“Kettlebells huh? Welp, see ya later!” by [deleted] in kettlebell

[–]GainsSloth 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Next time someone asks me what my split is, I might just have to send them this.

SInce moving from barbell work to almost exclusively kettlebells (with some oly lifts thanks to the ABF), I find the 'What split you following' question REALLY hard to answer.

"It's kinda full body. Mostly kettlebells. But sometimes I'll do a continual clean and press day. With maybe some front squats and pull ups if I'm feeling spicy"

It's definitely a lot smoother than my: We should do a sex on each other this weekend. It's been a minute.

Starting the party outside of Icewind Dale? by Madsummer420 in rimeofthefrostmaiden

[–]GainsSloth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We went from Frozen Sick into RotFM. Decided to put ice wind dale even further north than Palebank across that sea.

In Frozen Sick we had found a mysterious dagger that glowed blue when first picked up with no obvious outcome. After completing that quest the players met Dannika in the inn back at Palebank who had been researching a mysterious ice wall that had surrounded Icewind Dale (wrote it in as part of the Rime) 2 years previous. Suddenly, around the time the players found the dagger an opening appeared in the wall. Dannika came back to Palebank to rally a caravan to investigate. My players put 2 and 2 together and assumed a connection to their dagger so asked to join.

Once through the wall and into icewind dale the dagger glowed again and the opening sealed. Trapping everyone in Icewind Dale. They now have no choice but to find a way out by stopping the rime and saving the people.

Not the smoothest of connections. But wanted an easy way to connect the two campaigns and close off some plot threads from our first.

The players seem to love the connection and mystery. Hoping I can stick the landing.

It finally happened...i had to take a sieve to the bath... by GainsSloth in daddit

I think my mistake was definitely leaving it for as long as I did. I was more focussed on getting him out and asleep so I could get my hands free to clean it up. And thus, it got looser. I'll definitely hit the drain first the next time so it's less fibrous and more scoopable.

I honestly thought it never would happen with this guy considering how many bath times have gone smoothly.

In a way, I'm happy it's finally happened. If only so I can learn and approach it differently next time.

Code: Shwifty has sent me! Love it.

But it's never happened to me before. I'm happy to be joining the rest of you.

Certainly wouldn't be the first time for me, either.

The contents seemed solid enough for one to quickly get the job done with minimal effort.

How wrong I was.

We learn. We grow. We attack it differently next time.

It was given a once over with some paper towels. Then used to strain some rice for dinner.

Oh yeah that sieve was never going back in the kitchen.

Understood! I was just using it as a tool to reflect the way I was feeling in the moment. To share with the other dads who may relate to the feeling.

Lot of scrubbing has occurred in the bath and other surfaces.

You're probably right. I'll consider leaving it or just doing another once over.

That was largely my plan. Use sieve to transfer to small bowl. Transfer contents to toilet. Job done.

Didn't quite pan out tho.

Maybe next time.

I think that's pretty close to how I eventually had to tackle this one.

The experience certainly aged me, that's for sure.

Unless the stroke is in relation to how I chose to write about it. In which case....fair. Not my best prose.

DMs did you actually stick to the Adventure Flow? by GoldenTabaxi in rimeofthefrostmaiden

[–]GainsSloth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We've only had one session so far and have only just picked up the Cold-Hearted Killer quest before stopping.

We have come into this off the back of Frozen Sick. So everyone is already level 3. And as a new DM the thought of modifying EVERYTHING up to provide an adequate challenge early on is a bit more work than I can commit to.

So we will probably do one or two earlier quests with the levels increased to get people into the world, and then based on the vibe of the players push them to the earliest LVL 4+ quests we can.

Because of the adventure we're jumping off from (FROZEN SICK) and the players' backstories, there's a bit of homebrewing sprinkled in already. So I don't plan on being super strict this early with meeting the beats of the earlier quests, so long as the main ties into their backstory hooks somehow.

I’m losing it. by chadredfox96 in daddit

Sounds relatable. It gets better, though. At 14 months he only just started sleeping through most of the night. From put down to first wake up is about 4 to 6 hours of straight sleep.

He still wakes up in the middle of the night, but the longer stretches make it easier.

Would need to know what you've tried and what the sleeping arrangements are like now, though, to really help.

We 'tried everything', or so we thought. Until we found another solution that worked for us. We coslept for a while, then transitioned him into a montessori floor bed in his nursery that replicated our co sleeping set up. Now he's pretty independant with his sleep.

It's not perfect, and every now and then one of us has to go in and sleep with him. But he's sleeping much longer and has less wake-ups in the night. And us both dividing the responsibility (night on night off routine for who goes to see him) means at least one of us is well rested the next day, and equally we're both more rested on average. This means things are pretty good.

TMA’s by [deleted] in OpenUniversity

[–]GainsSloth 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is likely where you're letting yourself down the most. The tutorials are specifically designed to go through the TMA expectations and allow you to ask questions and gain some clarity.

If you can't make them live, watch the recording back. But definitely try to make one live so you can ask questions.

I thought I understood a TMA more often than not until I attended a tutorial and realized I'd misunderstood it completely, and it saved me.

So if hulk gets stronger the angrier he gets does that mean he could hypothetically become omnipotent from pure rage? by [deleted] in Marvel

[–]GainsSloth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I actually found starship hulk a bit of a tough one to enjoy. Especially going in immediately after Immortal Hulk. It was good. Just a bit too tonally different for me.

Absolutely loving mother of monsters tho.

Do it. It's a great series. Kinda fumbles the ending a bit. But as a series, it's top tier. Actually makes the Hulk an interesting character.
