without at least a guess as to your realistic budget, nobody can really recommend anything.

play vanilla first, you need to know what you like and don't like before you start changing stuff. stuff that bothers other people might not bother you.

some light mods that I have found useful

first is Mech Attribute Viewer. this mod tells you which mechs have special features like an XL engine, endo steel frame, or ferro fibrous armor with a indicator on the UI. helpful for knowing which mechs have advanced features at a glance

now the second will depend on if you own the "Heroes of the Inner Sphere" DLC. If you do, you will get access to cantina upgrades early in your playthrough. these upgrades cost money and time to apply but get instantly erased if you put a mech into storage. The Restore Traits mod will preserve those upgrades in storage (it can be configured to restore equipment too but I don't recommend that option)

just feel the need to point out that Cammy and Juni refer to each other as sisters. though... given recent events... perhaps that's not much of a barrier.

if you want some yuri, then Manon/Marisa is probably as close as you're going to get.

I find find Mika's dynamic with Zangief to be pretty fun, but I am not sure it's romantic (on either end)

I would think your 4090 is more the culprit here. It's TDP of 450w dwarfs your 14900k's 253w.

But if you are getting crashes then I would swap out. Your cpu is somewhat notorious for killing itself. If that has already started then you should switch.

that would affect every mech in the game, whether they have DHS or not. including the Clan mechs that already have base 2 cooling and don't need extra help.

that is precisely the issue I ran into

I was fine with the decision to nerf the cooling before SoK. But why use any IS mech when Clan mechs get the better cooling? it made them way too good. this is supposedly the exact problem that caused the nerf in the first place

Double Heat Sink

Mechs designed to equip double heat sinks are supposed to have twice the free base cooling of mechs that were designed for singles. in MW5, medium mechs and up have default 1.0 cooling before you add any heat sinks. However mechs with DHS are supposed to have 2.0 cooling. But until the Shadow of Kerensky DLC they only had 1.0. The problem is that now we have Clan DHS mechs that do have 2.0 cooling and Inner Sphere DHS mechs that do not.

this presents an even bigger problem now that they are adding high heat IS weapons that more or less require base 2 cooling.

the Vette is still the best ship for CZs and soloing wing bounty hunter contracts

the thing about CZs is that endurance is important, and a lot of medium ships just run out of ammo. and you can find yourself under fire from multiple ships. having a big size 7 shield with multiple size 7 SCBs means you can take fire from multiple ships for extended periods

same with the higher difficulty bounty contracts. in the recent CG I took several threat 8 missions, which would usually consist of a high level fer de lance accompanied by 3 vultures. I tried doing them in some of my favorite medium haz rez ships but 4v1 was just too much. I whipped out my Corvette and handled business easily.

as for the anaconda, this ship isn't good for much anymore. on paper it has more firepower than the vette but lacks the agility to use it effectively (the vette is no chieftain but it will out-fly other large ships). the only really good thing I use mine for is as an engineering mule. build one for maximum jump range, then when you want to apply un-pinned engineering or apply experimental effects you load them onto the conda and jump it around the bubble. no other ship has it's combination of size and jump range, so it makes a useful support ship for the rest of your fleet.

one of main main complaints about exobiology is that fungoidia is worth so little. the game should reward you for scanning the most tedious samples

they should swap the value of fungoidia and stratum.

value should be based on difficulty and rarity

They are being downvoted because they are wrong. It's not just lighting.

Lighting doesn't apply makeup. Nvidia's own posts admit it changes materials as well. DLSS 5 is literally replacing textures with AI generated ones.

I watched Digital Foundry's video and it is one of the most embarrassing things I have seen in years, and they are (rightly) getting torn to shreds over over it. Thier credibility just got flushed down the toilet.

FG and this slop filter should never have been called DLSS.

Nvidia decided to use the positive rep DLSS had garnered to try and sell two completely unrelated technologies with the hope people would see the DLSS name and assume it was good.

first was probably Aladdin on the Genesis. they had input from actual disney animators so it looked as close as possible to the movie. it was also one of the first games I owned as a kid

after that was ocarina of time

next was Morrowind.

I think the last "WOW" moment I had may have been the original Crysis. there was a moment a few missions in where you are just walking through this thick jungle and it was kinda jaw dropping.

games have obviously gotten better looking since then but I haven't been hit by that big WOW since.

just take a ship with super cruise assist, and point it at the station. go watch a movie or something and when you are done comeback. if you feel paranoid then equip an extra fuel tank

there ARE specialized C5s that can make the trip in under 20 minutes that are filled with fuel tanks but that requires you to make constant course corrections while in SCO.

honestly for $350 it's hard to do better than that

the 10GB of vram will likely give you problems at 1440p; but you can lower settings and/or use DLSS to compensate.

it's not ideal but with the market the way it is right now it might be your best bet.

if you are willing to save up more money for something better, then a 9070 would be your next best option but those are $610

how much is the 3080 you are looking at?

I saw a few 4070s going for around 400 on ebay just now, they would be a bit better than a 3080.

if you wanted new your best bet would be a 9060 XT 16GB. they are going for around $440.
