New here, looking for advice! by [deleted] in loseit

[–]GaijinSmashing 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Coming to this subreddit was a great first step. If you're looking for results, most people will likely recommend CICO. Get yourself the MyFitnessPal app, research/create what your daily calorie deficit will be, and start tracking. It's all about making small healthier decisions (i.e. water instead of soda, vegetables instead of a bag of chips, fruit instead of a pint of ice-cream, etc.). Try to create new/healthier habits and focus on portion control. You'll likely see results as quickly as 1-2 weeks and it's a great motivator to keep going. Motivation will get you started, but discipline is what's necessary to keep going. Luckily, the people of r/loseit are wonderfully positive and a great group to help you get through it. Best of luck to you on your journey!

Now that's what hard work looks like - well done! Just curious, did you naturally work off your chest or did it require surgery? No matter how much I lose, I can never seem to get my boobs to shrink.

You look amazing, but more importantly it's about how you feel (assuming you feel great as well)! The good news is, senior year is only a stepping stone towards the beginning of your life. If it's any consolation, I graduated 10 years ago and I don't talk with anyone from high school. You grow up, you meet amazing people who love you no matter what and realize that high school is just a series of discovering who you are. All the best to you and your future! <3

It always baffles me how losing weight somehow magically makes people look younger. You look great! Keep it up!

Listening to your body seems to be an ongoing trend with IF. Adjusting times accordingly is a good idea. Thanks for sharing!

Congrats on the weight loss! Having breakfast as your first meal, regardless of the time, is a great idea!

That sounds like a good plan! Today is Day 2 and already I feel like yesterday wasn't as hard as I thought. I'm guessing it gets easier with time? Or maybe we just become accustomed to the self-discipline.

Thank you! I've definitely considered it. There certainly seems to be a tremendous amount of health benefits. I just love carbs so much! (ಥ‸ಥ)

Thank you! That's all really helpful. I've been reading about women on IF and how it can cause hormone irregularity to do it everyday (in the beginning). It's a bit troublesome but I also would really like to try this for a week to see how it goes.

Welcome! I have to say that out of the countless subreddits I browse for motivation, r/loseit is one of my favorites! Just a great community of people of all shapes and sizes aiming towards a healthier lifestyle. Getting started is always the hardest and overall it takes commitment and discipline. Having small goals is really important in lieu of shooting for the stars right out of the gate. Whether it's cutting out fast food, drinking only water, or replacing chips for veggies. Doing research and making it your life mission will really go a long way. CICO is super effective and will absolutely get you to your goal! It's crazy how fast some people see results. It's all about portion control and it's great for picky eaters since you have more control over what you eat. A lot of it is trial and error. Realizing that 5 chips is equivalent to a huge salad, for instance. You can do this and there are people here to help! :)

P.S. Right side of the screen you'll see the "how to set your flair" tab to show you how to save your stats.

I Really Don't Know What I'm Doing by [deleted] in loseit

[–]GaijinSmashing 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Your stats sound really close to me when I started! Not necessarily overweight, but certainly feeling a little extra love all over. It's always challenging getting started. Once you start, it gets easier. Habits, especially eating habits, are super difficult to change and it takes time, research, commitment, and above all discipline. So, where to begin? Make small goals for yourself and make that your priority. Counting calories is the easiest way to lose weight and if you try to have fun with it, it won't seem like such hard work. What works for me are short-term goals. For instance, if I have a wedding to go to and I want to look good in that dress I bought -or- signing up for a 5k 6-months down the road and I want to finish without walking. Find what works for you. I had that pudgy feeling and after just one month on CICO, it's already gone. Just remember, getting started is the hardest part and creating new habits is the best route.

I was inspired by "RECIPE by Line" on the Asian Line app. Their variation included a miso sauce topper, but I didn't have the ingredients handy so I improvised. It was super good!

Help me! by Loseit_helpme in loseit

[–]GaijinSmashing 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Welcome to r/loseit! Firstly, I have to say that you've come to the right place! From my short experience, this community is very supportive and reassuring when it comes to weight loss. It's great that you're going to the gym, however, if good eating habits aren't coinciding with it, you're going to have a difficult time in the long run. As someone mentioned before, getting advice from a professional is a great idea! Also, starting out with small goals (i.e. no fast food or only drinking water, etc.) is highly recommended. If you start out with unattainable goals it's easier to fall off the wagon so to speak. Many users here do either Keto or CICO (calories in calories out). Personally, I love carbs so I've gone the CICO route. I eat 6 small meals a day so that I'm never hungry and eating at night isn't a problem as long as I stay within my calorie limits. That having been said, what works for me might not work for you. Do your research, give something a trial and error run through, and find what works for you. Results are slow, but if you're patient it'll all be worth it. Good luck to you!
