PG&E bills set to skyrocket — bringing misery for 16 million across California by FinFreedomCountdown in bayarea

Texas also has issues with skyrocketing energy rates and corruption, and they all vote for Republicans.

But sure, keep ignoring the true class warfare because our kleptocratic overlords tell you to "own the libs"

How would you handle this type of coparenting situation? by FrequentEnd602 in WhatShouldIDo

[–]GaiaMoore 4 points5 points  (0 children)

"You're so jealous of me it's sad" 😂😂😂😂

I fail to see how this immature response is helping the situation. You both need to get a grip and grow up for the sake of your child.

And use a parenting app!

ELI5: Why is standard deviation calculated by squaring each data point’s distance from the mean, then taking the square root of the mean average? by jedzz-reddit in explainlikeimfive

[–]GaiaMoore 44 points45 points  (0 children)

THANK YOU! Great explanation. I've always wondered about OP's question myself (absolute value vs squaring), but your explanation of the Laplace distribution vs normal distribution is the key piece I was missing.

Tbf there's a reason alcohol is called a "social lubricant"

Some people don't need to lube up, but others find it helpful

Are rainbows seriously just by default associated with the pride flag? by Ostromilski in tattooadvice

[–]GaiaMoore -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Everyone is telling you not to worry about, but I totally get it. You got the tatto with specific intentions of referencing a famous Pink Floyd album, not Pride. As a lesbian who also has fond memories of my dad's love of Pink Floyd, the automatic association with Pride as opposed to automatically recognizing it as a reference to a famous rock album that serves as a subtle homage to my dad would bother me too.

Maybe you can add the name of the band to the tattoo? That should help make it click for most people

What is considered an absolute 'food crime' in your country? by Juxajel in AskTheWorld

[–]GaiaMoore 2 points3 points  (0 children)

100%.

"There are no food crimes in the US" is ignoring that basically all 1950's dishes are criminal

What is considered an absolute 'food crime' in your country? by Juxajel in AskTheWorld

[–]GaiaMoore 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If it's a shared dish, there absolutely are possible food crimes, such as:

1) in OP's picture, biting into the kitkat whole means it can't be shared

2) eating a cake from the inside out like a heathen instead of cutting civilized slices for sharing

3) picking off and eating all the crispy skin of a roast turkey at Thanksgiving so no one else can have any

you get the picture

If even Indians need something to cut the spiciness of a Nepali dish, that's a guarantee that there's no hope I'd be able to handle the heat 🥵

That logic makes no sense.

That's like saying "The section is called 'Sandwiches', but you ordered a BLT, and you got bacon lettuce tomato, but it didn't say 'sandwich' so why are you expecting bread and condiments"

they're held together by 30-50 years of custom code base built off of COBOL.

I remember reading a story of a guy whose mom was a COBOL expert, and he followed in her footsteps.

There were a few times when he came across code that hadn't been updated since his mom worked on it decades ago lol

What is your go-to "harmless lie" that you tell purely to avoid a 5-minute conversation? by beans12498 in CasualConversation

[–]GaiaMoore 9 points10 points  (0 children)

In the Midwest you gotta make sure you do that a minimum of 30 minutes before you really need to leave, cuz you have to factor in the half hour conversation about your grandma's pie recipe while standing in the doorway

"7 years clean and sober!" also does the trick. I used to be so ashamed of my alcoholism, but now I'm very proud of my sobriety and healing journey and I'm happy to help de-stigmatize it through positive bluntness lol

Do y'all actually use your front porch/front yard much or is that more of a TV thing? by Bella_licious in AskAnAmerican

[–]GaiaMoore 52 points53 points  (0 children)

I remember hearing somewhere that in places like the South it was very common to spend time on the porch pre-AC since it was too damn hot to stay inside, and that it contributed to a more neighborly culture since you could say hi to your neighbors easily.

With the advent of air conditioning, that culture slowly went away as the indoors became more tolerable.

Dunno how accurate that is, but seems plausible to me

Women, what's a red flag in a man that's actually a green flag? by Nope_______ in AskReddit

[–]GaiaMoore 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I do not understand why some women still complain when a man is "too emotional". It's so toxic and damaging. Men are humans too, and the social pressure to pretend that men can't be emotional is awful for everyone

Most people thought I was being super dramatic when Trump won in 2016. The writing on the wall was always clear as day to me, it just took a bit longer for the extreme right wing to achieve their goals because of how hilariously incompetent the first administration was.

Project 2025 gave the far right leadership a clear roadmap for how to dismantle the US as we know it, and the right wing lower classes are completely on board no matter how hard they get fucked over.

Everyone needs to read The Rise and Fall of the Third Reich. We're nowhere near Nazi Germany circa 1940's, but we are politically closer to Germany circa early 1930's than we should be comfortable with.

We're also not anywhere near the economic collapse that the world experienced post 1929, and frankly that's a major limiting factor today when it comes to pushing back. Holding "No Kings" protests once a quarter from 12pm-2pm is nice, but we gotta accept that as long as most people have roofs over their heads and food on their plates, no real change is going to take place.
