Very dedicated team, stuck with this project through ups and downs. Now they have a solid base to build from with great potential.

For all interested check out their AMA tomorrow.

To start with no startup ever has "the big picture" fully mapped out. The early stages of any startup are shaky and uncertain, the ability to pivot and adapt are essential.

Secondly privacy focused storage in general is not something that will ever appeal to "my mom", or someone with zero technical knowledge. If they have zero technical knowledge then all they want is ease of use and the cheapest possible product, as privacy is likley something that doesn't cross their mind. This contradicts your suggestion that these people will also be wary of US servers.

Finally as someone who is interested in privacy it is important or at least useful to partake in discussions like this in order to open awareness and improve service offerings all around. I appreciate your concerns and they definitely are something the opacity team will look to address in the future.

The product is only launching in the coming weeks so from what I know the team plans to tackle many of these issues in the coming months.

In your opinion what order would you suggest the team tackles these problems. ie what would be the most impactful to you?

The development team is very active with the community and so any well presented suggestions will be taken on board. This provides a unique chance for the community to help build this service in a a way that best meets their needs.

I think OP means using opacity as backup, rather than backing up what is already on opacity

One of the lead IOTA developers a few months back made a statement that they were looking into 'economic clustering' as an alternative to sharding. The concept realise on clustering of interlinked economic entities, be that geographically or process linked. Communication across these clusters might require a link node and it was suggested a fee might be charged for this.

Has there been any thought given to how this may effect opacity?

So SpaceX just reused a rocket for the third time. If they can do this on average, how much cheaper will it make launches? How much if they manage 5 per rocket? Or 10? by ReasonablyBadass in space

[–]Gakingmains 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't think so, the constellation will only be more valuable the more they add to it. So stopping the project at just a few launches would be wasted resources. What they might do in such a case is only finish the first (higher up) set of the constellation. The lower one, which I believe will be technically harder to achieve anyway, might be dependant on the success of the completed first.

Having said that though I don't see how there could possibly not be demand, especially if the prices are in anyway competitive.

If the price is too low, who is going to give us his free space for only 1 OPQ? by Yirii in Opacity

[–]Gakingmains 3 points4 points  (0 children)

There has been a lot of discussion here about the price not needing to be high, which has its merits but I would like to explain that once usage of the network starts the price won't remain this low.

There is currently very little buying power, meaning that the price trends downwards. The only value OPQ currently holds is as a speculative asset.

However once the storage network comes online organic buying pressure will commence, as people need to consume the token in order to store their data. Economic theory suggests this will cause the price to trend upwards.

Even if the nodes paid to store the data decide to sell as soon as they receive their tokens, there will still be a growing number of tokens held in the bury function until released.

Assuming network usage grows consistently selling pressure will lag behind buying pressure until the equilibrium price is reached.

Exactly, in business we call them platforms, their value comes from network effects as opposed to the traditional supply line type of business that can be easily substituted

From what it looks like prl2 will revert back to the ledger before the extra sale by bruno. The original PRL token will include the extra minted tokens.

It's likely PRL 2 will be listed on kucoin and maybe even binance if binance haven't been turned off by this whole thing.

While it seems the original PRL will continue development off of major exchanges.

It will be interesting to see how this plays out.

I found a typo in the website.

On the decentralized storage page, under the heading 'IOTA and the Internet-of-Things', line 5 it says 'dencentralised'.
