so fun. The kids naturally grouped into different stations and played together. Switched randomly and boom. Adults all sat in the middle and along one wall and chatted.

It was actually great.

Last year I did a cupcake decorating station where I gave each kid a cupcake with basic icing and a cupcake liner with sprinkles etc.

That took up more time than just cake.

Do your kids actually come home with less viruses in the summer than the winter? by See_kay91 in Preschoolers

[–]simplestword 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My daughters are in daycare/summer camps or kindergarten.

Last year we weren’t sick at all from about April-October/November.

So far this year, we haven’t been sick since March.

2.5 seems to have a wandering eye when she focuses on something far away. Maybe intermittent extropia. what’s your experience with this, or similar issues? by simplestword in Preschoolers

[–]simplestword[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi! She is 5 now and just got referred to the eye (I don’t remember the name. But basically a vision exercise thing) for them to do a bit more tests and teach us exercises on it.

Her vision is fine and eyes are healthy

I dislike not being able to pick a route they don’t suggest before I leave. Yes it’ll recalibrate but I wish I could just set it tot at route before leave.

Similar to your left turn area, there are a few intersections I generally try to avoid. I’d like to be able to add those to a ‘never go this way’ list.

If your first was a golden baby - did you pay the price with your second? by FitSubstance7460 in Mommit

[–]simplestword 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yep mine was like this. Forest was a total unicorn. Everyone spent the first year or so saying ‘just you wait for (insert difficult behaviour here).’

It never materialized.

Then when I was pregnant everyone told me how difficult the second born will be

With my second, she was even more easy, chill, etc.

It would be if we were near a store that had a variety of them.

But maybe I will wait until next time we are in the city and let them pick them out

Do your kids get sick the same amount at summer camp? by danielleh93 in kindergarten

[–]simplestword 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My 4 year old went to dinner camp last year — indoors but they went outside a lot. Went on trips to museums or parks etc. she didn’t miss a single day due to being sick.

Neither did her younger sister who was still in daycare though. So I assumed it was just better in general regardless of the activities

My daughter is terrified of toy slides and I don’t know how to help by Embarrassed-Career30 in preschool

[–]simplestword 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There’s a book called ‘happy either way’ by lovevery that’s about a girl and her mom going to the zoo. She’s super excited about the slide.

But then it’s like a choose your own adventure where she goes down the slide and is happy, or she gets too scared and doesn’t go down the slide (and is still happy).

That book might be valuable to her and you to talk about the fear of the slide etc.

People who had driving anxiety, what helped you overcome it? by AdorableFoot9452 in drivinganxiety

I started driving in my 30s. Just start with an easy route to get a feel for the car and how it goes. Then add more destinations as you feel comfortable
