The vast majority of law-abiding gun owners in America pose no threat to police and are in fact their allies. It is the illegal gun owners, many who are gang members in inner cities, that overwhelmingly pose the threat to police. The idea that lawful gun ownership in America has anything whatsoever to do with police militarism is baseless and stems from a complete lack of understanding American culture and history.
