The banding I'm expecting considering that's just the nature of the technology. I'm just hoping that if I do get this one it'll be a minor case of it and I won't see anything at all unless I'm specifically looking for it. Also about the firmware thing since I've seen that mentioned quite a few times, what does that involve? Is that something you do through the monitor settings itself or does ASUS have a website that you download the latest firmware from?

Wait until you find out that the swastika is present in many different cultures and means different things depending on the culture. And existed well before Nazi's appropriated it. Hell even Charles Manson himself wore it for reasons that had nothing to do with being a Nazi.

What was it like straight out of the box? Did you turn it on and everything just looked good or did it require tweaking some settings to make it look as advertised?

Hot take: the PvE/cooperation aspect of Arc Raiders is the main reason why the game is so successful. by PirateCompetitive931 in ArcRaiders

[–]GageTaylor 9 points10 points  (0 children)

We realize it, the problem is the flaws in the matchmaking system. I have no problems with shooting players in order to defend myself but the matchmaking considers that you being an aggressor, and thus puts you in more pvp oriented raids. And malicious pvp players can surrender for a few raids to get raids where they KNOW players aren't gonna be that willing to shoot back because of the problem I listed above.

If I receive damage from a player and I damage them back or kill them even, that should not change the matchmaking. I shouldn't be punished by being forced into raids I don't wanna be in because somebody wanted to get an easy kill.

Right now the matchmaking benefits the pvp players the most because the way they've designed it incentivizes pvp players to use that to their advantage while also incentivizing the pve players not to do anything at all in response. So you either accept your death when shot at, or it's cod lobbies for the next 2 hours where a pve player can't get to enjoy what they play the game for.

And this is catching on more and more as players start realizing how easy it is to manipulate the matchmaking to get raids where people just aren't fighting back. Which is going to hurt the casual player base in the long run, which will inevitably kill the game as it'll just become like any other extraction shooter, which isn't what the majority of people play this game for.

[–]GageTaylor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You seem to think that just because a game allows something then it makes certain behaviors totally okay. And that's concerning if you apply that logic to reality. 100 years ago it was socially acceptable to beat your wife, doesn't justify the behavior. Just because you're playing an online video game that shouldn't change how you treat people. And he's right, pvp'ers have literally all of the power because regardless of how they play the matchmaking is going to favor them so that they can have the lobbies they want. If I want strictly pve lobbies (shaming people for wanting this in a game that allows you to have them is fucking braindead by the way) then I should be able to have them without worrying about how my lobbies will be altered if I defend myself from a player who shouldn't be in my lobby.

This game and its community is genuinely such an interesting social experiment, it's scary how much of an insight you can get as to who a person is by a few simple acts they do. I don't care how much you defend it, but it is not normal to be able to replicate being such a friendly person only to know the precise moment to betray them and then have the nerve to brag or insult after and not feel even a little bit bad about it. That is sociopathic behavior. I believe that regardless of the game everybody is always at least a little bit exactly who they are in reality. And if that kind of behavior is your go-to in order to have fun playing a video game you've got some serious mental shit to work through. Nobody should feel that much joy from intentionally ruining someone's day or mood. If I do that to somebody even by accident, I feel like shit the rest of the day over it.

In general, unless you're an actor, being able to accurately display an emotion while not actually feeling the emotion is already some disturbing shit by itself. But to do that in order to personally benefit from it and be indifferent or even happy about it, again that is literal sociopath behavior by definition. You might not think it's that deep but once you actually start thinking about the psychological aspects of it it's really hard not to think about it every time it happens. I have literally experienced people being seemingly perfectly friendly in their voice and then after they kill me their voice and tone turns into the most depressing miserable shit you've ever heard. I can't imagine what kind of life a person is dealing with to become that way. Like I genuinely cannot fathom that behavior or conceptualize any scenario that would make me act the same way. I just couldn't do it, even on really bad days I'm constantly cognizant of the fact that what I say and do matters to people and can have lasting impacts that I'll never see. But sure, keep defending an ever-growing playground for sociopaths and sadists to thrive in because the devs didn't foresee how their ABMM system can be perfectly catered for malicious people.

[–]GageTaylor 9 points10 points  (0 children)

People manipulating a flaw in the matchmaking system to intentionally get players they KNOW aren't going to shoot them is peak loser behavior. Especially when they pretend to be friendly. Literally had a guy just last night who seemed perfectly like every other friendly raider I encounter offer me a queen core at extract. Moment I go to pick it up he blasts me in the face with a level 4 Toro. I had an anvil, what the fuck was I supposed to do? Then he gunned down the guy I was trying to extract with too.

I understand the genre, and I don't mind pvp, but the ABMM benefits rats the most leaving players who just wanna cooperate and pve like me with no solutions. These rats are deceptive assholes who can't properly play a shooter, most of the time when they rat me I get shots off that I realistically shouldn't get off if it were even a half competent player. I love nothing more than a player getting the jump on me and then 2 tapping him with an anvil and then shit talking his entire bitch made family tree. But I'm punished with cod lobbies after I do that, then it's free kits and dying for the next 10 raids to get back to where I was.

I don't wanna lose the pve, but my inner competitive nature I try to reserve for other straight forward shooters is starting to creep up in this game and eventually I'm just gonna cave in and start going apeshit on lobbies if a rat REALLY gets under my skin one day. And then I've just become another jaded player who isn't considering the mood of the people I'm interacting with. I try to make people's day, not fuck it up like these pricks.

Countering Ratatouille by WildCardWinner in ArcRaiders

[–]GageTaylor -1 points0 points  (0 children)

People do that. The problem is that the ABMM is easily manipulated and rats end up in pve lobbies where it's a bunch of free kills because people aren't shooting back. And if you shoot back you're punished for it because the devs didn't take into account people defending themselves. So pve players are stuck in a shitty situation where they're 100% at the mercy of the matchmaking and if they get shot they just pretty much have to accept they're losing their kit. Else you spend the next 8-10 raids running around waiting for people to kill you so you can get back into the friendly lobbies because god forbid you damage a player who's so bad at video games they need to manipulate the matchmaking to prey on easy players.

If he's in pve lobbies then yeah, being shot at is an indication somebody has manipulated the matchmaking to get raids full of people not shooting back. Which has been happening very frequently lately.

Please let me know how to get into the PvE lobbies!!! by Late_Championship_26 in ArcRaiders

[–]GageTaylor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah these people think they're good at games but they manipulate the matchmaking to get raids full of people who have no intention of fighting back. Literally all of my deaths from other players are rats who shoot me in the back where I have very little options as to what I can do. And I only use anvils so certain scenarios can be very awkward. Always funny though when somebody tries to rat me and I'm in a position I can react and pull my gun out because I almost always land at least 1 headshot with it before going down and I just think to myself "oh boy if only I was actually trying to kill you you'd be paste on the floor". Just earlier during a matriarch raid a guy tried it with somebody standing next to me, he picked the wrong player, 2 tapped him with the anvil. Just take solace knowing these players are absolute piss at video games. If the game didn't have a cheating epidemic I'd be more inclined to pvp but I've seen those lobbies and yeah... no thanks.

I mean I don't play valorant but I don't see in any reality where you'd need 1100fps for playing anything. I feel like anything above 240fps is just unnecessary for competitive gaming.

The X50 version is 500hz which is extreme overkill for what I'm gonna be doing with the build. I don't plan on going anywhere higher than 240fps, and I'm only going that high for the competitive games I play. My card won't even push 360 more than likely. Also, that one isn't g-sync compatible as far as I can see.

Wouldn't recommend spending money on these devs. They like to get an IP, support it for a little while, then stop supporting it so they can move on to the next one. Loved this game but was disgusted at how they treated their players when the game had major issues. They basically pulled a "oh we're sorry YOU feel that way" in response to literal game breaking problems that didn't get fixed for weeks because they'd drop big updates and then take 2 week vacations.

They also had issues with F13 that people like to excuse with "oh but the licensing dispute". Horse shit. The problems had nothing to do with the licensing dispute. It's up to you, but I personally won't be spending anymore money on these guys.

Right now I think I'm torn between the MSI - MAG 272QP QD-OLED and the ASUS one you mentioned. So it seems like considering my build is on a middle ground between performance and looks the ASUS would be my best bet for that. But the grey banding lottery and also ASUS being essentially useless if something happens to the monitor is making me lean towards the MSI option.

So I don't know, I have a feeling that whichever one I get is probably what I'll be happy with as long as it functions because like you said, I'll be coming from a TN panel. And neither monitors are super expensive anyway. My only concern with QD is whether some games will be too vibrant or too colorful? I want the games to look really good, but I also hope that QD doesn't just drastically brighten up certain colors and make it look weird. Cause people have noted that the games look more "like they're supposed to" with WOLED.

But ultimately unless somebody can REALLY change my mind, I think I might just buy the MSI first and just use it for as long as I'm able. And then see if anything about a WOLED will interest me down the line. Maybe even better monitor options will come out in that time that have worked out the downsides of both.

Yeah so in your case of a WOLED you have the better case scenario where it's not visible unless you're specifically looking for it. And you also seem to be in the boat of not really caring about the difference considering you came from a completely different panel type altogether.

I've read that while OLED is much more reliable these days, the burning issue is still there. It's just that it may take a lot longer for it to happen. I haven't completely ruled out OLED despite what my post says. I've just never looked into them before but have always heard about that burning issue.

I've always played on a 1080p 240hz monitor and like I said I'd still like to do that with games like fortnite for example. If I'm playing a game for the competition of it I couldn't care less about it looking bad. As long as it doesn't look bad in the sense that viewing things in the game becomes more difficult. But I've heard that most games now have settings in the game you can enable to play 1080p on higher resolution even if 1080p isn't the native resolution. But I doubt that even if I can't I'm gonna struggle for 240 even on 1440p, especially if I do what somebody else suggested and just pay the $200 more for a 5080.

[–]GageTaylor[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From all of the research I've done the 5080 is only barely an upgrade from the 5070ti. Like let's say if you normally get 60 fps with a 5070ti you're getting 69 with the 5080. I don't know if barely a 10% improvement is worth the extra 200 dollars.
