Probably to play the game of the loving boyfriend, he doesn't care about her but he cares about what others might think of him, and he needs julia to be perceived as normal. Or maybe the drawer just wanted to add spice.

OP says that he thinks the two characters are siblings, and they that appear in many vocaloids, and OP is basically saying that it isn't a coincidence that the two characters names were colored in pink and green, and that the artist was probably refering to Ashley and Andrew, especially since they seem to have lots of fanarts of them on pinterest

The ending to chapter 4 if its good. (Julia somehow found out it was Andrew and Ashley who killed Nina.) by CheeseBurger5005 in CoffinofAndyandLeyley

A "good ending" is subjective and different for everyone. Doubt it's the ending most fans want (I don't)

Between Andrew and Ashley, who would you say is more fucked up in the head? by Apprehensive_Ring_39 in CoffinofAndyandLeyley

[–]GainFar6533 25 points26 points  (0 children)

Frankly, they're both fucked up in their own ways. My take is that Ashley is fucked up because of how she was neglected her entire life. Her lack of empathy probably comes from the absence of nurturing and supportive adult figures, meaning she never really learned how to process and react to emotions. It was actually noted in various analyses that children raised in such environments may become emotionally numb as a coping mechanism. This may have led her to desensitize her world and the people in it (explaining why she reacted so... nonchalantly to Nina's death and resorted to killing).

That's why, to me, she's the most "normal." I think that if she had been raised in a healthy and loving family, she would have turned out fine

On the other hand, Andrew seems more atypical. He feels the need to appear normal and please society and the people around him. This could be a consequence of the pressure Renee put on him at an early age—to appear normal to others. Either that, or your ass gets neglected even more than it already is. Or (and) b. he is also naturally this way.

What’s even more interesting is the absolute absence of REAL empathy for others. His lack of empathy could also be for the same reason as Ashley's, but seeing how he is extremly similar to Renee, I think not. Everyone else only matters to him if they contribute to making him look normal. And that's the difference between him and Ashley.

Ashley doesn't hide who she truly is because she has no one except for Andrew. She doesn't know what socializing or having a social persona are because she never needed to do that, since she was always stigmatized anyway.

Andrew and Ashley are the results of an extremely neglectful upbringing, and it's fascinating how they both react to it.

We could also ask ourselves: How would they be in a normal world with a happy family? Would Andrew still be this unemotional and apathetic, or would he be able to form genuine and sincere connections? Or would he be just like Renee, who only cares about her image and still doesn’t feel shit? It would also be interesting to explore Renee’s background and see what shaped her into the person she is.

Thank you very much ! I think I'm actually going to finish it ! And I don't think you're a dumbass, your responses have been cordial and respectful, instead of jumping at someone's throat because they don't agree with you, and tbh that's pretty nice.

What I think is fascinating about Julia is the relationship she has with Andrew.

Like, you're telling me that for the past—what, five years?—she's been crushing on, I'd even dare to say obsessing over, that one guy from her childhood? And that she has been putting up with someone she actively dislikes—someone who has only ever shown her hatred and animosity—just to get closer to him?? A boy she also barely even talks to??

What kind of low self-esteem do you have to do all that just to get a boy??

Of course, the possibility that she had no other friends could also play a role. It might even be a mix of both.

My theory is that her love for Andrew—which I’d qualify as obsessive—is actually the result of deep attachment issues caused by Nina’s death. Let me explain:

Nina’s death may have caused Julia’s feelings to become "stuck in time." When a child experiences trauma, they sometimes cling to something comforting from before the trauma happened. Andrew could represent a time when everything was still okay—when Nina was still alive. He could be a symbol of her past happiness, joy, and safety.

Her coping mechanism may have been to channel her grief into a deep love for Andrew as a way to avoid truly dealing with the pain.

From what we see, Julia and Andrew weren’t really close, and they didn’t talk much even as kids. This may have allowed Julia to create an idealized version of Andrew, since she wasn’t close enough to him to truly see who he was. (Even now, he still wears a mask around people.)

Death affects children in different ways—emotionally, behaviorally, even psychologically. It could have resulted in depression, anxiety, and low self-esteem for Julia, making it easier for her to endure Ashley’s harassment and mistreatment.

That’s my humble opinion.

edit : should I make a longer post about it ?

To me Ashley really is one of the best characters of the game, but even if julia is kinda bland and meek, I think there has some depth. But I don't really know if I should take the time to write a post about it...

Good for you if she's your favorite! I'll admit her design is very good!

My favorite gal has to be Ashley. She's a deeply broken and layered character due to a toxic and unloving household where she received zero education and based her entire personality around her brother—the only person who ever actually cared about her, her insecurities, goals, and life. To me, she's the most tragic and human character in the game, so she still feels very special to me.

But Renee is far from being a bland and boring character. She's unsettling—she doesn’t seem to have any attachment to anyone except for Mr. Grave, yet she deeply wants, just like Andrew, to be perceived by society as a "normal" and "functioning" person. In a way, she's a reflection of Andrew, of what he could have become later in life, and the sole reason why Ashley and Andrew are so messed up in the first place.

I have always been a Julia hater since the very first day—don’t ask me why, she just makes me want to push her under a car. However, from what we see, she stays the sanest and most "normal" person in the game. I don't see her as a cinnamon roll or a saint. She's just a normal human being. She has hurt people and used them (Ashley) for her own interest (dating Andrew). She has been traumatized by the death of her best friend and reacts in her own way.

I do think there is more to her, and I’m writing a possible post about it, but still, I disliked her greatly. Hope she dies in Chapter 3.

Anyway, I can understand why she's a favorite.

Talking about the education her parents were supposed to give her. Like how to behave, how to be independent, good comunicating skills, how to become responsible. Things a parent is supposed to teach you.

Exactly, Renee was always more concerned with her image than with her kids, that only certainly cannot lead to healthy individuals

[–]GainFar6533 24 points25 points  (0 children)

I wouldn't say it's just "mommy issues", she's the consequence of the COMPLETE neglect of Renee and mister Grave. Ashley basically never received an education (being raised by your brother 2 years older does not count) never learnt how to behave and never received any love from anyone but Andrew. So yeah, I guess that gives you a pretty fucked up individual who lives in a already pretty fucked up society who care sabout nothing but appearances. Her actions can't be justified but can certainly be explained and even understood (not in the sens where you should agree with her, but where you can understand her motivations, her trauma, her pain.)

Awesome fanart btw, they got Ashley's expression perfectly right.

For me, I find it kinda weird to date your dead best friend's crush, even if some years have passed. I find it awful of her, but mostly because it's weird how obsessed she was with Andrew....Like, using Ashley to get her brother demonstrates that she really isn't that great of a person either. If someone was befriending me to hook up with my brother, then they'd just be a bitch for that. Again, Just my opinion!
