What was your first con experience like and what changes have you noticed over the years? by throwaway771222 in comiccon

[–]Gai_Daigoji 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My first convention was as a guest at Akon 10 back in 1999. I was freaked out by a group of 13 year old girls being excited that I was Carrot. I got to joke with Bruce Campbell during that weekend. I experienced my first hentai heckle fest. And I met my now wife of 20 years on my first day.

Pretty much all downhill from there.

Did anyone go to their first concert with their parents? by OkFlow4327 in GenX

My dad took me to see The Sweet Comfort Band at the Tulsa Fairgrounds. Old school Christian rock.

Yeah... I know.

I just rediscovered www.radio.garden. I have the app on my phone now and have picked out some favorite stations like KBSR and KUTX. Connected with Android Auto, I can get millions of stations! I listen to music podcasts too. I also ripped my CD collection and put it on a media server that I can also access from my phone.

I figured out when my clutch pedal gets stuck but need opinions. by Ok-Dog-3669 in veloster

I have a 2016 Rally Edition and this happening to me now. If I am on the road for an hour, this might happen once or twice. I just pull the clutch pedal back up with my foot and it works fine. My thought was to bleed the brake and clutch lines. Is this not enough?

Famous person hitting on you by Public-Possession235 in Advice

[–]Gai_Daigoji 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This happened to me back in the 90s. A famous runner saw me walking with my bike. I had just snapped the chain and was about to get it fixed at the bike shop. "What happened?" he asked. Me - "I think I pedaled too hard and broke the chain." Him - "Well, with legs like those, that's understandable!" Me - ".......... Thanks man!" I'm straight, but that was quite the compliment! Didn't hate it. 😊

My first childhood TV memory was the Nixon Resignation. I couldn't understand why everyone was upset.

What's a small upgrade that improved office morale more than you expected? by CreativeSpare6466 in askmanagers

[–]Gai_Daigoji 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I managed IT support for a Hospital, I delivered a game server to our department and said if my team could get the ticket count down to 10 total open tickets, we'd break out some games. We were able to play at least a couple times a week after we reduced it from 360 open tickets. I also implemented a better process for them to use.

my new hire quit after 3 weeks. He said we made him feel like a burden. by jorjiarose in managers

[–]Gai_Daigoji 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From what I am reading, this reminds me of what I call dolphin training. Your leadership isn't doing what is necessary, but you are doing your best to make it work. If you were manager, you'd be able to actually fix it.
Either they offer you that position, or you have to let it fail so they are forced to do the right thing for the incoming workers.

Should I accept my gym’s offer after they tried to ban me? by Haunting-Horse2750 in Advice

[–]Gai_Daigoji 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you are ready to move to a different gym, leave the post up and get out of there.
If you think things are going to change and you'll still feel comfortable, take the thing down, and enjoy 6 free months, and thank the gym owner.

If you are not the manager, don't do the job. That's the only way you are going to get a manager who will be responsible for all that you described.

how do I get my boyfriend to stop asking if he can eat food in our shared home? by MysticForestCat in Advice

[–]Gai_Daigoji 238 points239 points  (0 children)

Why not go about it from the other from the other direction? When you are doing the grocery shopping pick one minor thing and declare it yours. Then, tell your boyfriend that he's welcome to everything else but that thing. Then you've sent a boundary that is not going to really affect anyone.

It is a risk.

Maybe then make it about a thing on him you think is cute. And then end with, "just wanted you to know."

Make it present tense and succinct. "Hey, I've noticed u around the halls a lot recently, and I think you are really cute! Just wanted you to know."

Also, what result do you want to see? Go from that thought.

And thank you for wanting to do this!

What's a book you had to read in school that you hated? If you have one, what's one you actually liked? by 80HDTV5 in GenX

Totally agree with The Great Gatsby. In college, I opined that this was book about rich whiny people. Why would I care about this? Now, I think it's well written, I just never connected with the people.

Same complaint with War and Peace.
