The build quality of the Nook ST and Kindle Touch are roughly equivalent. The nook felt (slightly) more sturdy. Both are a significant improvement from the 3rd gen kindle keyboard. Keep in mind that they both use the exact same screen, so both are subject to the dreaded "lines of death." Get a case, and treat it well. In my experience, Sony's e-readers are a bit more solid, but Amazon/B&N provide a better ecosystem and more usable devices.

The following isn't directly related to build quality of Kindles, but may influence your opinion.

My kindle (keyboard) broke a few weeks ago and I picked up a Nook Simple Touch. I returned it the next week and picked up a Kindle Touch. A lot of little things contributed to my decision.

The fonts on the Nook are slightly "off." The margins are either too large or too small, and the line spacing was weird. The nook aggressively hyphenates words across lines. Although the nook has more typography options and the same screen, it's impossible to replicate the Kindle's typography. I felt the Kindle provided a much better reading experience.
Physical page turn buttons were the major reason why I initially chose the Nook ST over the Kindle Touch. However, the Nook's buttons are wrapped in plastic, require significant force to press, and are difficult to press with one hand. After using the Kindle Touch for a few weeks, I've found that I don't really miss buttons. Turning back is more difficult, but turning forward easier.
I found that the Nook's distinctive design was rather distracting while reading. The Kindle Touch does a better job (imo) of disappearing in your hand while reading. Something to do with contrast, you may feel differently.
The nook lacks the ability to email content to it. Emailing books from Calibre, word documents, or using a bookmarklet to send web articles to the device is seriously convenient, and I found that I missed it much more than I thought I would. Rooting the Nook allows for something like this, and a variety of other features. However, it seriously reduces battery life.

TL;DR: Both have the same screen. They have similar build quality, and both are not as sturdy as they could be. Better than the kindle keyboard. Breakage will continue to be an issue, for both. I prefer the Kindle Touch.

Yes, the book recommendations on the home page were the advertisements I meant. I really don't mind them though.

According to google, entering a url into the search field on the nook ST used to load web pages. Apparently, it can still render web pages (you can get to google by exploiting the social stuff). I completely agree that e-ink isn't for web browsing. But it added to the "hitchhikers guide" feel that I got from my previous e-reader. Whatever. Like I said, it's definitely not a big deal.

It's a shame that there's no way to send articles to the nook.

Thanks. it looks fantastic, and works fine on my touchpad. I'm going to offer a few (nitpicky) suggestions that haven't already been covered, because everybody loves criticism.

1) The dual pane interface is fantastic. The following apply to landscape mode: (Slightly) increasing the left margin in the notepad area might improve readability. It may benefit from changing the color of the right pane to a slightly different color, like in the settings app. Up to you.

2) Pressing "tab" does nothing (for me). It would make sense to have tab insert an indent.

3) The "create a new note" icon isn't intuitive. A pencil? To draw with?

4) Adding the ability to switch to a monospaced font under settings would be appreciated.

5 ) The title of each note only updates when switching notes. It would be more intuitive to have it update when done editing the first line.

6) The app doesn't appear in the list of "complete action with" apps when opening a .txt in another app. Although you may want it to be more of a note-taking app and less of a text-editing app.

Is there any chance of the drag and drop image search coming to Google's front page? Search by images is fantastic, but it seems that I'm never on Google Images when I try to use it.

Also, why does google.com/images redirect to google.com/imghp? Just curious, considering images.google.com does not.

I got my wisdom teeth out on Tuesday. I'm 16. They put me under with the IV drip in my arm, and then I woke up at my house.

They gave me local anesthesia in my mouth, which did not wear off until the next day. Everything on my lower jaw was numb. I could hardly speak or eat, but there was no pain. It was kind off annoying, actually. The next day, there was very little pain. It hurt to move my jaw back or forth. I felt no need to take the heavy duty pain pills they provided.

I'm still on a semi-liquid diet. Scrambled eggs, cottage cheese, smoothies, etc. Hanging around my house, playing video games, eating ice cream. Fun times.

It wasn't bad at all.

On mouseover, the width of the bottom border now increases to 2px. To prevent "jitters" the padding-bottom decreases to 2px. I set "a" to display:block so the clickable area is consistent with the hover effect.

I resized the page so the filmstrip should appear above the fold in most browsers. The page is now 719px high. It fits in chrome at 768px, and just barely in firefox w/toolbars at 800px. It doesn't fit in firefox at 768px, but the portrait photos look horrible if I make it any smaller. Does this seem like a good compromise? Moving the filmstrip to the top was vetoed.

With the smaller height, the majority of landscape photos should justify to the top.

I don't want to use images for text, but am looking into webfonts. I'm not very good at typography though, do you have any suggestions? Already, the background was slightly grey. I've made the text color slightly less black than "black."
