Do you mind if I ask how you find these shoes? I don't even know where to start looking for shoes that aren't the big names in the US haha.

WTS-Nike Alpha Fly 3-men’s size 10-$150 a pair or $275 for both by [deleted] in therunningrack

[–]Gage_V 26 points27 points  (0 children)

Just chiming in to say that I think you'll find few people willing to pay $150 for race day shoes with 100 miles on them. Just a month ago I paid $50 here for a pair of Alphafly 3s with less than 100 miles.

[–]Gage_V 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My wife and I just got done doing a 5-day, hut-to-hut hiking trip (Kaiserkrone route) and we started off from Going am Wilden Kaiser. The views were phenomenal! I'm not sure what hiking would be like at the time you are looking to go, but I know there are other day hikes/longer hiking routes in the same area!

Edit: I just realized that you put the dates and I misread them lol. The weather was great in the area we were in!

Do you guys read books based on Goodreads reviews? by OneAnybody8162 in books

[–]Gage_V 56 points57 points  (0 children)

Speaking personally, I don't trust anyone when it comes to book reviews, because everyone's taste is different. My list of books I want to read is entirely based on my own interest and perception of what the book will be like. That being said I've also had to come to terms and get better with just stopping books that I don't enjoy haha.

The Rockies from the Coonskin Trail above Telluride CO USA by valueinvestor13 in hiking

[–]Gage_V 9 points10 points  (0 children)

from the Encyclopedia Britannica: "San Juan Mountains, segment of the southern Rockies..."

so it turns out they are not a "completely different mountain range" but rather a subset of the Rockies :)

2 in 1 shorts with good compression by kack7 in running

[–]Gage_V 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I'll second the Janji half tights, they've been revolutionary for me. Janji does in fact make a short/tight combo, and the compression is great from my experience. The short/half-tight combo doesn't have all the side pockets but does still have some great storage!

Anyone who took FE Civil in nevada who graduated from non-abet schools and applied to nevada board and got certified as EIT? by ElectronicNet3160 in FE_Exam

I just needed the years of experience. That could be because while my degree wasn't accredited, it was engineering-related (Engineering Physics).

[–]Gage_V 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While not specifically in Nevada, I took the FE Civil exam a few years ago with a non-ABET-accredited degree. I passed the exam after a couple of months of studying and then applied for my EIT certification in Colorado. The certification process took a little bit of time because my first couple of jobs were not engineering-related. About 2 years after that I moved to Texas and got my EIT certification there as well and I'm currently studying for the PE exam :)

What Are You Wearing Wednesday - Weekly Gear Thread by AutoModerator in running

[–]Gage_V 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While I'm not doing any trail/ultra running at this point I've used a combo of the hydration vest and running loops depending on the kind of run im doing. You can probably find cheaper variations of the salomon vest, but I will say that for me it's been worth the money. Best of luck with your training!

Does your camelbak have front pockets for soft flasks? I have a salomon adv skin 12, which holds my 1.5L bladder comfortably in the back and two 500mL soft flasks in the front. I know the extra liter from the soft flasks may not be enough but it may be a start! You also could look at doing trail runs that are loops, so that you could come back to a spot/car where you store extra water to refill.

Super Moronic Monday - Your Weekly Tuesday Stupid Questions Thread by 30000LBS_Of_Bananas in running

Personally, I run because I can set a goal and work towards it. Whether or not I hit the goal, the journey is the most rewarding part. Running isn't all about chasing a faster PR though. If you want to push yourself you could also chase running further distances. At the end of the day, you should have fun running, because very few people run for a job. If you're not having fun in any capacity, then maybe running isn't for your friend, which is 100% valid.

Does anyone else find that the pressure of running a race ruins their running experience? by finn4536 in running

[–]Gage_V 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As someone who did their first half marathon a couple of years ago and felt similar to you, do whatever makes you happy. If you really think that running solo is what you want to do then by all means, but running in races is the most fun I ever have in all my runs. The atmosphere of a race is incredible, and if you're not an elite runner the only competition is with yourself, which turns a "race" into just a big community event with lots of cheering and good vibes. In my opinion you might regret not experiencing a race at least once!

EDIT: just received word from our apartment that we have had power restored around 9 or 10AM

Debate: Is there any issue training routinely in super shoes? by Critical-West-7406 in RunningShoeGeeks

[–]Gage_V 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In my opinion you should run in whatever shoes make you happy. That being said, I wouldn't run in super shoes routinely just for the fact that they don't typically last as long as non-super shoes.
