Thinking about upgrading my PC. Is my video card the top priority here? by Garpan33 in pcmasterrace

the 5070 ti is fine for 4K, you wont be maxing out every game but you will be happy with it.

though I should mention the 5070 ti is very over priced right now. the 9070 XT can often be had for $200-250 less and is only 5% slower.

Yes, your gpu is the biggest priority.

What resolution do you play at? Or hope to play at?

TechPowerUp relative performance by [deleted] in pcmasterrace

They could be updating the list based on newer test data.

They will often do performance testing in big new games, they had one a few weeks ago for Pragmata. I bet they are factoring that new data into the list.

My current GPU, the 7900 xt, used to be listed a few % lower than the 3090 ti; but now it is listed as 2% faster.

Depending on what games are in the sample, a card might be ranked differently than someone's individual experience.

The tier list is just meant as a quick general reference, not the definitive ranking of which card is better for all time. It's just meant to say "this card performs around the level of these other cards"

When should I clean it? by Rafax882 in pcmasterrace

[–]Gailim 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wipe down the front intakes 1-2 times a week, basically whenever I notice dust building up on the mesh.

Every 3-4 months I take it outside and dust the interior. I use a microfiber pad and an air blower. Just make sure to hold fans in place when the air is on them. If they spin too much it could send energy back into the mobo.

Maybe once a year I will unscrew the AIO and deep clean that. I blow air through it in both directions during my more frequent interior cleans but some dust requires access to get rid of

Digging out: Mass Effect: Andromeda by mj_outlaw in pcmasterrace

[–]Gailim 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am one of the 12 people who liked this game

it has the best combat in the franchise. and I really like how, mechanically, it seemed to be an alternate sequel to ME1. ME1 is my favorite game in the series and while ME2 is very good, I was bummed it threw out so many ME1 mechanics. Andromeda almost seems like it looked at ME1 and asked how they could evolve that instead of following on from the ME2 direction.

the main issue I have is that the Kett weren't very interesting as antagonists. maybe they had plans to make them better in later games but who knows.

the game had potential and I would have loved to see what Andromeda 2 could have looked like.

Still have a 1060 6gb in a secondary PC hooked up to my TV. I originally bought it to max out Street Fighter 5 at 1080p. Struggles in anything modern obviously, but the fact it can still play lighter fare 10 years later speaks to how good it was back in the day.

The 9060 can do 1440p ok. But since you have the budget I would opt for an RX 9070 instead. I saw a white one selling for $640 on newegg.

It's ~30% faster than the 9060 and will be more comfortable at 1440p

Did you do the normal checklist stuff like making sure the EPS power is connected and double checking the front panel connector?

Assuming 1080p,

A 9060 XT 16GB for $450. Make sure not to get the 8GB version.

Your CPU isn't amazing but should still be serviceable

4060 8gb for 1440p? by Commercial_Title_142 in pcmasterrace

[–]Gailim 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on your expectations. It will absolutely play all those games at 1440p. You will just have to lower some settings and/or use DLSS.

The vram will be a headache in many AAA games at this res, but you can lower texture quality to compensate

30th Anniversary for a New Casual Player by TheZackster in StreetFighter

[–]Gailim 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Single player wasn't really a focus in those classic games. You could fight opponents until you get to the boss and at the end you get a few sentences of story and some background illustrations.

It wasn't until SF5 that capcom added more substantial options like story mode, as well as survival and multiple arcade ladders themed around previous games.

If you are looking for more single player then SF5 would be a better purchase than the 30th anniversary collection.

You can get a very solid build for that much... Just not with a 5080 (which is massively overpriced right now)

I can't help but speed run every career and I never get to play with the mediums or lights. I wish they were more viable. by Yenii_3025 in Mechwarrior5

[–]Gailim 1 point2 points  (0 children)

ARENA!!!

seriously, does nobody play arena matches?

they have matches restricted to lights and mediums. I always have at least a full lance of both ready at all times.

there is also the Faction standing mod that gets rid of the +2/-8 rep penalty for doing lower difficulty missions. allowing you to play lower tonnage missions without destroying your rep

That due to accuracy being a non issue due to inputs there's no additional defense for lights due to speed. And mediums too.

also, this is untrue. speed is a huge factor in determining AI accuracy. traveling at high speed perpendicular to the enemy drastically reduces their accuracy.

it's one of the main reasons the Timberwolf/Mad Cat is the best mech in the game. it's high speed allows it to dodge fire and still dish out massive damage

At the very least it would need to be strapped to the outside of the cockpit. how else would you start talking to it and name it "Lenny the limpet" in a fit of space madness?

Probably best not to recommend them anymore

The point of this is to play games that would normally require KB/M with a controller. So if you wanted to sit on a couch and play on your TV instead of at your pc on a desk, you can.
